Bush, McCain, and Romney Aides Made a Move in Presidential Race That Didn't Get Reaction They Hoped

Nick Arama reporting for RedState

President Donald Trump shook up the race by securing Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s endorsement. He's now also had Tulsi Gabbard endorse him, and more are coming.

What wasn't new was that he was converting former Democrats to the Republican side; we saw it already with people like Elon Musk and other big tech folks.

Part of that is Trump being regarded as the better candidate on issues such as free speech and censorship, and part of it is how bad Democrats have been on such matters.

This doubtless has Democrats very nervous.

Now I don't know what the media behind this were thinking, but if they believed this was going to influence anyone on the right, then I don't think they know where the Republican Party is right now:

More than 200 former aides to the three GOP presidential nominees who preceded former President Trump in 2016 — former President George W. Bush, former Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) — endorsed Vice President Harris on Monday.

The majority of the group also endorsed President Biden in 2020. The group wrote a letter announcing the endorsement, USA Today first reported.

They echoed the usual false Democrat themes, trying to connect Trump to Project 2025 and do a Russia, Russia, Russia thing.

They added, “At home, another four years of Donald Trump’s chaotic leadership, this time focused on advancing the dangerous goals of Project 2025, will hurt real, everyday people and weaken our sacred institutions. Abroad, democratic movements will be irreparably jeopardized as Trump and his acolyte JD Vance kowtow to dictators like Vladimir Putin while turning their backs on our allies.”

First, Trump has nothing to do with Project 2025, and it's the Biden-Harris team who has done all kinds of things to weaken our "sacred institutions," such as attacking our Supreme Court and trying to go around its decisions.

Second, it's hilarious that they're reaching so far that they're scraping for "volunteers" and "interns" of McCain/Bush/Romney, as though anyone frankly would care what they have to think. You can check out the names; I recognized two among the more than 200. Not exactly anyone that people would even know.

If most of these people were already supporting Biden in 2020, then guess what? While they might identify as Republicans, they're supporting Democrats. It tells you a lot more about them. They're not just being anti-Trump -- they're supporting Biden and Harris. If they can support Biden or the radical ideas of Harris, then they're not conservatives, in my humble opinion. Also, this just confirms that there were a lot of people who weren't conservative working for Romney et al.

If they thought that was going to influence anyone on the right to vote for Harris, I think they're sadly mistaken, at least judging by the response to the story. Virtually all of the responses mocked the letter. Many joked they didn't need another reason to vote for Trump, but thanks for another. Some called it a great ad for Trump.
