We reported earlier on the monstrosity of the $1.7 trillion Omnibus Bill that the Democrats are trying to shove through Congress. It’s giving Joe Biden and the Democrats everything they want without holding them to anything, including things like securing the border. This spending, coming at a time when we’re already dealing with crushing inflation because of overspending, is madness. The bill just dropped and is more than 4000 pages long. No one could have read it all already, yet the Senate is already trying to pistol whip it through by Friday.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has announced that he is on board with it because he thinks that it provides more for defense priorities and less for non-defense priorities. But a video of McConnell went viral on Tuesday and is angering the base, because of what he said about Republican priorities.
“Making sure the Defense Department can deal with the major threats coming from Russia and China, providing assistance for Ukrainians to defeat the Russians is the number one priority for the United States right now according to most Republicans. That’s how we see the challenges confronting the country at the moment.”
How clueless is Mitch with this statement? I think he’s talking about Defense Department threats in general as well here, but claiming that money for Ukraine is part of the number one priority for the United States just infuriated people, given what the Democrats are trying to shove through with McConnell’s help, inflation, and the massive crisis at the border.
No, “most Republicans” would not include Ukraine as part of their “number one priority,” especially not the billions more allocated for Ukraine in this bill. They have $44 billion more being requested in the bill. The way Mitch says it even seems to equate defending Ukraine to the defense of the United States. I don’t know if he’s checked with his base lately but this is dangerously out of touch and many were letting him know it on Twitter.
If McConnell would ask his base, I think their priorities would be stopping the damage from the Democrats and not going along with them, stopping the massive invasion at the border, and doing something about inflation and energy prices. I don’t even think Ukraine would make it on any Republican’s top issues list. But they wonder why people doubt them and don’t have faith in them when they say things like this. His job is to represent the United States, not the world or Ukraine.
Ukraine is the number one priority of the people who pull the switches behind the scenes since there seems to be no accountability for the money pouring out to them and no end in sight. But if he truly thinks Republicans place it at the same level of priority as the defense of the United States, he’s seriously deluded.
