Hollywood Loses Its Mind Over Texas Gov. Greg Abbott Lifting Mask Mandate

Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas announced on Tuesday that the Lone Star State will lift its mask mandate and allow all businesses to reopen by March 10, a decision that should have been put forth months prior. The celebrity elites lost their minds on Twitter, in a predictable fashion, lamenting that Texas will embrace freedom and not stay in lockdown mode until the end of time.

“With the medical advancements of vaccines and antibody therapeutic drugs, Texas now has the tools to protect Texans from the virus,” said Abbott. “We must now do more to restore livelihoods and normalcy for Texans by opening Texas 100 percent. Make no mistake, COVID-19 has not disappeared, but it is clear from the recoveries, vaccinations, reduced hospitalizations, and safe practices that Texans are using that state mandates are no longer needed.”

“Today’s announcement does not abandon safe practices that Texans have mastered over the past year,” Abbott continued. “Instead, it is a reminder that each person has a role to play in their own personal safety and the safety of others. With this executive order, we are ensuring that all businesses and families in Texas have the freedom to determine their own destiny.”

The announcement from the Texas governor comes after nearly a year of various lockdown restrictions, whereas Florida lifted its restrictions in May. Gov. Kristi Noem of South Dakota never instituted a statewide lockdown. Soon after Texas announced its executive order, a number of celebrities, who possess little-to-no policy expertise, voiced their disapproval.

“To all the leftists crying because Texas and Mississippi have announced they will resume FREEDOM — did you know that you are still welcome to stay in your home all day and double mask? You don’t need a government mandate to be a paranoid recluse,” Daily Wire host Candace Owens tweeted in response to the flurry of leftist rage.

Gov. Gavin Newsom of California, who is the target of a recall petition that has reached more than 1.8 million signatures, voiced his disapproval of Abbott’s decision, only to get dunked on by Federalist staff writer Jordan Davidson.

“Absolutely reckless,” Newsom said.

“This you, bro?” Davidson tweeted, along with the photograph that went viral of Newsom dining, maskless and surrounded by other people, at a Michelin-star restaurant while enforcing strict lockdown restrictions in November.
