President Joe Biden, along with Vice President Kamala Harris, gave a public statement in front of the White House on Friday morning about the administration's newest actions on gun control. Depending on what your views are, it went about as well, or as poorly, as you can expect from this President and Vice President.
Biden, who is also standing next to Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-Fla.), rambling about allegedly not being eligible to serve in the Senate at the time he was first elected or something due to not quite being 30 years old yet. Notice right at the beginning where Harris has sort of a tight smile on her face as Biden starts to tell the story, perhaps clasping her hands to keep herself from covering her facial reactions:
Together, along with a gun control advocate they had with them, they gave complete, though asinine, statements on guns, what they're doing about so-called "gun violence," and their alleged support for the Second Amendment. Everyone in America agrees that death -- whether it is by suicide or a murder caused by a firearm -- is tragic. Even a self-defensive use of a firearm is tragic. However, the most frustrating part about having a legitimate discussion on guns, is that it never happens.
Discussing gun control has become what I consider to be a fool's errand, because nobody wins or at the very least, there never comes a point where there is common ground with the opposing side. I have for years tried to have exactly that: a legitimate discussion about guns and gun control. That happened one time, back in 2017, when I went on my local radio station to have a gun control debate with a well-known liberal named Stephen, who supports gun control and wants to get rid of the 2nd Amendment entirely.
To prepare for any debate, I take it very seriously. So I did my research as one should, took notes, and had sources to defend my talking points. It went about as well for the other guy as you would expect, when they don't do research and speak from raw emotion and not fact. Because, as I like to say, the facts don't care about your feelings.
Now, it should be noted that I had a really good rapport with Stephen, my experience with him was that he was a good and honest guy who would listen to your views and try to convince you that you're wrong. I respect that. The reason why I bring this up is that he was warned, by several members of the liberal left in my town, that he shouldn't do it, but he agreed anyway. After the debate, nobody wanted to go near me with the topic. In fact, I attempted to organize a town hall event where we would have two people from each side debate gun control, with myself and Stephen moderating. Nobody wanted anything to do with it.
As time went on over the years, the debates got more and more sparse, because nobody wanted to have the discussion due to the gun control crowd changing the game. They continuously change the definitions of what a gun really is, what a mass shooting is, and more. Politicians like Biden or Harris now use gaslighting gun owners as the standard tactic to sway public opinion against guns.
Time and time again, we, as gun owners, are belittled, castigated, and criticized if we don't meet their levels or requirements for gun ownership and use. When Biden says if you need 80 shots in a magazine, you don't need a gun, he means he has no idea what he is talking about, for one; but most importantly, he doesn't understand the actual meaning of the Second Amendment.
Biden isn't the first liberal to show his ignorance, Congressman Eric Swalwell (D-CA) made the same idiotic mistake when he threatened to use nukes on civilians.
Swalwell's comments were in response to other comments about the need for firearms like the AR-15 to protect ourselves from a tyrannical government. It was Biden, who just in 2022 said we would need an F-15, referring to the tactical strike fighter used by the Air Force, to defend this country.
What Swalwell and Biden keep forgetting -- and understanding at the same time -- is that is exactly what we need. They also forget the 100-plus years of warfare that America has been involved in. It was the American Revolutionaries who perfected irregular or guerilla warfare. It was the Americans who used this tactic to help defeat the British, who had the largest and strongest military in the world at that time. It was the Viet Minh who used the same tactics to win against the French in Vietnam, then the Viet Cong who did the same to us just 20 years later. It was the Afghans who used these tactics to defeat the Soviets in their invasion of that country in the 1980s and again, the Americans over 40 years later.
The fact is, the Second Amendment wasn't about hunting, it wasn't about sport shooting; it was literally about the God-given right of the individual to own and carry weapons of war to protect themselves and their property from a tyrannical government. The rights are given to us by our creator, NOT by the Federal government, not by any body of government. It was given to us as part of the checks and balances our Founders spoke about. We, as Americans, are the only people on Earth who have that right, that power. But the more time goes on, the more Americans are lied to by elitists like Biden, Harris, and countless others, who say we are being overly paranoid and that we are the problem. We are the ones that need to disarm for the common good.
Our rights do not give a damn about your feelings. Americans need to finally come to terms with that fact and stop capitulating our rights to a corrupt and power-hungry government. We have a fundamental problem in this country, when the nation that our Founders founded with the blood and sweat of their friends and families is being relegated to the dustbins of history. Our politicians have abdicated their responsibilities to the courts, and we, as voters, have abdicated our rights and responsibilities to the politicians. Make no mistake about this: the left will never stop when it comes to guns. They will always find something else to take away. History proves this point clearly for all to see.
When gun control is mentioned in conversation, it always takes a political or ideological turn to blame one side or the other for it or the lack thereof. Democrats have historically led the charge for gun control, and the proof is in the pudding, so to speak. In 1934, Democrat President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the National Firearms Act, which essentially banned machine guns, short-barreled rifles and shotguns, and suppressors, unless you paid a $200 tax to the IRS at the time, which then sent it to the newly-formed agency known as the ATF.
Fast forward to 1968, and you have another Democrat bill, signed by another Democrat, President Johnson, called the Gun Control Act of 1968. However, this time, 147 Republicans joined the Democrats in the House to pass the bill. Fast forward to 1993 and another Democratic-led bill known as the HR 4296, or the Assault Weapons Ban of 1994, which thankfully sunsetted in 2004 after 10 years of showing almost no impact in the intended goal of preventing mass shootings.
So yes, Mr. President, I absolutely do require my AR-15 and any other firearm that I want. And yes, that includes a cannon because those are legal, too. Because I do not trust the government to protect me, and I sure as hell do not trust the government to say they won't turn on me or my family. Most assuredly, I do require the belt-fed machine gun, because 80 rounds just aren't going to cut the mustard.
