‘The Marine Corps Taught Me Not To [Mess] Around’: Veteran Absolutely Stuffs Armed Would-Be Robber, Sends Accomplices Running

A Marine veteran recently leaped into action to thwart an attempted armed robbery at a convenience store in Yuma, Arizona.

The veteran, whose name was not revealed, happened to be standing in line at the cash register when two would-be robbers entered the premises, while one alleged accomplice waited outside the store. One of them held a handgun, which he raised and pointed at the store clerk upon entering.

“ZERO FEAR: When this Yuma, AZ veteran saw some criminals pop in guns high — he didn’t wait for things to potentially go south,” journalist Zach Crenshaw tweeted Oct. 21. “‘The Marine Corp taught me not to [mess] around,’ he later said.”

The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) released a statement indicating that it had been dispatched to respond to the incident, which took place at a Chevron gas station. Police found the suspected gunman already detained by another customer identified as a Marine Corps veteran.

“Upon arrival, Deputies learned of three suspects entering the Chevron, one of them armed with a handgun. The armed suspect walked next to a store customer while pointing the weapon toward the cashier when the customer acted immediately and disarmed him,” the statement reads. “When Deputies contacted the customer, who previously served in the United States Marine Corps, and asked how he was able to take control of the situation, he stated, ‘The Marine Corp taught me not to [mess] around.'”

Two other suspects fled the scene, according to a report from FOX 10 Phoenix. The suspect in custody, a juvenile, was “booked into the Yuma County Juvenile Justice Center for alleged armed robbery and aggravated assault.”
