Prepare for Meltdowns: CBS Report, Post-Debate Poll Show Good News for Trump in Michigan

Nick Arama reporting for RedState

In the wake of the debate, we're looking at a lot of signs between polls and focus groups to see where folks are going. One of the major swing states at issue in this election is Michigan, and it's likely to factor in big time.

The swing states where Kamala Harris probably has the best chance right now of winning are probably Michigan and Wisconsin. But it's still pretty tight and even a recent local poll had former President Donald Trump up over Harris.

Our friends at our sister site Townhall reported on how CBS reporter Major Garrett went to Michigan and spoke with voters there, hitting a variety of places. Garrett found something that it seems he wasn't expecting. But he didn't hold back on commenting about it.

"I talked to 20 voters. Not one of them was undecided. Not one," he said. "And...Headlines come and go. Support for President Trump is real and resilient. I encountered that everywhere I went."

He went to Saginaw where he spoke to a server at one of the restaurants. She previously voted for Hillary Clinton, but now was definitely for Trump.

She had even cried when Hillary lost but was convinced by what Trump did when in office.

Garrett also spoke to a small business owner who naturally backed Trump and said he was "absolutely" better off four years ago.

He stopped in Dearborn and spoke to two next-door neighbors.

One had retired thinking she'd have enough to live on for the rest of her life. But now in the present economy, she wasn't sure and was thinking she might have to go back to work part-time. The retiree said she would be "petrified" if Trump didn't win. I hear her.

Both were concerned about illegal immigration and were worried about how it might affect things. When you consider some of the things Harris has said, and how bad the "moderate" Joe Biden has already been on that front, you understand.

Garrett spoke with another man who said a lot of the Arab-American community were now "one issue voters" and that many, including him, were considering sitting out the election because of the Biden-Harris positions on the Israel-Hamas war. That can't be good for Harris.

Garrett said Democrats told him they thought it could be within 50,000 votes. He said Biden won Michigan in 2020 by 150,000 votes. He pointed out how if a significant portion of the Arab-American community sits it out, that could be the difference and give the state to Trump, saying "That's a big deal."

When he talks about how significant the support for Trump is there, you know that the Harris folks have to be sweating. And now a new Insider Poll for Michigan confirms that support even more, with Trump up 49 percent to 48 percent Harris.

That's going to have the Harris people melting down now. If she loses Michigan, she's in trouble.
