Jon Voight Tells ‘The Hollywood Reporter’ Democrats Have Left America, But They May Have Left A Lot More Than That

Oscar winner and 4-time nominee Jon Voight is at it again, saying things entirely out of step with much of Hollywood.

In the recent past, he’s surely swollen some Tinseltown veins by declaring Donald Trump “the greatest president of this century” and “the greatest president since Abraham Lincoln.”

And in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter — at the premiere of daughter Angelina’s Disney biggie Maleficent: Mistress of Evil — he givesTrump the “higher, higher” treatment accompanied by a big “lower, lower” to Democrats.

In fact, he believes Dems have totally left America:
“I’m a big supporter of our president, and I feel that what has happened with the Democratic party is something that I’d never thought I’d see happen. This is not the Democratic party of John Kennedy, who I was in support of. They had many heroes in the Democratic party. They have no heroes today. There’s a lot of slander and name-calling and lying that’s going on and passing itself off as news. This is my opinion. That’s where I stand, and I don’t like it. Somebody has to stand up and say that and punch back at that nonsense. This is not America. The Democratic Party doesn’t represent America anymore.”
I was just saying something similar last week — JFK was a man with a lot to say. He was a leader with a vision, full of ideas he believed would better the nation. And he went to bat for those.

It seems the party has devolved into little more than a collection of breathtakingly absurd jabs at Donald Trump. For what do they stand? What are their superior ideals? Why aren’t they trying to sell them?

Thanks to the above, they’re destined for a 2020 loss.

Jon thinks so, too:
“Donald Trump is going to win the presidency once again, and this is going to be proven to be nonsense just as the two years with [the Mueller Report] and millions of dollars wasted and has taken those people in the House who are Democrats away from doing the business of the people.”
The legendary actor also discussed last month’s controversy involving Eric McCormack and Debra Messing, who appeared to champion a blacklisting of Trump supporters in entertainment (herehere, and here):
“The Left was so concerned about the Hollywood Ten during the ‘50s, but they are not at all concerned with the blacklist today and people losing jobs.”
He wants to see some within the party resist the tide and save it from irrelevance:
“They are very outspoken about it, and they attack anybody who is for Trump or who is for the Republican Party. The Democratic Party has been undermined and overtaken, and I wish it could recoup itself and that there could be people who would stand up for the Democratic Party that we have known and we have counted on, and there are not anybody in that group who is standing up and protecting it. They are falling in.”
I must admit, I’m baffled by the Dems’ apparent lack of attention to 2020. It looks as if they’ve all but given up the presidency for at least another 5 years, in exchange for hope of ousting The Donald via other means. But if they succeed with impeachment, what does that get them? President Mike Pence?? And his face-off with a weak opponent for the next term, in front of a voter base that’s been galvanized by a partisan eviction of the guy they elected?

Have they left America? Irrespective of that, they seem to have left governance.
