Bad ideas don’t get better with age, even when we have the “intellectually gifted” repeating them loudly and more frequently. Let’s take the monstrosity of Marxism, for example. When I was in my formative years in the early to mid-1980s, most normal folks would have politely laughed at anyone professing to follow anything from the failed Karl Marx.
In his 2020 book The Devil and Karl Marx: Communism’s Long March of Death, Deception, and Infiltration, Paul Kengor details that in 1849, one year after Marx published his “crowning work,” The Communist Manifesto, he was evicted by his landlord who was fed up with his filthiness. The landlord complained, “Karl drank too much, smoked too much, never exercised, and suffered from warts and boils due to a lack of washing. He stunk . . .” Marx went on to die in despair in March of 1883, penning these words to one of his few friends, “How pointless and empty is life, but how desirable.” I can see how someone of that caliber might be a role model to so many of today’s progressives!
Sadly for the progressives, proselytizing on behalf of Marx’s theories doesn’t make them work. Even the most objective on the Left would have a hard time showing the empirical data to make any communist country look successful—not the USSR, not Cuba or Venezuela, or whatever it is the Chinese Communist Party is trying to pull off. As much fun as it is for the Left to sing along with the Utopian lyrics of John Lennon’s “Imagine,” the truth is the whole Nirvana thing never really works out. In fact, it always goes in quite the opposite direction. While it sounds just wonderful that everyone shares everything equally, those pesky elitists pushing all this bunk never quite let you get there. Think Charlie Brown, Lucy, football.
Somehow, in every historical case (Venezuela comes to mind), those pushing the derivatives of equity and equality always seem to grab an outsized share of the action.
Additionally, you also get things like the destruction of monuments and the revising (or rewriting) of history as part of the bargain. Of course, any love of God must go, because the only truth determined or loyalty owed are by and to the State. We can’t put up with dissenting opinions either, so now those annoying freedoms of religion and speech come under attack.
But wait, didn’t that First Amendment thingy say: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances”? Yes, but that was just a bunch of, like really old entitled white dudes, so obviously they should be dismissed.
So why is any of this important, I mean we’re not really going to become (yet another) failed nation of socialists, right? Well, common sense would certainly dictate against this, but common sense it turns out is far less common, especially in the ranks of the “progressive” far-Left.
You must understand by now that we’re not on this path by accident. No, the stars and planets have been aligning, quite intentionally, for decades while we were letting someone else tend the farm. We were feasting on low interest rates, obtaining personal property (ick!), enjoying microwavable burritos (possibly even with the forbidden beef!), and streaming endless hours of content that just plain made us dumber. Meanwhile, our elite Marx-loving antagonists have been quite busy taking over almost all of higher education, the K-12 teachers’ unions, and now finalizing the propaganda, er curriculum, for your child to be subjected to during their reprogramming (a.k.a. education).
After all, we can’t afford to risk that some of our children may grow up and notgo to college. Where then, would these leftists ever get the chance to corrupt them? The creative minds behind this intentional slide into socialism were the very people my uncle referenced when he once said, “If you send an idiot to college, you get an educated idiot.”
So, there it is. A failed system begat by a failed man that has, shockingly, historically also always failed when implemented. It’s being pushed by a bunch of “educated idiots,” who believe our country is a historic and international embarrassment that needs to be apologized for, fundamentally broken down, and then rebuilt based on Marxist principles. All of which begin with the reprogramming of your children from pre-K to graduate school.
Sounds like more of the God and country loving, flag-waving, baseball playing, hot dog and apple pie eating, and Chevrolet driving crowd may need to get off their blessed assurance and get a little more involved. We all know the Edmund Burke quote about how evil prevails, but you may not be familiar with the equally powerful Billy Graham quote: “When a brave man takes a stand, the spines of others are often stiffened.”
Are you standing yet?
