It Begins: Border Overwhelmed as Thousands Line up to Cross When Title 42 Expires at Midnight

Title 42 expires at midnight on May 11, 2023, and thousands of illegals are already gathering in immense caravans as they prepare to try to cross our southern border. Although the Biden administration had years to prepare for this eventuality, officials seem woefully unprepared to deal with the humanitarian crisis.

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas issued warnings Thursday that those attempting to cross will face consequences. He also laughably claimed that “our borders are not open,” despite the fact that they’ve been a sieve since the day Joe Biden entered office.

Mayorkas addressed reporters Thursday in [a] promised briefing on the Biden administration’s plan to respond to a massive influx of illegal immigration that’s come as the Title 42 public health order lifts. The government will now use its authority under Title 8 to impose steep penalties on migrants who cross the border illegally, including a minimum five-year ban on reentry and potential criminal prosecution, according to the secretary.

“I want to be very clear: our borders are not open. People who cross our border unlawfully and without a legal basis to remain will be promptly processed and removed,” Mayorkas said.

But Mayorkas’ warnings aren’t stopping large groups from coming. Bill Melugin of Fox News is one of the only national news correspondents who has bothered to cover this story for years. Mayorkas might want to watch one of his numerous videos showing border crossers risking their lives to get into the United States illegally:

The crisis can be laid squarely at the feet of Joe Biden, whose policies have signaled to those who want to come that they will face little resistance. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton told RedState:

Joe Biden’s shocking border policies have caused a public safety and humanitarian crisis in Texas and in cities throughout America, and the end of Title 42 is only going to make this worse. Because Biden has invited over 6.3 million illegal immigrants into our country, every community will be impacted with more crime and a greater strain on our courts, law enforcement, schools, hospitals, and social services. His indifference to the suffering of the American people is stunning.

Democrats used to complain that former President Donald Trump’s border policies were inhumane. But this Biden crisis and the administration’s treatment of people is far worse:

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) wondered, where’s Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez?

Mayorkas and Biden might say all they want that the border isn’t open—yet they’re releasing thousands of illegals onto American streets with no way to track them:

However, these messages [the statements by Marorkas] contrast with reports from Fox News that President Biden’s top border officials will authorize border patrol sectors, including both government and non-government facilities, to release migrants to the streets of the U.S. if they reach full capacity. [emphasis mine]

The decision was made as an estimated 10,000 migrants a day flocked to the border ahead of the end of Title 42 Thursday. Migrants will soon be released in mass at bus stops, gas stations and cities across the border due to facilities already hitting capacity, sources at the U.S. Customs and Border Protection told Fox News.

This crisis is entirely of the Biden Administration’s making, and it will likely get worse before it gets better. That is, IF it ever gets better. It’s unlikely that conditions will improve as long as Joe Biden is president because he wants it this way.
