Vatican suspends ordination of priests in the diocese of Fréjus-Toulon
The unprecedented decision was experienced as a “shock” by part of
the Catholic community. It does not target seminarians but bishopric
pastoral options, which so many traditionalists would welcome.
Not heard in the Church of France. The Vatican
has ordered a bishop to suspend the ordination of six deacons and four
priests which must take place in just three weeks. They were postponed
but there was no timetable.
In an official statement, dated June 2, 2022, Mgr Dominique Rey, 69,
bishop of Fréjus Toulon for twenty -two years, explained that after “ visitation of the brethren at the request of Rome
“conducted by Mgr Aveline, Metropolitan Archbishop of Marseille in 2021
– with jurisdiction over the diocese of Fréjus Toulon -” requested to postpone diaconal and priestly ordinations scheduled for the end of June ».
“Sick”
This pastor is not hiding sick What does this Roman decision represent already mainly testing for those about to receive ordination ».
In fact, a source close to the bishop – who could not be contacted on Thursday afternoon – confirmed, “the decision was brutal».
