The investigation into President Joe Biden’s bribery scandal continues to heat up as a key member of the House Republican team that is looking into the matter made another major announcement. Rep. James Comer (R-KY) declared on Tuesday that he has issued another subpoena for bank records to investigate the president’s son Hunter and his relationship with a Russian oligarch.
The announcement comes only days after it was revealed that the FBI possessed, and hid, evidence indicating that Biden and his son received payments from a Ukrainian energy company to the tune of $5 million each while Joe Biden was still vice president under the Obama administration. Comer posted a tweet with a video clip of his conversation with Fox Business and noted that he plans to look into the alleged shell companies the Biden family set up to avoid scrutiny:
The Bidens have a pattern of using their network of over 20 sham companies and complicated financial transactions to hide money received from foreign adversaries.
I have now subpoenaed bank records to examine Hunter Biden’s relationship with a Russian oligarch.
During the Fox Business interview, Comer was asked why Burisma allegedly felt the need to offer Biden a bribe. The lawmaker explained that the company was trying to obtain entry into the American energy market and wanted the then-vice president to grease the wheels:
Yeah, what the motive was, Larry, was they were wanting to enter into the US energy market through an IPO. They felt like they couldn’t conduct an initial public offering if they were under investigation for corruption in Ukraine. That’s what it all pertained to. That’s where the supposed bribe happened. That’s why it happened, because they wanted to get rid of the prosecutor and try to clear up their name and have a Biden on the board so that they could do an initial public offering to try to show credibility as they try to expand the market. They also wanted to buy an existing energy company, and I believe it was in Texas, but I don’t know the name of the company. So that was their whole business model to get their foot in the door, buy a company and do an IPO.
Comer also suggested that there are other FD-1023 forms related to the bribery allegations against the Biden family. These forms are used to document information and testimony given by confidential human sources about matters that are under FBI investigation.
In this case, the first form chronicled a report given by one of these sources indicating that Biden had accepted bribe money. However, there is likely more to explore in this story as Comer explained that FBI Director Christopher Wray, under the threat of a motion to hold him in contempt of Congress, admitted “that there are other 1023s.”
The lawmaker then explained that they are looking at the money trail to get to the truth. “We’re following the money. To follow the money, we have to find these bank accounts and find these shell companies where the Bidens were laundering money through their shell companies,” he said.
This story is important for several reasons. For starters, if there are other FD-1023 forms out there providing more evidence of the Biden family’s corruption, it could further show the American public how far the rot goes. But even more than that, if Comer and his team are able to unravel the tangled web of the Biden shell companies, it could actually prove that the president took bribes from Burisma.
If this is the case, and these investigations actually turn up compelling evidence of the president’s guilt, there should be no reason why Republicans wouldn’t finally launch an impeachment effort against President Biden. As I’ve argued previously, it is unlikely that Biden would be removed from office with a Democrat-controlled Senate. But it would lay bare all of the corruption that Biden and Hunter had engaged in before the elder won the presidency. It could be just what the GOP needs to push the odds in their favor for 2024.
