I have to say that the reaction from the Democrats versus the Republicans after the midterms pretty much says it all.
In the wake of the election, Joe Biden’s promise of student debt loan forgiveness went by the boards when the courts stopped it, as was expected. Biden hoodwinked the electorate to get votes for the Democrats, knowing that it was unconstitutional. But hey, he got the votes and that’s what the Democrats cared about. Biden also had promised that the first thing on the agenda after the election would be pushing to codify Roe. Then — after the election, when he was pressed on it — Biden said whoops, sorry, I don’t think we have enough votes.
All that was just to pump up you guys on the left, we weren’t going to push it.
If I were a Democrat who believed in any of that, I would be livid because they played people.
So now let’s look at the Republicans, by comparison. The Republicans had promised action on the connections of Joe Biden to his son’s business dealings with foreign government connections. On Thursday, they were on it. Rep. James Comer (R-KY) and Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) announced they were opening an official investigation into Joe Biden. Comer will be in charge of the House Oversight Committee in the new Congress and Jordan will likely chair the House Judiciary Committee.
Comer said this was an investigation of Joe Biden into “why he lied to the American people about his knowledge and participation in his family’s international business schemes.” Comer said this was important in the interests of national security and that they would pursue “all avenues.” Comer then listed some of the potential crimes that they were looking into including “conspiracy to defraud the United States, wire fraud, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, violation of the Foreign Agent’s Registration Act, violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, violations of the Trafficking Victims Act, tax evasion, money laundering, and conspiracy to commit money laundering.” Comer said there was everything from human trafficking to potential violations of the Constitution. Comer said that they would be looking into if Joe Biden had been “compromised” by foreign dollars.
“We also found plans based in the United States where the Biden family swindled investors of hundreds of thousands of dollars, all with Joe Biden’s participation and knowledge,” Comer continued. “In 2019, shortly after announcing his campaign for president, Joe Biden told the American people he had nothing to do with and never had conversations with his family about their business dealings. That was a lie.”
“Whistleblowers describe President Biden as chairman of the board for these businesses,” Comer explained. “He personally participated in meetings and phone calls. Documents show that he was a partner with access to an office. To be clear, Joe Biden is ‘the big guy,'” Comer stated.
“This evidence raises troubling questions about whether President Biden is a national security risk and about whether he is compromised by foreign governments,” Comer said of the gravity of what Republicans had found. “Despite the president’s claim that he wasn’t involved in Biden family business schemes, these photos show Joe Biden meeting with his family associates while vice president,” he added while displaying four images at Thursday’s press conference along with a map showing the “over 50 countries the Biden family sought businesses in…often led by Hunter Biden.”
“The investigation reveals a family that engaged with some of America’s most powerful adversaries, planning to sell one of the largest sources of cobalt for electric vehicles in the world to the Chinese, for example,” Comer also revealed. “The Biden’s flourished and become millionaires by simply offering access to the family.”
He said the Committees would continue to update the people as their investigations proceeded. Now, they will have more ability to drop subpoenas on the Bidens and get compliance with document requests.
So people are going to want to see two things. First, the Republicans can walk and chew gum at the same time — that they will do the rest of the people’s business while pursuing this. But second, that there are going to have to be some results to this investigation, that this isn’t just going to be an empty nod to the desires of the base to see that justice is done here, that it’s a real effort. Unfortunately, we’ve seen too many “investigations” that have shown a lot of crimes, but then no action is ever taken and nothing is ever done. And we’re left to stew about the double standards that we see, where the Democrats can do anything and get away with it, while Republicans are pursued even for imaginary charges like Russia collusion, which Democrats themselves were involved in helping to promote.
I think the guys in charge are a little bit of a different cut, so hopefully, that bodes well. It’s on.
