Colombian actress talks her ‘refusal’ to ‘assimilate’ to American values and culture
Yeah, her and every other foreigner.
Rachel Zegler, the woke actress who played the woke Hispanic Snow White for the 2025 live action Disney movie recently addressed the tremendous backlash she received for her performance in the film, finally concluding with this sentiment: “I refuse to assimilate for anybody else’s comfort.”
Oh, you don’t say.
An item at Page Six reports that Zegler is a proud Colombian, an identity that made her who she is today:
‘I grew up proud of being Colombian – eating the food, wearing the dresses, drinking the coffee, doing all the things that were so intrinsic to who I was as a kid and who I am as an adult….’
All that Colombian culture is great…for Colombia. And I don’t say that in a sarcastic way, but genuinely; I wouldn’t want the vibrancy, the playfulness, or the Latin-ness of it to go anywhere. In fact, if I ever visit Colombia, I hope, and would expect, to be able to experience the uniqueness of its culture.
But, part of that same Colombian culture is not having any American opportunity. Colombian culture includes massive influence from narco-terrorists, it’s a culture plagued by political corruption and unrest, and a culture steeped in Marxism. And, all those downsides of that culture prevent the opportunity and success and freedom that American culture affords.
American culture is the opposite. It is a land of freedom, and of prosperity, a land of the European diaspora, rooted in Christianity.
Sure, we don’t have the cuisine of Medellín, you won’t find anything like the Barranquilla Carnival, and there is no Night of the Candles—but we have our own culinary traditions, celebrations of an independence movement that had a ripple effect across the world, and an environment where social beginnings do not determine your future or what you can achieve.
American culture is prosperity, it is freedom, and it is opportunity. These things are distinct to America because it’s a one-of-a-kind place, a land manifestly blessed.
Or, that’s what American culture has historically been…until fairly recently. It’s being diluted, demeaned, and degraded, by people who assert that it’s nothing special, nothing unique, and nothing worth preserving. People like Betty Friedan…Howard Zinn…Barack Obama…and…Zegler. All first-generation Americans (with the probable exception of Obama) who decided they would “refuse” to “assimilate” to the American tradition because their foreign anti-American identities were so much better.
Whether through intention or not, they are erasing what makes America…America. It’s the inherent selfish nature of “I got mine,” from America, thanks to the opportunity she and the Americans before me have provided, but now I’m going to destroy what I can.
So Zegler doesn’t want to assimilate because she comes first—like every other foreigner living off the comforts and privileges America affords while actively working to destroy it.
