Can This Nation Be Saved?

How does America survive when its citizens belong to two divided camps that believe fundamentally incompatible things?

Over the last century, there has been a trend to establish “truth and reconciliation commissions” in countries emerging from periods of political terrorism, totalitarianism, or civil war.  The idea is to acknowledge the crimes and atrocities that past governments officially sanctioned and to recognize the harms inflicted upon their victims.  As is often the case when governments “disappear” citizens or throw them in gulags for their politically incorrect thoughts, it is the not knowing that haunts society.  Survivors bereft of answers are left with inconsolable anguish.  The commissions are often used as a first step toward healing grave national trauma.

It is no surprise that these commissions generally reflect the worldviews of the prevailing government that forms them.  Communist governments are quick to label past “right-wing” officials as “murderers” while memorializing their own murderers as “patriots,” “civil rights heroes,” or “noble revolutionaries.”  Politically correct governments in the West today often describe their countries’ founders and explorers as “racists,” “white supremacists,” “imperialists,” and perpetrators of “genocide.”  No doubt the people alive during these consequential periods of history would take exception to the way they are remembered, but descendants — particularly descendants in possession of political power — maintain at least a temporary monopoly over the historical record.

Although Democrat politicians and Antifa terrorists hysterically insist that Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers are “disappearing” foreign nationals present in the United States illegally, that is not the case.  But that lie — reinforced on Wikipedia, news blogs, and on cable news — is one example of an expanding collection of diametrically held beliefs deeply dividing the American people.

American citizens who are opposed to open borders and endless illegal immigration see ICE agents as performing critical tasks.  Those agents put their lives on the line every day in order to arrest illegal aliens — many of whom have been convicted or accused of serious crimes — and protect American citizens.  Democrat politicians, however, call ICE agents “slave catchers” and “Gestapo thugs.”  Antifa-affiliated groups dox officers, physically harass them, and even shoot at them.  Anarcho-communists explicitly call for “war against ICE.”  Deranged leftists stalk and assault Trump administration officials every day.  Half of America sees ICE officers and administration officials as selfless patriots who should be honored for their sacrifices.  The other half wishes them death.

Right now, The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, CNN, and MSNBC are all very upset that former FBI director Jim Comey has been indicted for false statements and obstruction of a federal proceeding.  Well known political pundits are all repeating some version of this statement: We have never had a situation in which a sitting president has so brazenly used the criminal justice system to go after his political adversaries.  This is the consensus opinion of those with institutional power, prestige, credentials, and fame.  Yet to ordinary Americans without such accolades, elite talking heads sound delusional, amnesiac, and maliciously deceptive.

How could people at the height of their professions possibly describe the indictment of Jim Comey as “unprecedented”?  Americans for the last ten years have witnessed abject weaponization of the Justice Department and Intelligence Community against Donald Trump, his associates, and his supporters.  Hillary Clinton’s inner circle and Barack Obama’s trusted lieutenants co-opted  the FBI and CIA in an effort to frame Donald Trump as a Russian spy, remove him from office, and perhaps even convict him for treason.  Jim Comey was instrumental in this nefarious plot.  As journalist Matt Taibbi said the other day, “think of the national security implications of implying that your own president is a spy for a foreign country. ... You can’t have an FBI director doing ... these sorts of manipulations and lying to Congress about it and getting away with it.”

Yet the Russia Collusion Hoax was only one part of a decade-long effort to destroy Trump and his MAGA movement.  Democrat saboteurs working for the U.S. military and CIA turned a normal conversation with the president of Ukraine into Trump’s first impeachment.  Then the FBI and DOJ labeled the January 6, 2021 protest against election fraud an “insurrection” — laying the grounds for Congress to pursue a truly unprecedented post-presidential impeachment.  For years, FBI director Chris Wray lied to Congress and the American people about the presence of federal law enforcement officers near the Capitol that day.  Only in 2025 have we now learned that nearly three hundred plainclothes FBI agents were on the ground during the protest, along with dozens of informants and an unknown number of other federal and local agents, all possibly stirring up mayhem.

Millions of American have long suspected that agitators created a “false flag” event on January 6 to help justify a subsequent prosecution of Trump and preclude his running for president once again in 2024, but those voices were censored on social media accounts for years.  Treating Trump and his supporters as “terrorists” became the order of the day for both Silicon Valley and the federal government.

FBI SWAT teams busted into the homes of ordinary families in predawn raids to make it clear to MAGA Americans that — unlike Antifa and Black Lives Matter members — conservatives enjoy no “privilege” to protest official authorities in the United States.  The Biden administration — arguably illegitimate since it secured election “victory” through blatant mail-in-ballot fraud — chose not to cool things down for the sake of the country.  Instead, Obama holdovers running Biden’s presidency prosecuted high-profile members of Trump’s team for spurious “crimes”; harassed conservative parents opposed to leftist teachers’ racial and sexual indoctrination of their children; and intimidated pro-life activists, Christians, and just about any group too closely aligned with Trump’s MAGA agenda.

Joe Biden called Trump a “criminal” and the “greatest threat to democracy” and labeled MAGA voters “violent extremists” and “domestic terrorists.”  His administration conspired with social media companies to censor Trump and conservatives, generally.  The Biden White House created several iterations of a “disinformation” board in order to justify Democrats’ continued ban on political dissent and conservative speech.  Lawfare specialists successfully disbarred Trump’s lawyers for simply defending their client’s interests.  Then Democrat lawyers orchestrated civil and criminal lawsuits against President Trump in half a dozen jurisdictions while working to remove him from the 2024 ballot in crucial battleground states.  And after years of Democrats calling President Trump a “Russian agent,” a “dictator,” a “Nazi,” a “fascist,” and every other kind of vile pejorative that might convince a delusional listener to believe that Trump had no right to live, at least two separate assassins tried to murder him last year — killing one civilian and wounding several others in the process.

At no time in American history has such a large-scale effort gone into utterly destroying a political candidate, his aides, and his voters.  Yet when the current DOJ decides enough is enough and that at least one of those anti-Trump conspirators should be prosecuted for perjury and obstruction, the mainstream media lose their collective mind.

We may not be emerging from the aftermath of a terrible civil war, but America is nonetheless desperately in need of a “truth and reconciliation commission.”  The problem is that we can’t agree about anything.  One side believes in God; the other side largely does not.  One side believes men can become women and that a “climate apocalypse” is about to kill us all; the other side refuses to play along with such fantastic delusions.  One side believes that government agents provide citizens with certain privileges; the other side knows that rights exist regardless of bureaucratic decree.

It may be impossible to reconcile a nation so divided about basic truths.  We must try.  Otherwise, the real trouble is just beginning.

Podcast thread for Sept 29

Some days are good, some days are bad. Take the good when you can.

Democrats Hate America and Americans, Hate Them Back

Remember all that talk Democrats have been spewing about “threats to democracy”? Turns out, Democrats were the threat all along.

That is, of course, not news to anyone with an IQ larger than their shoe size, but so many people in media and Congress are unburdened by that.

Honestly, these are horrible and bad people, not just because of the murder of Charlier Kirk and the reaction to it, nor the attempted murder of ICE agents (that ended up killing an illegal alien), but because of literally everything they do.

Can you think of a single things Democrats do that is not destructive to the country? Forget destructive, how about even neutral or indifferent? There isn’t any. From open borders to slicing up the genitals of children, the entire political left, with the possible exception of John Fetterman, is against everything the United States of America is about.

Look, not everyone is going to be a net plus to the country, but there isn’t anyone on the left who is not a total drag. The Governor of California is trying to get ICE agents and an advisor to the President murdered, the Mayor of Chicago is fighting harder than he does for anything other than his outdated New Edition hairdo, to keep the wholesale slaughter of young black men churning like he was the sole stockholder in a company that makes money per murder.

Name the Democrat and you see just the worst people you wouldn’t want to move into your city, let alone your neighborhood. Jasmine Crocket is sell-out fraud who code-shifts from her rich, spoiled, private school upbringing to broken English if she’s talking to a black audience. It’s the ultimate in condescension when she’s lived a life more “stereotypically white” than any white person I grew up with. Jamie Raskin only focuses on attacking the President, lying like the awful father he is, because he represents one of the richest, most radical leftist areas of the country and they’re rich enough to have the luxury of electing someone who can spend their time trying to screw over the rest of the country.

Eric Swalwell is what we would have called “retarded” 20 years ago, and Mazie Hirono is worse. The only thing Adam Schiff spends more time doing than lying in MSNBC tongue bath interviews is fundraising so he can buy influence with his fellow Democrats in the Senate. And then there is…hell, all of them.

“There’s a government shutdown looming and it will be a disaster,” say the people about to shut the government down because they want illegal aliens to get government-provided health care and subsidies explicitly created for “fight COVID” to continue forever.

When not actively dancing for the murder of their political opponents, Democrats are advocating for the murder of the country.

Honestly, you have to wonder if there is anything about this country and their fellow citizens they actually like, aside from the right to bitch about the country and their fellow citizens and how fundamentally “evil” we are.

They don’t like the Constitution, they don’t like most of the Bill of Rights – except how parts of it apply to them and their criminal friends – they don’t like anything. When was the last time you heard a Democrats express genuine love of the country? And a speech on July 4th doesn’t count

There aren’t any, there really aren’t.

I don’t know which would be worse: That people who vote for Democrats agree with them, or they don’t pay attention closely enough to what is happening in the country and vote for Democrats out of muscle memory. There are a lot of people who vote for Democrats “because my parents were Democrats, and my grandparents were Democrats,” all the way back to the time when people actually believe that “Democrats were for the little guy.”

Democrats are the party of billionaires and big corporations that love government subsidies and mandated use of their products. JFK went after the mob, Obama and Biden turned the party into the new mob.

These people hate you and hate the country, it isn’t even in dispute anymore – they’re proud of it and brag about it. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, hate them back.

The Democrat Freakshow Freakout Is All About Desperation

I guess the Bard must be MAGA because he sure knew how to assess the left’s current hysterical media meltdown: “It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.” Everywhere you look, it’s over-the-top hyperbole from every Dem legislator, Dem pundit, and Dem mutant, with lots of high-pitched squealing about fascism and racism and how Trump is trying to be a king and how he is a Nazi and blah blah blah blah blah. Obviously, it’s all nonsense. Obviously, it’s all coordinated. Obviously, the memo went out that the social media interns need to turn it up to 11, and the cable commies need to pump up the volume as well. But here’s a question, and it’s an important one.

Does it even matter?

Is anybody listening to these people? Certainly, they’re all over my timeline, promiscuously promising an authoritarian apocalypse while Trump continues to deliver what he promised. If you remember correctly, DJT promised, for example, that he was going to deport illegal aliens, and, lo and behold, he’s actually doing it. Maybe the fact that he’s keeping his word is what really offends the politicians, not the substance of that keeping. He also promised that he was going to seek righteous retribution against the people who wronged him through lawfare, as that looming doofus found out –Comey has got to be so happy that the feds don’t release booking photos because there’s no way he would’ve looked as iconic as Trump did glaring back at the bastards who tried to put him in jail for the rest of his life, and, failing that, gave the green light to their acolytes to try to murder him.

It goes without saying that their claims are substantively nonsensical and hypocritical, and, in fact, it’s kind of uncool to dwell on that. I mean that it hurts our dignity to be focused on pointing out all the ways in which Trump is not literally Hitler, or complaining about the Democrats’ refusal to admit the link between their unrelenting campaign of legal slash and burn against Donald Trump and those associated with America First and their current karma overload. Instead of crying about the injustice of it all, we should focus on bringing justice, the unlubed payback they are just beginning to feel, and will certainly feel a lot more in the future – what will happen next is not going to be ribbed for their pleasure.

We all know the score, and we’re beyond arguing that Dems are deceitful or hypocritical. We’re into the territory of just kicking their butts. But normal people still need to hear it. Normals have actual lives that usually don’t include politics, so we must continue to highlight pinko hypocrisy and supply the missing facts for normals who might not know all the details of exactly why the Democrats are full of it. Let’s just not pretend we’re scandalized and shocked because if, after over a decade of this, you’re still scandalized in shocked instead of coldly furious and dedicated to defeating them, you are weak and soft and belong not in the front ranks with the warriors but in the rear with the camp followers. If so, you do have a function, but it’s not being part of the fight. Your function is more like washing the figurative blood off our tunics.

But do the normals fall prey to the rhetorical spasms of our enemies? Is the Dem plan of attack, which seems to be screaming at the top of their lungs about everything all the time, an effective strategy? There’s no real polling on that point, but Trump’s polls at this juncture seem pretty good compared to comparable presidents, to the extent there have ever been any. Anecdotes are evidence only of anecdotes, but that’s all we really have at the moment. What do the normals in your world say? I have yet to encounter anybody who looked at me with a straight face and said, “Well, Trump’s clearly trying to be a king.”

Nor do I encounter normal people getting upset over the designated outrage du jour. These outrages don’t seem so outrageous, and they just don’t hit the way the Dems hope. Recently, some woman put her hands on an ICE agent and he knocked her on her Schumer; Dems expected normals to be scandalized, but normals know that if you start putting hands on people, they’re going to put hands on you. Wizened wine woman Mikie Sherrill, who is running for governor of New Jersey and always reminds me of Billy Jack’s girlfriend who teaches at the Rainbow School, was recently fulminating about how the federal government released her previously hidden military records, which revealed an honor violation at the Naval Academy. There was a lot of teenage girl screaming, “I can’t believe you came into my room and read my diary!” energy. And normal people had to wonder why Jake Tapper, who is what Brian Stelter would be if Brian Stelter weren’t a potato, was claiming that Jimmy Kimmel getting a paid week off was the greatest assault on free speech in the history of ever just a couple of weeks after one of his ideological fellow travelers murdered Charlie Kirk for talking. And, of course, there is the aforementioned Comey, who not only sent Martha Stewart up the river for the same crime he’s been indicted for, but got all sanctimonious about it. Normal people like Martha Stewart. They don’t like goofy nerds inclined to brag about taking her scalp.

It’s just so pathetic. They’ve got nothing else. They don’t have the White House. They don’t have Congress. They don’t have SCOTUS. They don’t have a media monopoly. Worst of all, they don’t even have the extra-constitutional fourth branch of government, the deep state, the way they used to because Trump 2.0 knows exactly what time it is and has ruthlessly sought to gut it. Every time you see the regime media highlighting some GS-11 who quit because Orange Man Bad, celebrate. That’s one less loser inside the tent, and nobody cares that a bunch of other losers clapped their flippers together as he walked out of the tent and into the scary world of the private sector. All of this reeks of desperation. All of this is the best they can come up with as they face total defeat. And if you really want to be cruel, and you should want to be cruel, remind them that they’ve got at least three-and-a-half more years of this agony ahead.

It’s also so tiresome. Their plan is to put the pedal to the metal, but that means very different things when you’re driving a Yugo as opposed to driving a Ferrari. They are driving a crappy Schiffbox from behind the Iron Curtain held together with duct tape and spit, covered in bumper stickers that say things like, “Defund The Police,” “Some Women Have A Penis,” and “Take That, JewsZionists.” They howl and bay about how Trump is the worst thing ever was, and yet the freakshow factions that make up their base force them to offer an unappealing alternative. What they offer is a bunch of Third World predators imported to take our jobs and rape our women, for which they won’t be prosecuted, and whom we get to subsidize with our taxes.

Obviously, they don’t want to dwell on that, so it’s fascist, fascist, fascist 24/7. I’m not sure if they intended to make “fascism” look good, but they seem to be having a “Starship Troopers” problem because the things they expect us to be repelled by— in this case, closed borders, foreign enemies too scared to get into another war with us, an economy that favors American workers, and the removal from power of bureaucrats and sexually unsatisfied white women who hate our guts— seem pretty awesome.

Remember, none of what they’re doing now, with their kicking and screaming like a 10-year-old brat with a gentle parenting mom lying on her back having a tantrum in a Kroger’s, is what winners do. Winners win. Losers whine.

US to Revoke Colombian President's Visa After He Encouraged Soldiers to Incite Violence

The U.S. said it will revoke the visa of the Colombian President Petro Gustavo after he allegedly urged soldiers to disobey orders and incite violence, according to a post from the State Department.

“Earlier today, Colombian president @petrogustavo stood on a NYC street and urged U.S. soldiers to disobey orders and incite violence.

We will revoke Petro’s visa due to his reckless and incendiary actions.”

Grok translated an X post from Petro saying:

“Greetings to the Goths, in the land of the great Colombians, all is well. Uribe enjoys his freedom, every human being must be free, even if our democratic kindness is not appreciated. The enemy is placated, so that he does not kill. But to Uribe, I repeat, the same thing I told him personally, in the presence of Senator Uribe: Never will any order that harms his family and assets come from my hand. The democratic and Bolivarian state, the state of Bolívar's sword, protects him, and will not allow his rights to be violated, but it also says that the rights of other people will not be violated. Humanity must be the collective of free people, in all places on the planet.”

Petro seems to disagree with President Donald Trump designating Antifa as a domestic terrorist group.

“When Trump orders that libertarian organizations be considered terrorists, he is dynamiting the very heart of freedom itself.

France delivered its gift poorly. The goddess of Liberty is and must be in all of humanity.”

Petro apparently has a problem with Trump cracking down on domestic terrorism in his own country. Law enforcement has tied Antifa to at least two recent fatal shootings.

Last week, a man shot up an Immigrations and Customs Enforcement facility in Dallas. The man shot from a nearby rooftop at the ICE building, including at a van where he shot three detainee victims. One detainee is dead, and the other two are in critical condition. The gunman was found dead with a self-inflicted gun wound.

The shooter apparently wrote “anti-ICE” on his ammunition found at the scene.

The man who fatally assassinated Charlie Kirk in Utah earlier this month also wrote things on ammunition left at the scene of the crime.

The Kirk shooter was extremely online and he etched video game references, transgender, and antifascist symbols onto the weapon he used.

In response, Trump sent troops to secure ICE facilities in Portland, and Attorney General Pam Bondi.

Bondi posted on X.

"Under President Trump’s leadership, there is ZERO TOLERANCE for political violence and domestic terrorism. I am deploying federal agents to @ICEgov facilities around the country. If you so much as touch one of our federal officers, you will go to prison."

Bad Night for Antifa in Portland As Feds Move In

RedState

As RedState reported, President Donald Trump announced Saturday morning that he had authorized sending troops to Portland, Oregon, in response to ongoing anti-ICE violence in the notoriously far-left, poorly-led blue city, some of which is being orchestrated by the leftist Antifa rioters that Democrats keep claiming don't exist.

"I am directing Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, to provide all necessary Troops to protect War ravaged Portland, and any of our ICE Facilities under siege from attack by Antifa, and other domestic terrorists,” Trump said on Truth Social, noting he was authorizing them to use "full force" if necessary.

In response, Antifa has reportedly planned a "direct action" event at the Portland ICE facility, set to take place sometime Sunday afternoon.

Antifa Responds to Trump Order on Portland Troop Deployment, and Things Could Get Really Ugly

While that situation has yet to play out, and while it's also unclear when troops will actually be sent in, a federal presence was already visible Friday night ahead of Trump's official announcement:

Sure enough, as the Antifa thuggery got underway Saturday night, they were met not just with a response via air:

But also on the ground:

Daviscourt, an investigative reporter for The Post Millennial, also wrote that "It’s mass chaos tonight outside the ICE facility. Agitators appear to be furious about military deployment."

It is, of course, only going to get worse for Antifa and their allies the longer they keep this up, as Trump has made it crystal clear that the days of feckless "leadership" from Democrats amid the routine takeovers of city streets from these far-left thugs in blue cities are over.

Screeching Anti-ICE Protester Too Busy Being Mad to Realize Her Car Is Rolling Into a Lake

RedState

My colleague Jennifer Oliver O'Connell has a weekly feature called "Feel-Good Friday," in which she highlights those feel-good stories that remind us there is good in the world and, more importantly, we can be the good in the world if we choose to. It is a lovely series that I hope you are all reading whenever it goes live on the front page of RedState.

However, while it is true that we can be the good we want to see in the world, sometimes forces beyond our comprehension recognize that, amid all the bad going on, sometimes we need a little help finding joy. So, for whatever reason, those forces saw a great need this Sunday morning and gave us exactly what we needed during these trying times: An anti-ICE protester screeching about an illegal getting arrested only to discover she forgot to put her car in park.

Fox News reporter Bill Melugin brings us this fantastic story today.

Now I do not wish bodily harm on others—or, at most, I wish a small space rock would hit someone just hard enough to really inconvenience their day—but I am not opposed to pointing and laughing when Karma does its job.

Most of us have probably been a little forgetful with our vehicles. We might've forgotten to turn it off before going inside. Maybe we forgot to lock it, and it got robbed. Perhaps we were paying attention as the gas tank got too low. And, yes, some of us have forgotten to put our car in park. But it takes a special kind of forgetfulness, the kind often accompanying misguided rage, that would let us walk away from our car before ensuring it rolls into the nearest body of water.

Or, perhaps, the car was simply tired of all the screeching and decided to do something about it. Frankly, it would be irresponsible of me as a journalist to rule out that possibility.

Escalation: Now Chicago Anti-ICE Rioters Are Carrying Guns

RedState

It is beginning to look a lot like open rebellion in several of the country's major cities. Federal law enforcement is surging into Portland, Oregon, to break the Antifa siege of the Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) building there. There have been riots, there have been organized protests, and there have been clashes with local cops and federal law enforcement.

On Saturday, in Chicago, a so-called "sanctuary" jurisdiction led by one of the most incompetent mayors in the nation, Brandon Johnson, things may be poised to escalate. In Sunday, the Department of Homeland Security released images of at least two handguns seized from anti-ICE rioters, as well as making a statement that at least one improvised explosive device was also confiscated.

The post continues:

An investigation is underway into what appears to be some sort of explosive device found last night near the ICE Chicago detention facility.

A Fox News piece published Sunday has more details:

Federal law enforcement agents deployed pepper balls and tear gas Friday during a standoff with anti-ICE protesters outside of Chicago.

The confrontation came just two days after a shooter opened fire at an ICE facility in Dallas, Texas. The gunman in that incident killed one detainee and injured two others before taking his own life, authorities said.

At least 50 protesters were seen midday Friday at an ICE processing center in Broadview, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. An ICE spokesperson told Fox News that two were arrested, one of whom was carrying a firearm.

This far from the first time things have gotten ugly at this Chicago-area ICE facility.

Last week, violent clashes between protesters and ICE agents at the facility led to 16 arrests.

In the demonstration, "rioters and sanctuary politicians obstructed law enforcement, threw tear gas cans, rocks, bottles, and fireworks, slashed tires of cars, blocked the entrance of the building, and trespassed on private property," the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said, adding that rioters also assaulted law enforcement officials.

But the presence of an IED seems a significant escalation.

From the photo provided—mind you, this is pure speculation—the improvised explosive appears to be a sphere covered with tape, with a length of fuse attached. It appears to be the type of fuse used in model rocket launches, although that's impossible to tell from the photo. The sphere could be metal or ceramic; again, it's impossible to tell from the photo. However, this appears to be something intended to be thrown, not left in place for later detonation.

In other words, this device looks like nothing so much as an improvised hand grenade. They could contain a compound designed to emit smoke, instead of an explosive, designed to impede observation of the rioter's actions. But in either case, the presence of arms and improvised devices like this represents a significant escalation.

Hegseth Orders 200 National Guard Troops to Portland—State Dems Immediately Flip Out, Take Action

RedState

On Saturday, President Donald Trump authorized the use of military force to quell the never-ending drama in Portland, and late Sunday, Department of War Secretary Pete Hegseth made good on that and ordered 200 National Guard troops to the West Coast city.

Portland, of course, has been the site of many Antifa riots, the recent violent actions against ICE facilities, and—don’t forget—numerous Black Lives Matter outbursts during the 2020 George Floyd riots. They vandalized the federal Mark O. Hatfield U.S. Courthouse and were accused of arson, destruction, and attacks on federal officers.

The Trump administration said they’re not going to put up with that kind of activity any longer:

Hegseth sent the forces in for 60 days:

For weeks, President Trump has called out Portland, specifically cited protests outside the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement building on Macadam Ave. For weeks, Trump has hinted that he may send additional federal law enforcement or troops to the city. Many state and local officials have disputed that framing, saying that the president is relying on an outdated view of the city and may be referencing videos from the protests in 2020.

Not surprisingly, the Democrats who have overseen the perpetual anarchy in Portland are showing no interest in stopping it, and immediately moved to block Trump’s action:

Gov. Tina Kotek, Attorney General Dan Rayfield, and Portland Mayor Keith Wilson held a news conference Sunday where they squawked about Trump trying to “score political points” and overstepping his political authority. They would have a leg to stand on, perhaps, if they’d done anything in their power in the last five years to restore law and order to the Rose City.

“The problem is that the president is using social media to inform his views,” Rayfield said. “Instead of working with elected leaders across this country, the president is either purposefully ignoring the reality on the ground in Portland to score political points or at best is recklessly relying upon social media gossip.”

Throughout the weekend, Oregon officials had hoped to persuade Trump and other cabinet officials from moving forward with a plan he announced on social media Saturday morning to send troops to Portland – “authorizing Full Force, if necessary” – though the president did not specify what he meant.

As we reported, Trump declared Antifa to be a "major" terrorist organization Wednesday, which could significantly change how the federal government deals with them (read: a lot more harshly).

It’s unclear as of this writing what happens next: will a judge slap a temporary restraining order on Hegseth’s plans? Are the troops already getting ready to deploy at this moment? RedState will keep you updated on the never-ending story of the drama in Portland.
