One of the things President Trump has been trying to do for the last several years is bring to an end that mission creep masquerading as a war in Afghanistan. For nearly twenty years, two generations of fighting men and women have been stuck in a shithole fighting for … well … something or other. Nobody ever seems to give a reason why we’re still there.
And now the usual suspects who love to bang the war drums for your loved ones to go off to some shithole on the other side of the planet are really super angry that President Trump seeks to withdraw thousands of US troops from Iraq and Afghanistan.
Chief among them, Chickenhawk Mitt Romney. That Senator from Utah famous for his military service and acts of valor during the war in …
… wait.
That’s right. Mitt Romney has never served this country in uniform.
Every time Chickenhawk Mitt talks tough, I remind myself that he’s the doofus who created a fictional Twitter account under the name Pierre Delecto in order to troll anti-Romney tweeters. Kinda puts his tough guy routine into perspective, wouldn’t you say?
Anyroad.
Now I know that some members of the ResistanceLOL love to point out that President Trump never served in uniform either. And that’s true. Then again, President Trump is the first President in ages who didn’t start a pointless war.
Barack Obama never served a day in the military either. But how many Americans died fighting his wars? How many civilians were killed in his drone strikes?
If Chickenhawk Mitt actually won in 2012, I am certain like Obama before him, he wouldn’t have hesitated sending US troops to die in some godforsaken place on the other side of the planet.
Seems its always the politicians who never served in uniform that bang the war drums the loudest.
Then again, for many in Washington, war is its own reward.
What possible “national security interests” could the United States of America have in Afghanistan in 2020?
Aren’t there more pressing national security interests closer to home? You know, like securing our borders.
Speaking of which, Chickenhawk Mitt voted against President Trump’s emergency funding for a wall on our Southern border. Does anybody actually believe Mitt is super concerned about our national security interests in Afghanistan?
For crap’s sake. Can anyone adequately explain why we’re even in Afghanistan and Iraq anymore?
Bin Laden is dead. ISIS is destroyed.
So what in Lucifer’s reach are we still doing there?
Romney might as well have put out a statement saying “Oceania has always been at war with Eurasia.”
And claiming that bringing our troops home is “premature” and “hasty” after we’ve been there for two decades seems a bit rich, don’t you think? How much blood and treasure is enough for these people?
Then again it isn’t surprising that politicians who have so little regard for American treasure show just as little regard for American blood.
