The Most Easily Manipulated Man in the World

You gotta hand it to the New York Times. They can spot the most easily manipulated quicker than a lion spots a wounded gazelle.

It’s a good thing I don’t mind saying “I told you so” because, well, I told you so.

In my post about the NYT’s Bolton “Bombshell,” I said that the article had a target market of four people – namely the Republican Senators that are the most easily manipulated.

And, well, not one hour after telling you that, I saw this on Twitter:

You gotta hand it to the New York Times.  They can spot the most easily manipulated quicker than a lion spots a wounded gazelle.

They knew they could get the attention of idiots like Mitt Romney with this “leaked” Bolton manuscript story.  They knew it.

And because he is the most easily manipulated man in the world, Mitt Romney took the bait.

As did Susan Collins.

This was the New York Times’ plan all along.

Fact is, the press and the Democrats have been focusing on Romney, Collins, and Murkowski since the House first voted to impeach.

As I mentioned back in December in my column “Is Nancy providing time to influence the jury?” Twenty-four hours after the House impeached, the Washington Post published an article titled “This is Mitt Romney’s moment” that included this puke-inducing passage:

History is knocking on Romney’s door. This is his moment to step away from a president who holds him in contempt and to speak for principle — by insisting that the Senate conduct an actual trial and weigh the House’s allegations that Trump abused power and obstructed Congress. This simple stand for an impartial trial (if backed by several more brave Republicans) would restore sanity to this process.

It’s odd to me that Mitt Romney doesn’t seem aware of the fact that he’s being manipulated.

I blame it on hubris if you want to know the truth.

He will happily play Step-n-Fetch-it for the media because it gets him facetime on CNN and MSNBC – not to mention fawning articles about how “principled” he is from people who have no principles.

The only silver lining here is the Easily Manipulated Caucus of the Republican Party is a hell of a lot smaller than it was four years ago.

Unfortunately, Mitt Romney is doing all he can to make sure it remains alive and well.

So congrats, New York Times. I guess you can call this “mission accomplished.”
