Here at the sports desk located somewhere below decks of the Good Pirate Ship RedState, we are presently wallowing in nostalgia for a bygone era. You know, the one where if a game had been scheduled, nothing short of an act of God would prevent it from taking place? Now, all it takes is some positive COVID tests, and no matter how asymptomatic those involved may be, everything gets shut down.
A couple of days ago, we detailed how the rapidly ascending number of athletes testing positive for COVID despite most being vaccinated is once again proving that the jab is jive in terms of effectiveness. Now the NFL, the unquestioned high roller of sports, is postponing games.
The league announced Friday that Saturday’s game between the Las Vegas Raiders and the Cleveland Browns has been moved to Monday, while Sunday’s meetings between the Washington Football Team and the Philadelphia Eagles, and the Seattle Seahawks and the Los Angeles Rams have been moved to Tuesday.
Elsewhere, in college basketball games are being canceled outright.
At least 20 men’s basketball games and 36 women’s basketball games have been canceled or postponed this season because of COVID-19 protocols as of Friday afternoon. It is a number that seems sure to grow as the nation grapples with a surge in coronavirus cases.
The NHL is piling up games needing to be rescheduled.
There have been 20 games postponed this season, including the Boston Bruins at the Montreal Canadiens scheduled for Saturday. It has not been rescheduled.
And let’s not forget the NBA.
As of Thursday evening, there were at least 39 players — roughly 8% of the league’s total player roster — from at least 13 different teams known to be in the league’s protocols. Chicago had a league-high eight players known to be in protocols, one more than Brooklyn. (James) Harden and (Giannis) Antetokounmpo both entered the protocols earlier this week.
Did I mention that the jab is jive?
At some point in time, the sheer amount of money involved in professional sports, and for that matter college, is going to start talking in a thunderous voice. It is obvious the “vaccines” aren’t working particularly well, and trying to fix the problem with more doses of the same formulas is sheer insanity. The fine fabulous furry freakout over Omicron, who we’re pretty sure we saw open for Jethro Tull in 1977, falls to pieces when you compare the European and American hysteria to, say, South Africa, where the variant originated and absolutely no one is flipping their lid.
We’re tired of, and from, the doomsday false prophets. Yes, COVID is real. Yes, it can be deadly — especially when not treated properly because doing so might hurt the narrative that Bad Orange Man got it all wrong, particularly when commenting on possible treatments. But it is not an immediate death sentence for one and all, and trying to pile on more of the same stuff and nonsense that hasn’t done a thing to slow its spread is an act that has worn unspeakably thin.
We’ve figured out how to live with endless permutations of the flu, which like COVID can be lethal. Every year there’s a new flu shot that hopefully will vaccinate its recipients against that year’s flu strains. When are we going to do the same with COVID? When will we see genuine pressure on drug manufacturers to come up with COVID shots that actually work and have been thoroughly tested for safety? When will we say enough to useless mask mandates, business-killing restrictions, and socially damaging “preventative measures” against children and adults that prevent nothing? How much more of this garbage will be allowed to continue until someone in authority finally says enough?
And in the course of doing so, says let the games continue as scheduled
