PBS Pundits Downplay 9/11 Terror Attacks in Attempt to Smear Conservatives

PBS, a taxpayer-funded left-wing activist media organization, had a rather interesting discussion on the eve of the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. During the broadcast on Friday, the PBS NewsHour crew took the opportunity to commemorate the attack by pretending it wasn’t all that bad.

Media activist Jonathan Capehart said he thinks “MAGA and the domestic terror threat is much more worrisome than any foreign threat we could face.”

David Brooks agreed with Capehart’s brilliant assessment.

The conversation began by discussing the election of former President Barack Obama and current President Joe Biden, asserting that they were “giant” steps forward. Capehart said:

“I think that, in these 20 years, just to add on to what David was just talking about, we have seen a lot of what I think of as one step — one giant step forward, and then two giant steps back. One giant step forward was the election of Barack Obama as president of the United States, first Black president.”

He continued:

“But a huge step back was the election of Donald Trump as president. Another huge, huge step forward, the election of Joe Biden as president of the United States. Another huge step forward, marriage equality. But another huge step back, to my mind, one was the fact that, even though Donald Trump lost the election, he got 15 — 12 million more votes than he did in 2016. So it just highlights the divisions within the country.”

At that point, the anchors pivoted to the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol building. Capehart referenced a statement made by PBS media activist Carlos Lozada, who pointed out the irony that one of the planes on Sept. 11 was intended to crash into the Capitol and that nearly 20 years later, the Capitol was assaulted by pro-Trump rioters. “That was, to my mind, the ultimate step back. And to your point about the world turning away from democracy, we have that issue here at home right now,” Capehart said.

John Yang responded, asking if Capehart believed “that other forces have changed politics more since 9/11 than 9/11.”

Capehart responded:

“Oh, I think so. I think MAGA and the domestic terror threat is much more worrisome than any foreign threat we could face.”

The PBS propaganda team is only one of several who have pretended the Jan. 6 riots were worse than the 9/11 terrorist attacks, which killed nearly 3,000 Americans and permanently altered domestic and international politics for decades. Perhaps the fact that the attacks happened 20 years ago has made the hard left comfortable with downplaying the severity of the catastrophe.

By asserting that a group of unarmed rioters ransacking the Capitol building is worse than the brutal murders of thousands of Americans, they are essentially diminishing the significance of the event, which also resulted in two bloody wars. It is similar to how they downplay the experience of those who suffered during the Holocaust by comparing people with whom they disagree with Nazis.

The reason they play these games is simple: They don’t care about the victims of 9/11. They are more concerned with a government building being assaulted than with the people who lost their lives to a terrorist attack. Political expediency is the name of the game.

If the Capitol had been assaulted by people wearing Black Lives Matter shirts, they wouldn’t dare compare it to 9/11. This demonstrates an uncomfortable reality: the hard left will always put politics before people.
