Kamala Accidentally KOs Herself in Attack on DeSantis' Ukraine Position

Kamala Accidentally KOs Herself in Attack on DeSantis' Ukraine Position

Nick Arama reporting for RedState

wrote earlier about Kamala Harris’ “interview” on “The Late Show” with Stephen Colbert.

Harris admitted that in some ways she is living out the HBO show “Veep” and she admitted something emblematic of what a flaming dumpster fire the Biden/Harris administration is.

But there was a little bit more that needs to be talked about where the two of them spoke about Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and the comment that he had made about the U.S. involvement in the war in Ukraine.

It looked like Colbert was trying to tee up an opportunity for Kamala Harris to go off on DeSantis. But it didn’t go particularly well.

First, Colbert did not tell the truth about what DeSantis said on the matter. “While there is a strain of isolationism all throughout American history, he’s saying that this is not in America’s strategic interest — to side with the Ukrainians, to offer them the material aid that they need to defend themselves against an invading power.”

But that isn’t what DeSantis said. Here’s what he said.

While the US has many vital national interests – securing our borders, addressing the crisis of readiness within our military, achieving energy security and independence, and checking the economic, cultural and military power of the Chinese communist party – becoming further entangled in a territorial dispute between Ukraine and Russia is not one of them.

He also said that Ukraine shouldn’t be given a virtual “blank check.”

The Biden administration’s virtual “blank check” funding of this conflict for “as long as it takes,” without any defined objectives or accountability, distracts from our country’s most pressing challenges… Without question, peace should be the objective. The US should not provide assistance that could require the deployment of American troops or enable Ukraine to engage in offensive operations beyond its borders.

DeSantis also said it shouldn’t be about a “policy of regime change” in Russia, something that Joe Biden seemed to say at one point, then took back.

So DeSantis did not say what Colbert claimed at all, what he said was that we should not become “further entangled” than we already are. He defined what it meant to him such as no deployment of American troops or helping Ukraine go beyond its borders in offensive actions. He did not say don’t help Ukraine or don’t give them defensive aid.

Did Kamala clarify that Colbert’s comment was not true? Of course not. She wanted to talk about the “significance” of what she’s learned in her job meeting “world leaders” so far. This was supposed to be her showing off her leadership skill versus DeSantis. But it didn’t go well, even with the setup from Colbert. Just repeating “significance” a lot (as she has done in the past with the “significance of time”) is not showing off anything other than her word salad ability.

Harris claimed that she had met with over “100 world leaders,” adding:

“When you have had the experience of meeting and understanding the significance on international rules and norms, and the importance of the United States of America standing firm and clear about the significance of sovereignty and territorial integrity, the significance of standing firm against any nation that would take by force another nation, if you really understand the issues, you probably would not make statements like that.”

Didn’t she just admit it is a “territorial dispute”? It sounded like she just said that. What she says is pap. “Standing firm” against one nation taking another nation? If that’s the standard by which we should become entangled in wars, we would be in constant wars all over the world. She makes no real case for involvement. She has no idea what she is saying, she just thinks it sounds like it has “significance.” The fact that she goes along with the false account of what DeSantis supposedly said means she’s either ignorant or dishonest, neither of which is a good recommendation for a leader.

Meanwhile, the great irony in that statement is that she doesn’t seem to give a darn about our own “sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

I doubt she’s met with as many leaders as she says. Phone calls aren’t a meeting. But I would note on the one job that she’s supposed to have — the border — let’s hear what the leader of Guatemala said about her work. Remember, she visited there to deal with the “root causes” of illegal immigration.

In June 2021, Guatemalan president Alejandro Giammattei said that the Biden/Harris team was responsible for the illegal alien surge into the U.S. because of the messages they were sending. He told Kamala Harris in a private meeting that the Biden/Harris team needed to stop sending mixed messages and they needed to go after human smugglers together. That was in June 2021. In December 2021, the Guatemalan president told Fox’s John Roberts that was the only communication that he’d had with the Biden administration. So much for that Harris leadership ability.
