The Biden administration offered an apology to Haitian migrants who stormed across the U.S. border by saying border agents acted too harshly. While on an official visit to Haiti on Friday, U.S. National Security Council Senior Director for the Western Hemisphere, Juan Gonzalez, said border agents behaved too severely towards Haitian migrants   recently.

“I want to say that all of us saw the images of the treatment of Haitians at our border and I want to say that that it was an injustice, that it was wrong and I want to apologize to the people of Haiti,” he stated. “That is not how our border officials or the Department of Homeland Security behaves and the Secretary of Homeland Security, immediately upon seeing those images, called for an investigation into the treatment of Haitians migrants.”

Gonzalez added the U.S. was partnering with Mexico to address the issue of illegal immigration. He added the Biden administration has been looking into expanding the mode by which Haitians can legally enter the U.S.

Gonzalez went on to say”…the United States is working with Mexico and our partners in the region to advance an immigration system that not just uses enforcement, but that also establishes legal pathways and invests in the root causes of migrations from Haiti and other parts of the region.”

Gonzalez’s comments come amid a fake news report, which incorrectly said border agents in Del Rio, Texas used whips against Haitian migrants who were attempting to enter the U.S. illegally. Although a subsequent investigation debunked the false claims, the Biden administration has continued to its attacks against these agents.
