Populist European leaders met in Poland to discuss strategies for taking national sovereignties back from the European Union.
On Saturday, leaders like France’s Marine Le Pen and Poland’s ruling
party leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski met to declare their desires to
cooperate in the EU Parliament. Previously, the different nations’
populist parties operated within their own borders to demand reclamation
of sovereignty from the EU superstructure.
However more recently, they have been meeting to strategize on
policies where they agree and show a united block in Europe against
further intrusion. According to the leaders, the ultimate sovereignty
lies in the people’s of Europe, and not the EU.
“It is not the commissioners. It is not the administration. It is not
the bureaucrats. It is not the directors in the European Commission who
will decide how we should live,” said Member of the European Parliament
Tomasz Poreba. “This is to be decided by sovereign governments that
wish to cooperate with these institutions at the European level.”
In the meantime, party leaders are expected to meet every two months
to keep cooperation and a united front of opposition to further EU
encroachment into their nations.
