Back on December 13, 2023, Hunter Biden was supposed to appear in response to a subpoena before the House as part of their investigation into his father, Joe Biden.
But instead, Hunter blew off appearing and instead gave a public statement on the steps of the Capitol, attacking the Republicans.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was asked about this and she said something that potentially put Joe Biden in trouble.
That raised questions about whether Joe Biden had been involved in his son blowing off the subpoena. If there were, that could be a potential obstruction, when they want to ask Hunter about questions pertaining to an investigation of Joe Biden. Then as George Washington law professor Jonathan Turley noted, that could raise questions about misuse of staff, if the WH ran them out there to potentially cover Biden's actions.
Hunter ultimately did testify behind closed doors.
Now, according to a new report exclusive to the NY Post, there's even more information that may not be good for Joe Biden.
The White House met with Hunter Biden’s legal team just days before he defied a congressional subpoena, raising serious questions about coordination between the two camps, critics said.
The confab between Hunter Biden’s white-shoe attorney Abbe Lowell and Anthony Bernal, a top aide to First Lady Jill Biden, happened at 6 p.m. on Dec. 11, 2023, in the East Wing, according to White House visitor logs.
The logs also show Lowell met with President Biden, though it was likely in the context of a White House Hanukkah reception held on the same day.
Bernal had also been subpoenaed to testify before the House Oversight Committee on the question of Joe Biden's handling of classified documents. Bernal is the guy who has been referred to as Jill Biden's "work husband" and has faced allegations of harassment of other employees. But the White House has dismissed any complaints out of hand, despite Joe Biden previously saying that he wouldn't tolerate any harassing behavior.
White House representatives are claiming both meetings pertained to Hanukkah. but House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-KY) is saying they need answers about the meeting.
“We’ve called on the White House to provide information about whether President Biden sought to influence or obstruct our investigation by preventing, discouraging, or dissuading his son from complying with the subpoenas for a deposition as part of the House of Representatives’ impeachment inquiry, but the White House has refused to provide any information,” said Comer.
“The White House must provide the public with information about the contents of this meeting in order to provide transparency to the American people.”
They need to hold Joe Biden's feet to the fire--and get some answers on this.
