A chaotic scene in front of the Supreme Court unfolded on Tuesday as the USCP gave multiple warnings to protesters blocking First Street NE before finally making a large group of arrests. This time, it wasn’t just random, blue-haired abortion activists being led away, though.
According to the USCP, 16 members of Congress were also arrested. Who they specifically are hasn’t been released yet, but one look at social media provides some clues. Here’s Ilhan Omar, playing things up for the cameras, obviously among the arrest number.
A rundown of the timeline, per law enforcement, shows that the congressional members and other protesters were given three separate warnings to vacate the street. They didn’t do so, and police moved in.
The biggest question in all this remains exactly what the point of protesting in front of the Supreme Court is. The Justices have already overturned Roe v. Wade via the Dobbs decision. There is no mechanism by which they can now go back and reverse what they did, not even if they wanted to. At the very least, there needs to be a need lower court challenge compelling enough to be taken up, and that appears nowhere in sight. These politicians aren’t hoping to actually accomplish anything with their illegal protests because they can’t accomplish anything. They just want the press to report how oppressed they are for being arrested, as a way to push their narrative.
With that said, the USCP’s move is certainly interesting. Just days ago, Ocasio-Cortez slammed them as helping foment “insurrection” on January 6th, a claim she’s made several times without an ounce of evidence (and plenty to the contrary). She’s also lashed out at other times, accusing the USCP of putting her in danger and purposely not protecting her, with a heckling incident being the latest thing that set her off.
Remember when the USCP were proclaimed heroes because of January 6th? That sure went down the drain quickly, didn’t it? Now, Democrats are defying them in an attempt to create pro-abortion photo-ops.
Maybe the department’s leadership just had enough of allowing members of “the squad” to trash them while getting a free pass in regards to the law? Whatever it is, this feels like an escalation. Unfortunately, none of it will matter if prosecutors don’t actually pursue charges, and you can bet the house that the partisan DOJ is not going to do a thing to these congressional members. I would suspect there won’t even be any fines levied here.
