As RedState reported some days ago, the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals has placed a stay on Joe Biden’s ridiculously dictatorial and likely unconstitutional vaccine mandate for private businesses. The White House isn’t slowing down, though. On Sunday, US Surgeon General Vivek Murthy left the door open for more mandates even as the current one hangs in legal limbo.
Today brought more defiance as well, with the Biden administration telling private companies they should ignore the implications of the court’s ruling and implement the vaccine mandates anyway. This per CNBC.
The White House on Monday said businesses should move forward with President Joe Biden’s vaccine and testing requirements for private businesses, despite a federal appeals court ordering a temporary halt to the rules.
“People should not wait,” White House Deputy Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters during a briefing. “They should continue to move forward and make sure they’re getting their workplace vaccinated.”
The mingling of private businesses and government has always been a sore point for many conservatives, and the line between the two has been almost completely erased under Joe Biden. We’ve seen examples of that with the pushing of woke ideology at the federal level making its way into the corporate world, but the culmination of our new quasi-oligarchy has truly come in response to COVID-19.
For the better part of a year, crushing government mandates dictated when businesses could open, how many people they could serve, and everything in between. That kind of power is not given up easily, and Biden clearly has no intention of backing off. To some extent, he’s being enabled by major corporations that have taken the easy way out with cowardly compliance, believing the government can protect them while handicapping their competition via federal regulation. That’s the oligarchy part of this, but it goes further than that.
The word fascism comes to mind when talking about an economic system whereby nearly all-powerful government executives dictate policy to private companies while picking winners and losers. Whether Biden’s approach checks every box to meet the definition, it’s certainly fair to call him fascistic in nature. He seems to thrive off of cosplaying as a king, telling businesses what to do without any care for legality or morality.
And as long as those businesses are willing to listen, why would he stop? That’s really the lesson here. Biden is a terrible president, but he’s only able to do what he does because of a compliant corporate class that thinks they can position themselves as lords over the serfs.
More libertarian-minded individuals may brush that off as the cost of doing business in an ostensibly free market, but I personally think it’s extremely damaging to society. Tyranny is tyranny no matter how it’s packaged, and these mandates are a nonsensical encroachment on the basic liberties of individuals. In the end, people are going to have to send a message, not just to the government, but to corporate America that enough is enough.
