Mae Jemison Trains for Her Space Shuttle Flight.

At 10:23 a.m. EDT Sept. 12, 1992, Mae Jemison, the first black woman in space, launched aboard Space Shuttle Endeavour for the STS-47 mission. In this image, she had just completed participating in crew egress training for the mission during the Terminal Countdown Demonstration Test. Jemison and Sharon McDougle, then a spacesuit technician, walk away from the orbiter at the end of the crew training.
