Once again, Ukraine has been made the preeminent issue in the United States, standing tall above any attempt to secure the Southern border. On Saturday, every Democrat and nearly half the Republican caucus in the House voted to pass a standalone aid package that included over $60 billion for the beleaguered European nation.
In one of the most tone-deaf displays imaginable, Democrats started furiously waving Ukraine flags on the floor of the House to celebrate the vote.
I don't care if one is for or against aid for Ukraine, and I understand the geopolitical factors at play in trying to prevent Russia from succeeding. That's not an excuse to start waving the flag of another nation around while American priorities continue to fall by the wayside. What we saw on the House floor was disgusting and a total dereliction of duty by most of the members. To pass over $60 billion more for Ukraine while not allocating a single penny to help secure the Southern Border is unfathomable.
Rep. Gerald Connolly (D- VA) went so far as to directly proclaim that the Ukrainian-Russian border is "our border" while dismissing the need to deal with the crisis on America's actual border.
That dynamic wasn't lost on Border Patrol agents who have been suffering under the current chaos. Reporter Bill Melugin started receiving fiery texts in response to the aid package vote.
Can you blame them? I'd be fuming too if I were in their shoes. These guys are facing an onslaught and are receiving zero help from the do-nothings in Washington. Forget about whether there should have been more Ukraine aid or not. What excuse was there to pass a foreign aid package without at least including funding to secure the border along with it? Democrats fought tooth and nail to ensure that Ukraine would get tens of billions while CBP agents would get nothing.
I can only hope there's some electoral retribution coming in November. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills watching this all play out. Millions and millions of illegal aliens have poured in under Joe Biden, with many living on the streets and overwhelming local communities, and Congress can't manage to do anything about the situation while they wave Ukraine flags around. The optics are simply stunning.
