Lots of people are beginning to notice that maybe Nancy Pelosi, who until recently has been respected on the Hill for her political savvy, has lost a step or 10.
One of those people is Constitutional Law Professor Jonathan Turley, who is a well-respected authority on legal matters and the good ole Constitution of The United States. He has written numerous articles in publications all over the fruited plain and has appeared on every news channel on the cable dial.
So if someone with Turley’s pedigree says you stepped in some political poop, you probably did.
According to Fox News…
Constitutional law professor Jonathan Turley laid out a sweeping indictment of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., arguing that her impeachment strategy backfired and gave Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., the upper hand.“The delay now seems largely driven by a desire to preserve the image of Pelosi as a master strategist despite a blunder of the first order,” Turley wrote in a column titled, “Pelosi’s Blunder: How the House Destroyed its Own Case for Impeachment.”His comments came as Pelosi prepared to transmit articles of impeachment to the Senate, roughly a month after the House approved them. She initially withheld them in an apparent attempt to draw concessions from McConnell. On Wednesday she announced the seven lawmakers who will serve as impeachment managers to prosecute the case against the president at his Senate trial.“There was no reason why Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell would make concessions to get an impeachment that he loathed,” Turley wrote.
I think the Law Nerd just did a MIC DROP on Nancy.
I have admired Nancy in the past just for the ability to hang around near power in a town that will kill you for her seat. She became Speaker in 2007 and lost it in 2011 and then hung around until 2019 to get the gavel back. That is no easy feat.
However, she totally screwed up here letting the Progressive Cheer Squad bully her into doing this impeachment and it has shown. The whole process in the House was a white-hot mess and her holding onto the impeachment for a month while she told the Senate Majority Leader how she wanted it done was a big mistake.
That might have worked if Schumer was in charge but with Mitch McConnell calling the shots that is a no ah-ah. McConnell is every bit a shrewd politician as Nancy used to be and won’t be told what to do by the other chamber.
As Turley says, Mitch was not in love with this idea, and why would he do what Nancy wanted? They aren’t married, for cripes sake.
So before the opening ceremonies begin we can observe that so far when it comes to a couple of political animals the score rests at…
Mitch -1
Nancy – 0
