On Wednesday, Rep. Jason Smith (R-MO), chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, revealed explosive revelations concerning Hunter Biden’s prior statements to Congress. During the May 22, 2024, session, Smith opened by revealing documents provided by IRS whistleblowers indicating that Biden lied in his February deposition before Congress to distance himself from his involvement in the Biden family’s international business dealings.
“New documents provided by the whistleblowers show that Hunter Biden repeatedly lied to Congress in his February deposition,” Smith said, explaining that Biden sought to “distance his involvement in what should be considered a clear scheme to enrich the Biden family.”
The documentation provided by the whistleblowers detailed how Biden and his business partners raked in millions by using the Biden name.
“From whistleblower-provided evidence, we know Hunter Biden and his business associates made millions from selling access to Joe Biden and the quote ‘brand’ that is Joe Biden around the world,” Smith said.

One of the most damning pieces of evidence involved a WhatsApp message in which Hunter Biden allegedly threatened a business associate. Smith said the documents indicated that “Hunter Biden twice mentioned he was with his father.” However, in the deposition, Hunter claimed he was “high or drunk” and sent it to the wrong person. Yet, Hunter’s claim was debunked by phone records showing that the message was sent to Raymond Zhao, a Chinese businessman affiliated with the company with which Hunter was doing business.
Smith emphasized this point, saying that Hunter “was using his father’s name to shake down a Chinese businessman – and it worked. And when confronted by Congressional investigators about it, he lied.”
Hunter Biden also allegedly lied about his role in Rosemont Seneca Bohai, a business venture founded in 2009 by Hunter, Devon Archer, and Christopher Heinz. Hunter had denied being the corporate secretary or having control over the company’s bank accounts. However, Smith knocked down this claim, saying that “The truth is in his own handwriting,” referring to a document where Hunter identified himself as the “duly elected, qualified and acting Secretary of Rosemont Seneca Bohai, LLC.”
Smith also brought up the issue of allegations that Hunter helped people obtain U.S. visas.
“Third, Hunter Biden lied during his deposition when he said he never helped individuals obtain U.S. visas. The whistleblowers have provided an email to the Committee between Devon Archer, Hunter Biden, and Ukrainian associates in which Archer stated, ‘Hunter is checking with Miguel Aleman to see if he can provide cover to Kola on the visa.’ Kola, being the CEO of Burisma, Nikolay Zlochevsky and whose, the email also indicates, U.S. visa was revoked as there was concern about his foreign travel.
The chairman concluded his remarks by asserting that “Congress cannot allow our oversight responsibilities to be undermined by lies told by anyone, including the President’s son. Hunter Biden, despite what he may believe, is not above the law.”
