Police say that a woman, Lachelle Hudgins, was just parking in her reserved spot when she noticed a group of suspicious-looking characters by a mailbox. Five of the youths came over to her car before she could get the window rolled up. She reached for her gun and fired the only two bullets she had, hitting one of the thugs, which led to the entire group running away as fast as they could go. The injured assailant was found later near the apartment complex, and he was taken to the hospital, where he had surgery. He is expected to live.
The incident took place at an apartment complex in Houston, Texas, at approximately 2:30 am on Tuesday, according to a report by Washington Post.
Kese Smith, a Houston police spokesperson, stated that as 28-year-old Hudgins was pulling into her parking space and was trying to roll up her windows when she noticed a group of five or six people near the mailbox. They are believed to be between the ages of 15 and 20.
While Hudgins was in her vehicle in her parking space, five of the youths started approaching her. Hudgins says there were armed.
“I couldn’t do anything except scream,” said Hudgins as she described the incident. But, when one of the men tried to reach through her open car window, she took action and reached for her gun.
She only had two shots in her gun, and she fired them both in the direction of the suspects. Hudgins shot one of the youths.
“It was all I had in my gun,” said Hudgins. “I shot until I couldn’t shoot anymore.”
“I saved my life,” she added.
