There’s a scene in “Mad Men” when Bert Cooper tells Don Draper: “Sacagawea carried a baby on her back all the way to the Pacific Ocean. And somewhere that baby thinks he discovered America.”
I’ve watched “Mad Men” tons of times over the last few years, and last week when I watched that scene, the first thing that popped into my head is “Sacagawea’s baby sounds like Kamala Harris.”
And it really does, doesn’t it?
For her entire political career, Kamala has been carried by others. Nothing about her climb to power was self-propelled. Not one thing.
She is Sacagawea’s baby – just along for the ride while others do the work.
And like Sacagawea’s baby, Kamala thinks she is the author of her own political fortunes.
This is why, despite nobody thinking it was a good idea, Kamala tossed her hat into the 2020 race. So convinced was she that her political trajectory was self-propelled, she really did believe that she could, on her own volition, secure the Democrat nomination.
Kamala’s 2020 run for the White House would be like Sacagawea pulling the baby down off her back and telling it to lead the way for the remainder of expedition.
It didn’t take long for “Kamala For the People” to get lost in the weeds, making one wrong turn after another.
Kamala was so tremendously bad at standing on her own that her campaign sputtered like a wet fart before the end of 2019. Democrat voters were so indifferent to her, she rang in 2020 as a “former Democrat Presidential candidate.”
I mean, for crying out loud, she planned to have California’s far-left governor Gavin Newsom fly to Iowa of all places to campaign with her. That’s how bad she is at this. The only thing that saved her from that particular humiliation is she dropped out the race the day after she announced Newsom was coming.
That was December 3, 2019 – two months before Iowa.
And yet.
Here we are with Kamala “Hyena” Harris a heartbeat away from the presidency — not through her own wits and savvy, but because Joe Biden hoisted her onto his back like Sacagawea’s baby and carried her all the way to the White House.
This is why when people say Kamala is really the one in charge of the Biden Administration I chuckle.
No she isn’t.
The woman can’t get anywhere without someone else carrying her. Her face-plant Presidential campaign is proof of that. Nothing about Kamala’s rise has been self-propelled. Nothing. From Willie Brown to Joe Biden, Kamala has been riding on the backs of others for over 25 years.
[Insert joke about Kamala on her own back here.]
Left to her own devices, Kamala would be some unknown cog in the California Democrat machine.
Which, when you get right down to the ooey-gooey center, is exactly why the people managing Joe Biden selected her to be his VP. They want someone whose only hope for advancement is through the effort of others. No doubt they see Kamala Harris as pliable, cooperative, and completely dependent on the people carrying her.
And they want to be the ones doing the carrying.
Problem is, like Sacagawea’s baby thinking he discovered America, Kamala Harris doesn’t believe she is the pliable, cooperative type. She doesn’t believe she’s being carried. Instead, she thinks it’s all her doing.
And when they pull the trigger on Operation 25th Amendment and she is installed as President, Kamala will believe that she got to the Oval Office through the strength of her own political savvy.
Power is a drug. And there is nobody more powerful than the President of the United States. So even though she was chosen for her malleability, that power will effect Kamala like PCP. She’ll start swinging her weight around as if she isn’t strapped to someone else’s back. And it will only be a matter of time before she does something that completely humiliates her — something far worse than thinking Gavin freaking Newsom could help her win Iowa.
In a lot of ways, as I’ve said before, Kamala is Obama in a pantsuit. But there is one gigantic difference. Kamala lacks the political savvy and charisma of Obama. That’s not surprising. Having never had to stand on her own two feet, she’s never had any reason to hone those skills.
And let’s just say she doesn’t come by them naturally.
Obama knew he was a figurehead. He knew the game. He knew he was being carried. And that was perfectly fine with him.
But Kamala doesn’t have the savvy or political chops to understand the game.
So when the power goes to Kamala’s head, she will forget that she is merely a figurehead; she’ll forget the game. And those people who carried her there just might find Kamala difficult to control.
And given just how bad she is at all of this, Kamala Harris in control is a recipe for disaster.
Not for Kamala, but for us.
She will take the entire country into the weeds, making one wrong turn after another, until the country is irretrievably lost.
