Conditions in Some Parts of the U.S. Suggest It is Time to Invoke the Insurrection Act

We should never allow the complexity of America’s contemporary problems to confuse, discourage, or overwhelm us. Correcting our present course and charting our way forward is best achieved by aligning our approach and policies with timeless wisdom and principles understood and codified by the founding fathers. It turns out that the Constitution provides the framework, specifically the Article II, Section 2, and supremacy clause of Article 6, to put down the current city and state rebellions in California, Oregon, Illinois and some 12 other states claiming “sanctuary” status.

Another powerful source of wisdom and insight into our contemporary problems is George Washington’s Farewell Address of 1797. Here we find Washington uniquely prescient in five critical areas that are now the bane of our contemporary problems:

  • the likelihood that the people would fail to be adequately informed and educated to discern the truth and fulfill the duties and responsibility of citizenship.
  • the rise of political parties and hyper-partisan factionalism that would lead to "cunning,
  • ambitious, and unprincipled men"; manipulating public opinion, fostering discord, and prioritizing party loyalty over the common good.
  • the erosion of checks and balances through usurpation of power by one of the three branches of government, notably the judicial branch
  • foreign entanglements that provide avenues for domestic factions to become aligned with foreign powers
  • the decline of morality and religion, notably Christianity, deemed essential to maintaining civility, public virtue, individual freedom, and the free governance of a constitutional republic.

Washington cautioned that excessive partisanship could lead to political parties or groups with diametrically opposed interests--prioritizing their own agendas over the common good, which would also lead to division and animosity among citizens. He specifically warned that factions could make the nation vulnerable to foreign manipulation, as external powers might exploit internal divisions to influence U.S. policy. Washington emphasized the importance of national border integrity through his focus on national unity, sovereignty, and the rule of law.

Washington’s assertion 230 years ago that, "The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge, natural to party dissension, ... is itself a frightful despotism" describes the reality that now exists in 2025. We have unreconcilable hostility between political parties, and “judicial despotism,” which is now undermining President Trump’s popular mandate to deport illegal aliens We are witnessing persecution of Christians and Jews, brought into full relief in aftermath of the assassination of Charlie Kirk--a uniquely likeable and capable young national Christian leader.

The chaos and lawlessness that resulted from four years of an open border policy is on display in the daily news. And it is time that people recognize that the open border policy of the prior administration was an act of seditious conspiracy that requires correction. Consider the three most plausible reasons why the United States was flooded with some 15-20 million illegal aliens: 1) To change the voting demographics with the objective to increase likely Democrat voters; 2) To advance a Cloward-Piven strategy of bankrupting the United States by radically increasing costs for social welfare spending born by the federal government; and 3) To enlarge the “fifth columns” within the U.S. from foreign entrants, including members of Hezbollah, Tren de Aragua, MS-13, Barrio 18, the Sinaloa Cartel and the red-green alliance of communists and radical Islamists within the country, to be positioned to engage in a range of active measures against the United States—from militant attacks on law enforcement agencies such as Immigration and Customs Enforcement ICE, the DEA and DHS to more destructive terrorist attacks.

Dealing with all the possible scenarios that America faces requires circumspection and measured responses. But dramatically stepped-up actions are needed that include shutting down funding sources of the insurrectionists and increased arrests of those planning or being engaged in life-threatening and destructive behavior. America is now in the early stages of civil war, albeit concentrated more in urban areas than rural areas.

The US Constitution and federal statutes provide the government, particularly the Executive branch, with specific authority to address insurrections, rebellions, or domestic violence that threaten public order and national security. These powers are designed for extreme circumstances and are subject to legal and constitutional limits, including the Posse Comitatus Act, Insurrection Act, suspension of the writ of habeas corpus, and deployment of the National Guard or federal forces. These are often invoked during "wartime"scenarios broadly interpreted to include civil unrest or rebellion, which may or may not involve international conflict. The most extreme measure, the declaration of martial law is not explicitly authorized in the Constitution and is a last resort because it involves the suspension of civilian government.

President Trump has already mobilized the National Guard to suppress insurrection in select states and cities, which is justified under the Constitution and federal statutes such as Title 10. His next move should be to invoke the Insurrection Act, with severe penalties for attacks on federal law enforcement officers, such as ICE. Federalization of the Insurrection Act also allows for scaling up by integration with regular armed forces, by passing Posse Comitatus restrictions for law enforcement.

The Constitution's Article IV, Section 4, obligates the federal government to protect states from invasion and domestic violence. As Commander-in-Chief, under Article II, Section 2, the President has broad authority over federal forces in dealing with renegade states and cities. There is no substitute for executive power in dealing with threats to national security.

The majority of Americans are behind President Trump. The purpose of invoking the Insurrection Act is to restore law and order and protect American citizens from widening conflict. Properly executed, the Insurrection Act can bring a quicker end to hostilities and reduce property destruction, injury, and loss of life from what can ensue from lesser measures.

The Democrats Are Not as They Appear

Democrats are not simply anti-American;
they pursue policies and programs that are fundamentally anti-human.

There is a fundamental misconception about what is happening politically in this country, and it may be helpful to reconsider a particular assumption that is creating cognitive dissonance throughout American culture. That assumption is that Democrats are a political party. Consequently, every measure of their behavior seems unexplainable. The assumption is incorrect. They have accelerated their devolution as a political entity over the last decade and have now arrived at a stable, if not entirely American, end state. The leaders, elected officeholders, and members have now been completely subsumed into a Communist Death Cult. The recent past is only a prologue for what is to come.

First, Democrats are not simply anti-American; they pursue policies and programs that are fundamentally anti-human. They began shifting from liberalism, enabling questionable policies clothed in good intentions, to full-blown Marxism, and have completely embraced the model of the New Soviet Man. This principle is nothing less than the murder of human nature. It is the complete departure from the reality of Man since time immemorial, and this is the explanation for their support of sexual deviance, transgenderism, and the unwillingness to recognize the two sexes. For the ideologically pure, murdering human nature necessarily requires the logical extension of the destruction of all distinctions, not simply matters of class division. Moreover, the fullest expression of this ideal is embodied in the figurative and literal murder of the person. Hence, the widespread embrace of “cancel culture,” “weaponization of the legal system,” secret surgical gender reassignment, euthanasia, and abortion. These and other policies all fall within the natural progression of this religion.

Second, the desire to eliminate national borders, although connected to the internationalist character of Revolutionary Marxism, is ultimately expressed in an unlimited immigration focused especially on seeding criminal elements throughout the nation. This would effectuate the death of America by literally killing Americans and, through these means, create chaos that spirals into the justifiable exercise of expansive authoritarian political power, or a complete loss of confidence in American institutions. Death is not a bug in this system; it is a feature. The Communist bloodlust is evident throughout global history, and the present circumstances are no different. Why are courts obstructing the removal of murderers, rapists, gang members, and every form of social deviance expressed by people who have broken the law to get into this country? Because quite simply, these judges are completely committed to this program of destruction. For those who are integrally involved in the leadership of this entity, both the political process and the rule of law are completely meaningless. They pursue their objectives as a means to the exercise of power. The notions of democratic process are irrelevant except to the extent that they can use and abuse these mechanisms to acquire and exercise unlimited power.

Third, we are facing a religious cult. Their God is power, and the government is a means to acquiring that power. However, their efforts are not limited to only one sector of society. The cancer of this scourge has spread to virtually every corner of society. Corruption is endemic and is not subject to normal political considerations; in fact, we are and remain only one election away from complete subjugation, as the COVID-19 farce illustrated. That series of events was a dry run for total Christian suppression. This cult will broach no opposition, and the principle of liberty of conscience is dead for them. They preach absolute tolerance, which is the metastasized afterbirth of the erroneous notion of religious toleration. The propaganda of religious tolerance is bound by a logical inconsistency. It conveys the appearance of freedom but is built on “tolerance,” a word that by definition conveys the allowance of a belief by someone or something that has the power to allow it and the power to disallow it. This is completely antithetical to the historical ideal of religious liberty.

Finally, this is a spiritual conflict; it is neither political nor material. The most important truth is the recognition that our present circumstances are so complex that only God can discern the good from the evil, and the quintessential responsibility of Christians is prayer for all those who presently appear to be their enemies. A political or material response is wholly inadequate to the task at hand, for the hearts and minds are now captive to a spirit of deception, and a spiritual offensive is the only hope for recovery. The coercion of political influence or power accomplishes only a temporary and resentful result, the likes of which will surely spiral into expanding violence, the seeds of which are only now apparent in vitro. Tens of millions of our fellow Americans have believed a lie and are suffering an existence of absolute confusion; this is a spiritual warfare, and our tools must be spiritual. Every Christian must focus on the invisible things to effect a result in the world of things that are clearly seen.

The Schumer Shakedown

It’s not the “Schumer shutdown”—it’s the “Schumer shakedown.”  Chuck Schumer, Shoo-mer (D-NY), whose name sounds like something you don’t want to step in, speaking on MSNBC stated that the idea that Democrats shut down the government to give illegal aliens healthcare is a “total, absolute, effing lie.”

Yet, California Democrat Ro Khanna stated on Mornings with Maria, “The amount of money that is actually going towards people who are undocumented is such a small portion of the Medicaid cuts or the Affordable Care Act….”  So, Mr. Schumer, who is the liar?

How much money is a “small portion” to Rep. Khanna?  Majority Leader Steve Scalise says it’s $200,000,000,000 (billion) for 1.4 million illegal aliens.  Not a lot of money for these ruthless, money-laundering, lawfare exploiting, tax-robbing politicians to spend on non-American citizens, but it is for us.  Democrats think it’s not a lot of money when you compare it to the $1.5 trillion they want to spend.  That is the real reason the Democrats have shut down the government—they are trying to reclaim finances for their pet projects, like restoring 2.3 million ineligible recipients to Medicaid, and funding for NPR and PBS, etc.  The narrative that Republicans want to “end healthcare for millions of Americans” is false! The truth?  Democrats want millions of ineligible recipients to receive healthcare. No wonder President Trump calls them, “radical left lunatics.” Democrats are tacking $1.5 trillion in partisan wish-list spending onto a four-week funding bill while they take vacations continuing to receive their paychecks.

Putting Democrats in charge of taxpayer dollars is like putting pigs in charge of the food pantry.  What do you think pigs will do?  They will gorge themselves until it is all gone, then they will squeal for more, like they are doing right now.     Democrats have become “the spend and tax party,” squealing and gorging themselves, while demanding more from the working taxpayer’s paycheck.

Then you have Hakeem Jeffries.  Every time I say, “Ha-keem,” I feel like I am clearing my throat or something, and then I need to spit.  Ha-keem stated that the cuts to (wasteful) healthcare spending are “immoral.”  Immoral?  Coming from Ha-keem, that is laughable.  It’s surprising that Mr. Jeffries knows the word.  How can anyone who supports killing babies, who supports same sexes to “marry” (defiling marriage), who supports allowing perverted dress-wearing men to enter ladies’ locker rooms and participate in women’s sports, and who supports maiming children in sex-change operations—how could this person ever call anyone, or anything, “immoral”?  He has drifted too far from the plumbline to be allowed to give sermons on morality, or ethics.  Obviously, Mr. Jeffries can pronounce, “immoral,” but has no comprehension of the word “immoral”, or “moral” for that matter.

A friend of mine told me about a colleague he had known in school, who advanced in the ranks of business.  Along the way, it seemed this businessman had looked into a box, and then lowered his standard of ethics.  After telling this scenario to a stoic director at another company, the director responded to my friend, “You know what was in the box, don’t you?”  My friend answered, “No.”  The hardened director said, “Money — money was in the box.”

Do you think that Ha-keem Jeffries and Upchuck Schumer have looked into the box filled with taxpayer money?  Do you think AOC has looked into the box?  Democrats in the Senate are responsible for the Schumer-shutdown by not passing the continuing resolutiona Biden-era budget, which would have allowed the government to remain open while they sort out differences.  Now, numerous federal workers will not receive paychecks until this is resolved, yet all members of Congress will continue to receive their paychecks building to their $174,000/year salary.  I wonder who made that law?

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson sent out a memo titled “Debunking the Democrat’s Shutdown Delusion.”  Johnson states that the government funding is being held “hostage” by Democrats who want extension of COVID-19 pandemic-era Obamacare subsidies.  Hasn’t anyone told the Democrat party that the WHO and the Biden administration ended the emergency declarationconcerning the COVID-19 pandemic on May 11, 2023?  Johnson’s memo points out that Democrats want “$500 million in taxpayer funding to prop up liberal news outlets,” “a $50 billion cut in investments for improving rural health care,” and they want to restore “billions in funding for DEI and climate projects in foreign countries.”  Obviously, American taxpayers should see the need for us to be taxed to pay for screwball DEI policies and loony climate change projects in foreign countries.  What do you think?

Johnson’s memo says,

This disruption is entirely avoidable should Democrats support the responsible solution [that] is on the table… Democrats …alone …bear the blame for using federal workers as pawns in their political games.

The congressman points to the fact that the currently proposed CR is the “same short-term funding extension that virtually all Democrats voted to pass 13 times during the Biden Administration.” Additionally, he notes that by voting to block the CR, Democrats are on record for blocking a program allowing “low-income and Medicare patients to be treated at home rather than in a hospital.”

Furthermore, Johnson states that Democrats say they will not “write a blank check” to Trump’s Administration.  This is a blatant Democrat lie, for the continuing resolution is short-term, extending government funding at current levels, avoiding a shutdown, while it is the Democrats who want to shakedown the American taxpayer with a $1.5 trillion spending spree.

Senator John Kennedy explained that Democrat “lawmakers” were wanting the return of $20 million in foreign aid for such matters as “$4.2 million for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and intersex people in the Western Balkans and Uganda, $3.6 million for pastry cooking classes and dance focus groups for male prostitutes in Haiti, $6 million dollars for media organizations for the Palestinians and $3 million for circumcisions and vasectomies in Zambia.”  Kennedy’s conclusion was, “We’ll give $1.5 trillion when donkeys fly.”

Looking at files of information stored up for article writing, by far the thickest one I have is the file labeled, “dimwitted Democrats.”

Perhaps it is time for President Trump to explain things again to dimwitted Upchuck Schumer, like President Trump did in August, concerning Schumer’s intentional slow-walking of Trump’s appointments to government offices.  Avoiding stepping in it, and clearing his throat, President Trump should again tell Schumer, “go to hell,” and to Ha-keem Jeffries, President Trump should continue the memes, let the Mariachi band play, and even invite Jeffries to the band.

Schumer and Jeffries are extorting our government to try to prop up their unpopular demented ideologies and policies, domestically and worldwide.

So, it’s not the “Schumer shutdown”—it’s the “Schumer shakedown.”

The All American Halftime Show: TPUSA to Counter Super Bowl Halftime Show With Their Own

Charlie Kirk's Turning Point USA has announced that they will be countering Bad Bunny's Super Bowl halftime show with their own, the All American Halftime Show.

"HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT," they posted on X. "It’s true, Turning Point USA is thrilled to announce The All American Halftime Show. Performers and event details coming soon.2.8.2026 http://AMERICANHALFTIMESHOW.COM."

They added a link taking people to a form where they could fill out their information, and what kind of music they would like to see featured at TPUSA's show. This included an "Anything in English" option.

Jack Posobiec, a regular personality at TPUSA events wrote on X, "I've had to keep quiet about this all week And now it's finally official The TPUSA All American Halftime Show is happening."

The headliner for the 2026 Super Bowl halftime show, Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martinez, has been characterized as a "Trump-hater" speaking out against the President's immigration policy and ICE raids, even deciding to skip the United States mainland as a destination for his most recent tour.

Martinez has established that he has no respect for the United States, sitting down for the national anthem just this month, and telling Americans they have "four months to learn Spanish" before his halftime show.

We Now Have a First Look, Release Date for the Highly Anticipated Melania Trump Documentary

RedState

First Lady Melania Trump will provide a behind-the-scenes peek at her life when her highly anticipated documentary, "Melania" gets its theatrical debut at theaters across the country in January.

In a post on X on Thursday from Amazon MGM Studios, it announced that it will "release 'Melania' exclusively in theaters on Friday, January 30 in the U.S. and select territories overseas."

"'Melania' offers unprecedented access to the 20 days leading up to the 2025 Presidential Inauguration — through the eyes of the First Lady-elect herself," the post added.

The announcement included a first look at what to expect in the Amazon documentary, which has promised to take us behind the cameras about the wife of President Donald Trump, who has taken great steps in the past to keep her private life, just that, private.

Melania Takes a Scalp: Dem Strategist Forced to Take Down Episode and Apologize

Melania Sends Liberals Into a Meltdown With Proposed Magazine Cover

The image shared by the studio, which can be seen below, showed a snap of the first lady, in the back of a car, looking out at a tarmac.

Where she is and what this moment is about is unclear, but the expression on her face definitely sends the message: This time around, Melania means business.

A description of the documentary movie from MGM Studios read:

Step inside Melania Trump's world as she orchestrates inauguration plans, navigates the complexities of the White House transition, and reenters public life with her family. With exclusive footage capturing critical meetings, private conversations, and never-before-seen environments, MELANIA showcases Mrs. Trump's return to one of the world's most powerful roles.

The New York Post reported on the news about what movie-goers can expect.

Amazon MGM Studios, which reportedly spent $40 million on the project, promises what it calls a "backstage pass" into Melania's private world as she juggles family, business, and her reprised role in the 20 days leading up to her husband's 2025 inauguration.

The lavishly filmed movie, directed by directed by seasoned Hollywood filmmaker Brett Ratner, spans the worlds of high fashion, geopolitics, and international philanthropy, as former top model Melania prepares for the inauguration and oversees her family's move into the White House residence, for the second time in eight years.

Melania Sends a Message to Haters Amid WSJ Trump-Epstein Drama

The first lady has also spoken about the project, per the outlet.

"Few people have had the opportunity to observe the world through the perspective of an incoming first lady, particularly during the 20 days ahead of the presidential inauguration," says Melania.

"The preparation during this period is extraordinary. As first lady, I oversee every detail with great care, while still managing my family's move, my business and my philanthropic work. These 20 days are where leadership, purpose and precision meet."

The report noted that the movie will provide a glimpse of all three homes of the Trump family--the Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, the White House, and the Trump Tower in New York City. And people will get to see President Trump and their son Barron Trump, along with other members of their family.

Despite haters, Melania became a New York Times bestseller with her memoir "Melania," and this movie will be no exception as there is huge interest in the woman behind the world's most powerful man.

As my RedState colleague Susie Moore reported, Melania will be making some kind of announcement on Friday in the White House Grand Foyer that is sure to get attention. Check back for updates.

From Kindergarten Classrooms to College Campuses, Conservatives Are Beginning to Take Back the Schools

RedState

At the California Young Republican Federation’s recent convention, young conservatives got a provocative discussion on education and school choice from a seasoned panel of leaders.

State Senator Tony Strickland, Orange County Board of Education Trustee Mari Barke, Lakeside Union School District Trustee Andrew Hayes, and Pepperdine University’s School of Public Policy Dean Pete Peterson laid out what’s at stake in America’s schools and what conservatives need to do to protect them.

The message was simple but powerful. Get involved. Attend K–12 school board meetings. Hold school board members accountable. Organize walkouts when needed. Run for office. And as I’ve said before, teach.

If conservatives are serious about reclaiming our schools, we can’t just talk about it. We must show up and participate.

The panelists made a strong case for School Choice and Charter Schools, arguing that giving parents more options forces school districts to perform better and compete for students. It’s a proven way to empower families instead of bureaucrats.

The Now Generation: Inside the California Young Republicans Convention

The discussion also highlighted the political battlefield over school funding. California Gov. Gavin Newsom and President Donald Trump are locked in a fight, each leveraging purse strings to influence education policy.

While Trump and red-state governors use that leverage to drive real reform, Newsom has threatened to cut funding to any California university that aligns with the Trump administration’s higher-ed reforms, showing just how politicized education policy has become.

Against this backdrop, Dean Peterson described what he called a revolution in higher education. He believes today’s young conservatives are living through a cultural shift not seen since the Reagan generation, a moment when young Americans rediscovered their voice, values, and vision for the country.

He pointed to conservative-led reforms across the country that are reshaping universities and restoring balance to the classroom.

In Ohio, Utah, and Florida, new laws now emphasize civics, accountability, and Western civilization. In Ohio, students are required to study "The Federalist Papers" and "The Wealth of Nations." Utah established a civic center at Utah State University to oversee general education. And in Florida, Gov. Ron DeSantis has led the charge against what he calls “woke ideology.”

At the same time, the Trump administration’s Compact for Academic Excellence in Higher Education lays out guiding principles for universities that emphasize defending academic freedom, equality in admissions, institutional neutrality, and fiscal transparency.

In short, it’s about returning higher education to its true purpose: a marketplace of ideas, not indoctrination.

But perhaps the most striking moment of the discussion came when Peterson declared,

“I believe we are witnessing a watershed moment in American education.”

He argued that four cultural flashpoints are driving a national awakening among parents, students, and educators alike:

  1. COVID-19: Parents listening in on remote learning discovered what was really being taught in classrooms.
  2. Post–October 7th Protests: College campuses became flashpoints for radical activism, with rallies openly supporting Hamas.
  3. Education Budgets: Trump and conservative governors have used funding control to advance meaningful policy change.
  4. Charlie Kirk’s Assassination: The shocking assassination of conservative leader Charlie Kirk on a college campus during a debate of ideas underscored just how far ideological conflict has gone.

According to Peterson, these moments have empowered conservatives nationwide to reclaim influence from kindergarten classrooms to college campuses.

That energy carried through the panel’s core message. Don’t just watch from the sidelines. Participate. Show up, take action, and, if necessary, step into the classroom yourself.

Because in the end, our schools aren’t just places of learning. They’re the front lines in the battle for America’s future.

Is This Woke Liberal Columnist Pushing for a Civil War?

File this outpouring of insanity under "Be careful what you wish for."

Tom Nichols is a columnist at "The Atlantic" and a sufferer of terminal, end-stage Trump Derangement Syndrome. He apparently hates President Trump so much that he's willing to see the country come apart, literally, to see the president out of office. He's even to the point where he's talking about the need for a military revolt against the National Command Authority - the president. The Federalist's Beth Brelje has some thoughts:

Tom Nichols, The Atlantic’s columnist and professional Trump quibbler, may be trying to provoke a civil war with his Oct. 7 piece urging the military to ignore any of President Donald Trump’s orders that they don’t like.

Also, Nichols may murder puppies. And he may lean too heavily on the qualifier “may,” used like a safe-word seven times in the piece, as he guesses his way through an anarchist’s fantasy that some readers may mistake for news.

He peppers in Antifa dog whistles, calling Trump and his administration “would-be autocrats,” and calls White House aide Stephen Miller a fascist.

So, he doesn't just have Trump Derangement Syndrome. He hates anyone who's to the political right of Leon Trotsky. I mean, calling Stephen Miller a "fascist?" Bear in mind that "fascist" these days is just a synonym for "doody-head." It's just the latest in the list of terms leftists 1) don't understand, and 2) use as a knee-jerk pejorative which relieves them of the need to actually think about what they're saying.

Here, though, is where Nichols' rambling treads on dangerous ground.

All of his “may” statements are below, and together, they show a clever propagandist’s strategy. He starts by repeating an ominous warning.

“The leaders of the U.S. military may soon face a terrible decision.”

“… top U.S.-military commanders may have to decide whether they will refuse such orders from the commander in chief.”

“… military commanders may soon have to choose between obeying the president and obeying the law.”

After Nichols coaches the troops in insubordination and possible treason, he transitions to some scenarios he cooked up.

“Trump may be tempted to issue orders to the military that will be aimed at suppressing dissent, or disrupting elections, or detaining political figures …”

“[Trump] may even become desperate enough to launch a foreign war …”

Nichols is implying a dichotomy where none exists. President Trump has not issued any illegal orders. Where a judge, for whatever reason, orders a deployment of National Guard troops, the administration complies - they react, they appeal, they find workarounds, but they comply. There have been no illegal orders.

But what Nichols is calling for is very dangerous. What he says "may" happen, and bear in mind he is issuing a veiled call for a military coup, would split the country apart. It would very likely lead to open conflict - a civil war. Nichols seems to think that eliminating President Trump by means of a military coup would somehow make America into a wonderful socialist paradise, which it wouldn't. Even if Nichols' side - the left - won any such conflict, it would more likely result in a military dictatorship.

And, to be candid, Nichols' side, the left, wouldn't win. The military brass may well be amenable to a leftist American government, but the rank and file - many of whom were among the thousands that stormed the recruiting stations after President Trump won the 2024 election? They aren't likely to take part in a military overthrow.

It's a near-certainty that Nichols just plain doesn't know what he's talking about.

The likely result of an open conflict, the likely result of any attempt at a military coup, regardless of which side wins, would be deaths in the hundreds of thousands at a minimum, more likely in the millions. It would mean trillions in economic losses because of the infrastructure loss and the collapse of the big cities, which is, in any case, already happening, and which President Trump is trying to stop.

President Trump has been trying to stamp down the leftist outrages that are tearing our cities apart, and Nichols is willing to sacrifice those cities to get Trump out of office. And that, indeed, is his most catastrophic miscalculation:

Nichols hates Trump more than he likes safe cities, and he really wants to bring Trump down. Sadly for him, nothing has worked yet.

“Congress, so far, has been useless in restraining Trump,” Nichols writes.

But he misses this important point: most Americans don’t want Trump restrained. They want Trump to carry out his agenda and they want people like Nichols and Antifa — aka the Democrats — to get out of the way.

A civil war would engender hatred and ill will that would last for generations. It would be very likely to damage the Republic beyond repair.

America as we know it would almost certainly be no more. This is something nobody should want and an outcome that we should take great pains to avoid. But to damage President Donald Trump, this liberal columnist, and many on the petty, rage-filled woke left like him, would gladly take that chance.
