It might not seem like it, but I'm getting the stark impression that the "Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion" (DEI) nonsense is now about to experience a harsh downhill slide, and I br that on the fact that the left is now starting to get really defensive about it.
More and more, I'm seeing accusations that what people really mean when they blame a major malfunction or failure to operate properly on "DEI" is the "n-word."
“DEI” is basically just a stand-in for the N word now pic.twitter.com/AfkZygoRe8

MSNBC's Joy Reid tried to push the same narrative, not on her show but in a weird video she uploaded of herself to the internet.

It's a bizarre reaction but not really a surprising one when you consider what DEI is to the left.
DEI is a method of control when you break it down. It's the ability to pressure every business in America into accepting a leftist stance on various subjects and business practices under the guise of it being about "equality" and "inclusion." Businesses that fail to do so can be accused of racism or being "behind the times," and other businesses can and will refuse to work with them.
This could open them up to other issues, such as bad PR and sometimes even lawsuits.
As such, a company will bend the knee to DEI and hire people who aren't as qualified or haven't accrued enough merit. Oftentimes, larger businesses will open up a DEI department where hiring decisions are often made, inviting in more and more people who have the same leftist mentality. Before you know it, that business is infested from the inside with people bent on turning it into a leftist message delivery system. Bonus points if the businesses donate to leftist causes.
It's a lot like a virus.
The left gets a lot out of DEI. It's a tool that allows money to flow into coffers, influences to be spread to the people, and control, control, control.
But this has clearly created an issue in quality and some of these quality issues could easily turn deadly. For instance, the FAA and various airline companies are DEI-focused, resulting in the airline industry becoming less and less trusted as issues mount.
DEI has currently infested our medical industry, resulting in people becoming doctors who have no business treating anyone for something as innocuous as a scraped knee. This includes a woman who was recently given her medical license and intentionally injured a patient because he was conservative.
As more and more examples mount that show DEI is something that is truly harmful to businesses, people, and society in general, more and more people are souring on it, and as such, the left sees an element of control slipping out of their grasp.
So naturally, the reaction is to start accusing people who are critical of DEI as racists, and not just racists, but racists who really just want to say racial slurs.
Which isn't going to work.
Bullying to make people cave to a political ideology might work for superficial things, but when it starts having major effects on people's personal lives, the go-along-to-get-along pretense gets dropped really quickly. It's hard to make someone care that they sound remotely racist when their loved ones are being wheeled into an operating room under the care of someone who wouldn't have passed medical school without DEI assistance.
And this is where DEI, and indeed this form of leftist control, tends to stumble.
Many people in our nation put up with the left's finger-wagging, but only to a point. If the pandemic taught us anything, it's that when the pain truly sets in, people drop the act and start getting real about what DEI or leftist programs are costing them. It's not always immediate, but it eventually happens.
And even then the pattern was that people were accused of some of the worst things. They wanted to kill Grandma, they didn't care about the children, they were crazy conspiracy theorists who needed to die off, etc., etc.
And here we are now. As people are turning on DEI, the left is rolling out the accusations.
It might not seem like it yet, but this is a clear sign that they're losing their grip.
