Who knew you could cram that much hubris inside such a tiny little man? On its face, it seems to defy the laws of physics. But what do I know? I do not represent science.
Anthony Fauci, on the other hand, is the modern-day Lorax, and not just because they’re about the same height. See, Anthony Fauci speaks for science, and woe unto anyone who dares question him.
He’s the science whisperer.
The Congressman from the Commonwealth of Science.
He is Science.
And if you criticize Tony Fauci, you are, ipso facto, criticizing science.
Good grief, the hubris of this man.
Some people are capable of maintaining a healthy self-image when thrust into the spotlight. Then there’s Anthony Fauci. All the fawning media has gone to his head like strong drink. He may have started as an obscure lifetime bureaucrat doling out research grants. But look at him now: arrogant, self-important, infallible, beyond reproach, and so full of hubris it oozes from his pores like rancid sweat.
At this point, is there anybody in this country that still gives a damn what Anthony Fauci has to say?
Do you give a damn what Anthony Fauci has to say?
He’s a pint-sized Michael Avenatti in a lab coat — a media-created celebrity who believes he’s untouchable.
Fauci didn’t go on “Face the Nation” in his role as public health “expert.” He went on “Face the Nation” to “well-oh-yeah” at the people who prick his ego.
Fauci isn’t angry at Rand Paul or Ted Cruz because they are factually wrong; he’s angry at them because they know he is fallible. After nearly two years of slobbering, unquestioning reverence, Fauci has come to expect it from everyone. And when he doesn’t get it, he gets angry and defensive.
I once wrote of Hillary Clinton that there are perils in believing your own propaganda.
This is the mistake Anthony Fauci made last year. Like Andrew Cuomo, Fauci was elevated by the media because the media needed a yin to Trump’s yang. They needed an anti-Trump. Like a scorned woman looking for a rebound boyfriend, the media glommed onto Fauci for no other reason than to make Trump jealous and resentful.
Fauci made the same mistake Andrew Cuomo made. He thought their slobbering devotion was authentic and it went to his head. It filled him with so much hubris he now believes that He is Science.
Cuomo’s fall from grace should be a cautionary tale for Tony Fauci. But it takes humility to learn from a cautionary tale. So don’t expect Tony to learn a damn thing.
