Ayotte vetoes GOP book 'banning' proposal

New Hampshire Gov. Kelly Ayotte signed House Bill 592, ending bail reform.

Office of the Governor of New Hampshire, Kelly Ayotte

By Chris Wade | The Center Square contributor Jul 16, 2025

(The Center Square) — In a split with fellow Republicans, New Hampshire Gov Kelly Ayotte vetoed a bill Tuesday that would have authorized parent-led efforts to ban books and other "inappropriate materials" from the state's public schools and libraries.

The legislation, which passed the GOP-controlled state Legislature earlier this year, called for creating a new process for banning books in New Hampshire schools by allowing parents and other individuals to file complaints challenging specific titles in libraries they believe are inappropriate.

It specifically lists materials they deem "harmful" to minors, including nudity, sexual conduct, sadomasochistic abuse, as well as other "patently offensive" subject material that lacks "value" to students.

But Ayotte said the state already has a process for parents through their local school district to "exercise their rights to ensure their children are not exposed to inappropriate materials."

"As a parent, I understand and appreciate the concerns parents have about their children being exposed to age-inappropriate or objectionable materials in schools," she wrote in her veto message.

But Ayotte said she doesn't believe the state "needs to, nor should it, engage in the role of addressing questions of literary value and appropriateness" given that the measure called for financial penalties based on "subjective standards" of indecency.

The Republican said she also has concerns that the proposal, if approved, would lead to "extensive civil action" over materials in the state's schools, which she said "could open the door to unnecessary litigation from out-of-state groups.

"If the Legislature determines that [the current statute] is not being implemented or enforced adequately, the more suitable and narrow way to address these concerns would be to modify that statute," Ayotte added.

The state's largest teachers union was among those who praised the governor for rejecting the proposal and "standing up for the freedom to read."

“Every student deserves to see themselves reflected in the pages of their books," Megan Tuttle, president of the New Hampshire chapter of the National Education Association, said in a statement. "We hope this book ban bill veto represents a changing tide at the State House and call on lawmakers to listen to Granite Staters who overwhelmingly oppose classroom censorship efforts.”

The debate over the measure comes amid a nationwide uptick in “book challenges” by parent groups, conservative organizations and lawmakers across the country who are pushing to remove certain books in schools and libraries, especially those dealing with LGBTQ and racial themes.

Critics argue that efforts to ban books are being driven largely by racism and homophobia, and are harming students and stifling free speech, with many of the challenges focusing on titles with themes of race, sexuality and gender identity.

But conservative groups claim public and school libraries are being infiltrated by left-wing groups who want to push a radical agenda on youth. They say parents should have more control over the titles their children have access to in public schools, particularly when it comes to sexually explicit material.

The Terrible Cost of 'Hipster' Socialism

“Zohran Mamdani ran an astonishingly powerful and effective campaign. Against a field of aging hacks, earnest nerds… he emerged as New York City’s hipster prom king, (Manhattan Institute, June 25th)

“Hipster Tammany Hall is here.” (National Review July, 9th)

“Zohran Mamdani and the Hipster Intifada…The meteoric rise of this 33-year-old ‘democratic socialist’, who last night became the Dems’ candidate for New York City mayor, has induced rapture among the digital left.” (The Spectator, June, 25th)

“They saw in Fidel Castro (33 years old at the time) and Che Guevara the hipsters who in the era of the Organization Man had joyfully defied the system.” (President Kennedy’s adviser Arthur Schlesinger Jr, March, 1961.)

“Private corporate property is not only wrong, but also nonsensical…we cannot accept capitalism’s conception of economic relations as “free and private.” (Democratic Socialists of America, of which Zohran Mamdani is a proud member.”)

“Only through the total eradication of private property will we create the new man.” (Che Guevara)

“Youth must refrain from ungrateful questioning of governmental mandates. The very spirit of rebellion is reprehensible!" (Che Guevara.)

Despite a half century of Stalinist crimes, this “hipster” cachet hovers around the leaders of the Cuban Revolution and persists to this day, and contributes much to socialism’s popularity among the “young and hip” worldwide. Then thanks largely to President Obama’s “rapprochement” with those Cuban “hipsters,” Stalinist Cuba became the absolute “coolest” place on earth for hip show-off vacationers.

Fortunately, during their first term, the Trump Team curtailed the Cuba-travel-palooza from the U.S., that was obscenely enriching Stalinist Cuba’s military and secret police, who own most of the prison island’s tourism infrastructure.

Shortly after Obama’ initial diplomatic surrender to Castro in 2014, Katy Perry, the Rolling Stones and the Obama family itself graced Cuba with their presence. Then Karl Lagerfeld showcased his Chanel “cruise line” with a fashion-show extravaganza where Havana’s Prado Street served as the catwalk/runway for the world’s lithest models, while Gisele Bundchen, Tilda Swinton and Vin Diesel posed for paparazzi on the sidelines.

Shortly thereafter the Kardashians arrived in Havana to shoot an episode of their reality show.

The notion of Castro’s Cuba as stiflingly Stalinist nation never quite caught on among the “enlightened.” The regime was founded by “beatniks,” after all. In 1960 Jean Paul Sartre hailed Cuba’s Stalinist rulers as “les Enfants au Pouvoir” (the children in power). A few months earlier Fidel Castro spoke at Harvard the same bill as beat poet Allen Ginsberg. And ever since then, long-haired Che Guevara has reigned worldwide as top icon of youthful rebellion. The reality, as documented in my book, differs grotesquely:

In fact, Cuban socialism has always been a mortal enemy of almost everything “hipsters” and millenials claim to hold dear–a more implacable enemy, in fact, than were most Iron Curtain regimes. First off, notice the age of the typical half-dead Cuban rafter who washes up on south Florida’s beaches almost daily, often using his last reserves of energy to kiss the sand in gratitude. It’s rare to see one over 30.

The Castro brothers and Che Guevara often outdid their Soviet patrons in outlawing and punishing typical millennial behavior. While the Rolling Stones were performing for a huge crowd of Polish kids in Warsaw in 1967, for instance, Cuban kids were being herded into forced labor camps for the crime of (clandestinely) listening to rock music, or growing long hair, or wearing blue jeans.

“Youth must refrain from ungrateful questioning of governmental mandates,” commanded Che Guevara. “Instead, they must dedicate themselves to study, work and military service.” “Youth,” wrote Guevara, “should learn to think and act as a mass!”

“Those who choose their own path” (as in growing long hair and listening to “Yankee-Imperialist” Rock & Roll) were denounced by the Castro Brothers and Che Guevara as worthless “roqueros,” “lumpen” and “delinquents.” In his famous speech, Che Guevara even vowed “to make individualism disappear from Cuba! It is criminal to think of individuals!”

The Cuban regime hailed by current American champions of “hipster” socialism jailed and tortured political prisoners at a higher rate than Stalin’s during the Great Terror and murdered more Cubans in its first three years in power than Hitler’s murdered Germans during its first six . In the above process Fidel Castro and Che Guevara converted a nation with a higher per-capita income than half of Europe and a huge influx of immigrants into one that repels Haitians and boasts the highest suicide rate in the Western Hemisphere.

Here’s a list of Cuban’s socialism’s accomplishments:

*Converted a nation with a higher standard of living than much of Europe and swamped with immigrants from Europe into a vast slum and sewer that repels evens Haitians.

*Converted a nation that formerly attracted more immigrants per-capita than the U.S. (and even from the U.S.)  into a hellhole that drove TWENTY times as many desperate Cubans to die horribly attempting to escape it as East Germans died trying to flee East Germany.

*Converted a nation with the 13th lowest infant-mortality on earth –-ahead of France, Belgium, West Germany, Israel, Japan, Austria, Italy, Spain, and Portugal– into an island slum, sewer and prison ravaged by diseases long-eradicated in Cuba, boasting the highest suicide rate in the hemisphere–and whose practicing “doctors” overwhelmingly flunk the exam given in the U.S. for licensing as doctor’s assistants.”

Every single item mentioned above thoroughly documented here.

Oh….and among Castro and Guevara’s first ploys was a “rent-freeze,” which went into effect in mid 1960. Millions of Cuban imbeciles whooped and cheered at the news, like so many whoop and cheer in New York today.

Evil, Thy Name is Democratic Party

They are lying about everything. They are lying about climate change. They are lying about the Epstein files. They are lying about Trump, transgenderism, racism, babies, the economy—what are they not lying about? And lying is evil. Can anything be done about this non-stop onslaught of moral degradation in our society?

Unfortunately, we will never, ever remove evil from the human heart or an organized society. There is some evil inside all of us, as well as some good. There are degrees of this, however; some people ARE better than others (Jesus), some people ARE more wicked than others (Pelosi). Regardless of degrees, removing evil from society is a practical impossibility.

But we can try. We should try. We must try. And we must do a whole lot better at cleaning up our civilization than we are doing at present. And there are indeed many good people making supreme efforts to elevate our culture from the slimy sewer it has sunk into.

But the forces arrayed against us are strong, very strong.  And legion.

The biggest problem with removing evil from American culture and what’s left of our civilization is, quite frankly, the Democratic Party. Their mantra calls evil good, and good evil, and it is imperative, for them, that they have as much human depravity as possible. That is the source of their political power. The reason is simple: the more evil there is in a society, the more government is needed to “protect” against it, and that means more power and control for self-anointed elites who consider themselves more intelligent and morally superior to the cake-eating deplorables. And if there is anything the modern Democratic Party craves above all, it is power, control, and thus more government. Hence, they need more chaos.

A virtuous society can get by with a limited amount of government. That was the plan of the Founding Fathers of America. As James Madison wrote, “If all men were angels, we wouldn’t need government.” People who take care of themselves and their families, work hard, live honorable lives, and help their fellow citizens hardly need much government to tell them what to do. But, alas, all men are not angels, and thus government will always be necessary, to a greater or lesser degree, depending upon how righteous and honorable its citizens are, and how well they “govern” themselves. You see, folks, to the great men who founded this country, “self-government” is not Washington, D.C.; self-government is citizens governing themselves, controlling themselves, conquering themselves in harmony with the laws of nature and nature’s God.

But this is very far from the philosophy of the modern Left and the Democratic Party. Instead of urging people to live virtuous, godly lives, modern liberals encourage as much vice, debauchery, hedonism, lack of personal responsibility, and immorality as possible. They cheer and exalt such behavior (unless done with an “assault” weapon). They need these things to expand and flourish, so there will be a greater need for government. But in their deformed vision of a “good” society, government doesn’t protect against evil; it exists to promote such debauchery against the virtuous who oppose it. These liberals literally lust to dominate this government, and often become vicious and violent when they are unable to do so, almost always coupled with an unreasonableness and irrationality shockingly, and often frighteningly, beyond the comprehension of decent, normal-thinking people. How many times have you read about some radical leftist mutant doing something that is completely outside your ability to even imagine, something your wildest nightmares couldn’t concoct? Like child mutilation. But there it is—on TV, reported and defended by CNN and the Democratic Party. Power does than to people, and it’s power that the Democrats crave. They need evil so that society needs government, and thus needs them. How despicable can you get?

Our Founders understood that government power and human freedom are actually opposites. Some government power is necessary to protect freedoms, but the only place government can get power is from the people. Government can get power by the consent of the governed (the people “freely” giving them some), or by force—usually the latter in most places and times. But this desire for power is why Democrats must limit virtuous freedom. Virtuous people take care of themselves, don’t harm others, and are thus the very antithesis of totalitarian government—and the modern Democratic Party. It is why liberals absolutely hate the family and religion and are hell-bent on destroying both. People must have no higher allegiance or obedience than to them, as they exercise power through the state.

Evil. It is what the Democratic Party lives for: to create as much malevolence, chaos, and crises as possible, to unscrupulously, knowingly, and deliberately lie endlessly to convince unsuspecting people that more government is necessary, and to make as many serfs as possible, subservient to and needful of them. And to destroy those who oppose them. Just look at the worst, most depraved cities in America. Every one of them is run by a Democrat. And they are doing absolutely nothing about it, except trying to make it worse. This isn’t an accident. It is perfectly in harmony with their vision of life.

A populace that refuses to conquer itself always means more and bigger government. And thus, less freedom. Or, in the Left’s warped philosophy, a government to protect the depravity that gives them power.

And that is the modern Democratic Party. And too much of the Republican. Call it what it is—pure evil with fewer and fewer to stand in the gap against it.

What We Should Takeaway from DNI Gabbard’s Declassified Russia Hoax Documents

DNI Gabbard dropped this unbelievable and yet true bombshell Friday morning, releasing 114 pages of declassified documents from the Intelligence Community proving the existence of manufactured and politicized intelligence on the Russia Hoax in 2016. There are so many harmful consequences from this behavior by top leaders in our government who attempted to undermine President Trump’s lawful election by the people of the United States of America.

DNI Gabbard covered the main ones, saying it better than I believe anyone else could, as she laid out the facts of the discovery in her Press Release. She addressed the critical issues saying, “This was politicized intelligence that was used as the basis for countless smears seeking to delegitimize President Trump’s victory, the years-long Mueller investigation, two Congressional impeachments, high level officials being investigated, arrested, and thrown in jail, heightened US-Russia tensions and more.”

She also addressed the effect this hoax had on the American people, saying, “Their egregious abuse of power and blatant rejection of our Constitution threatens the very foundation and integrity of our democratic republic. No matter how powerful, every person involved in this conspiracy must be investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, to ensure nothing like this ever happens again. The American people’s faith and trust in our democratic republic and therefore the future of our nation depends on it.”

These powerful statements illustrate that this Hoax shook the foundations of our democracy to its core, and her statement that this should never be allowed to happen again is the most important takeaway. But I would additionally like to focus on another aspect that this scandal touches, and that is the weaponization of the Intelligence Community against the American people. These reports show collusion between DHS, FBI, CIA, NSA, and the White House, all in the service of influencing the American people to push a false narrative.

This is a complicated issue, so let’s start at the beginning.  After 9/11, there was a push among the government and specifically among the Intelligence Community to promote more interagency cooperation and prevent different agencies from working in silos, as that is part of what the government believed led to the surprise element of the attack on 9/11. The government found that different agencies had pieces of information and were worried about a potential attack, but no one agency had enough information to predict the specifics of the attack. The government decided that they may have been able to predict the attack better if they weren’t working in silos. This was a good and significant change that needed to be implemented.

The CIA and other agencies that deal with foreign intelligence have historically been subject to strict rules that forbid them from operating on or spying on American citizens on American soil in most circumstances. However, after 9/11, the American people’s privacy and protections as citizens were stripped back to supposedly combat future terrorist attacks. DHS was created, and the NSA was empowered. The NSA has since developed a track record for taking liberties with their jurisdiction and spying on American citizens. Then we had rapid advancements in technology that brought Americans' personal lives online and into spaces that had no legal precedent for privacy. Fast forward to 2016, when this Russia Hoax begins taking place, and DHS, CIA, FBI, NSA, and others were directed by the White House to work together to manufacture intelligence to subvert the will of the American people. With this kind of pressure and direction from the White House, there are numerous ways that protections enshrined for American citizens could have been violated. When different agencies with varying jurisdictions and mandates are directed to work together against the American people, how can we ensure that our protections are being respected? DHS has access to information that the CIA might not, and vice versa, because they have different mandates. This, in theory, protects Americans from the type of influence coming from the Intelligence Community that was peddled during this hoax. This hoax was luckily contained to manufacturing and politicizing intelligence, as far as we know. Still, the demand from the White House for cooperation among all these agencies to work against the American people should be enough to prompt us to pause and think seriously.

As much as we need cooperation and we want our homeland protection agencies to have the best information possible, I believe this revelation is a powerful reason for us to implement checks and balances on the Intelligence Community. We should do better at specifying in which cases it is acceptable for agencies to cooperate and share sensitive data of American citizens. While this was hopefully an isolated incident and the perpetrators will be prosecuted, it highlights the need to revisit procedures within the Intelligence Community. We have seen how powerful the Intelligence Community has become when they are directed to cooperate and how that power can be weaponized against the American people if the wrong leaders are in charge. We rushed forward after 9/11 to introduce cooperation to improve national security; now it is time to refine that cooperation with checks and balances.

A Mother Is Under Fire for Teaching Her Kids to Fight Back, Showing Society Still Doesn't Get It

I'm not sure how often I was told this as a kid, but I know I heard it a lot.

"Don't hit. Tell a teacher if anyone ever hits you."

A horrid piece of advice adopted by too many Americans. I can attest to it personally. The advice doesn't work. It only makes the bullying worse, and moreover, it teaches the kids who obeyed that command that they weren't worth much.

That's the sad reality of nature. Appealing to a higher authority about something might help you temporarily, but the long-term effects of handing over your well-being to someone else never pays off in the long run. Best to understand that you yourself worth enough getting violent over.

That's what one mom posted in a TikTok. She said she wasn't about to tell her kids to just tell a teacher if they were being bullied. Her advice was to fight back and "hit back harder."

This caused something of a war on the internet, with many taking her side, but many others denouncing this as an awful way to look at things, according to the New York Post

“This teaches kids to solve problems with violence instead of seeking help or resolution. It also undermines trust in teachers and makes schools harder to manage,” one user blasted.

“This energy is gross. Hitting people isn’t OK,” scolded another.

One elementary school teacher even weighed in from the front lines of the classroom.

“As an elementary teacher, this is the mindset of nearly every parent and fighting is out of control. We won’t even know students are having problems with one another because they won’t tell us about it. They will just fight … I’m not saying kids can’t learn to defend … or advocate for themselves but they need to communicate with the adults in charge of keeping them safe before it gets to that point.”

The Today Show even weighed in on the conversation, bringing in a child expert who warned that what also needs to be taught is that hitting in response may come with consequences from the school or the opposing kid's family.

The thing is, all this resorting to referring to a higher authority can actually reprogram the brain, and if you're a child, that programming can run pretty deep.

Firstly, bullying results in low-self esteem, which can trigger all sorts of issues. This isn't exactly news, but according to a study published in the National Library of Medicine, bullied children tend to internalize the wrongs done to them, resulting in anxiety, self-harm, and suicidal behavior.

According to another study by Carol Dweck and N. Dickon Reppucci at Yale University found that teaching children to not fight back results in learned helplessness and a lack of control over their personal life. It introduces failure into the psyche which causes them to have a negative view about their own personal ability, and give up on tasks even when they're solvable.

In other words, learned helplessness.

One may teach the child to give warnings and try to solve conflicts peacefully, but the line has to be quick to cross. The child can't go on trying to reason with another child forever, and too often children are unreasonable. This means that it's important for your child's development to hit back. Even if the child doesn't necessarily win the fight, it was better that he fought back and developed that sense of self-worth and gave the other kid something to think about the next time they decide they want to bully your child.

Self-defense is tied to self-worth, and telling your child to abandon any idea of it is going to leave more lasting damage on the mind than the bullies' fists will physically.

While it's definitely a good thing to teach children not to start fights or physical confrontations, which can come with its own set of psychological issues, "fight back" is an important reaction to have in any situation where self-worth is on the line.

Those who are kept from that will experience a much harder life and grow up to become incapable of protecting themselves or their family members. They'll be more prone to flight than fight, and that doesn't exactly make for a good protector of the home.

One Year Later, This CNN Guest Still Won’t Admit Trump Was Shot in the Ear

Townhall

One year after the shocking assassination attempt on President Donald Trump's life in Butler, Pennsylvania, CNN continues to dodge the truth by refusing to acknowledge that the president was shot in the ear. Despite clear statements from Trump himself and medical confirmation from his longtime physician, CNN’s refusal to report the facts exposes their ongoing bias and political agenda.

During a broadcast on CNN, far-left journalist Touré claimed that Trump "supposedly" got shot in the ear, saying that there was never any confirmation from his doctors.

One week after the assassination attempt, President Trump’s team released a statement confirming that a bullet in his ear indeed struck the Commander-in-Chief during the July 13, 2024, rally. Trump's former physician, Dr. Ronny Jackson, wrote that the president sustained a gunshot wound to the right ear that came “less than a quarter of an inch from entering his head, and struck the top of his right ear.” He added that the bullet track “produced a 2 cm wide wound that extended down to the cartilaginous surface of the ear. There was initially significant bleeding, followed by marked swelling of the entire upper ear.”

Yet, Touré still refused to accept the fact that Trump was shot. But don't worry, CNN host Scott Jennings put him into his well-needed place.

"Whoa! Whoa! Hold on! Did you say supposedly?" Jennings said.

"When did we hear from his doctor? When did we hear from his doctor?” Touré asked, while CNN host Abby Phillip confirmed that President Trump was indeed shot in the ear.

Following the tragic shooting, photographs showed Trump wearing a bandage on his ear, indicating the injury sustained during the attack.

Video of Katie Britt Ripping Chris Murphy to Shreds Makes the Rounds, and We're Here for It

RedState

Though some may feel that Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) is one of the more annoying pipsqueaks in Congress, I say that would be insulting to pipsqueaks, as there might be a time or two when they deserve a little respect.

Murphy, on the other hand, deserves none. When he's not working behind the scenes to undermine America, he's taking the opportunity to try to grab for your gun rights in the aftermath of mass shooting incidents, where he oftentimes rushes to - without evidence -  blame Republicans.

The Senator, who some have speculated is gearing up for a 2028 run for president, has also attempted to raise his national profile since Donald Trump was sworn into office for a second time. For instance, he announced in June that he had started a new group whose goal was "to fund citizen led protest groups all over the country," as if George Soros wasn't giving the purported "citizen-led" groups already in existence enough.

Sen. Chris Murphy Confirms He Is Just a Genuinely Awful Person

Needless to say, anytime we see that Murphy is on the receiving end of a righteous verbal smackdown, we take notice, because few things are more gratifying from a political standpoint than seeing Murphy put in his place.

As it turns out, that is exactly what appeared to happen on Thursday on the floor of the U.S. Senate, where the two of them were seen having what looked like an intense exchange, with Britt seeming to have the upper hand throughout most of the back and forth, which was said to have gone on for about ten minutes:

It’s unclear what the exchange was about, but the reporter who caught the clip speculates, “Britt is the chair and Murphy is the ranking member on the Homeland Security Subcommittee of the Approps Committee, and it’s approps season, so perhaps something related to that?”

Murphy is strident on a number of mainstream liberal issues like gun control and immigration. But whatever it was that drew the ire of Britt — she clearly wasn’t backing down.

Watch:

I should note for the record that this isn't the first time Britt has taken issue with Murphy and publicly expressed her disagreement:

Sen. Britt seems to have a way about her when it comes to her male Democrat colleagues, not only just with Murphy - who wasn't putting up much of a fight in that video, but also with Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA), who she became friends with in 2023 when they were both freshman Senators and he was battling clinical depression and issues related to his 2022 stroke.

Britt, who is solidly conservative, also reportedly struck up a friendship with Vermont Sen. Peter Welch (D) around the same time.

A solid combination of grace, grit, determination, and compassion, with a healthy dose of "bless your heart" sprinkled in when the occasion calls for it. You're doing your southern brothers and sisters proud, Sen. Britt. Solid work.

Emil Bove Will Be An Effective, Pro-Liberty Judge, And That Makes Democrats Angry

‘It’s become routine this Congress, but it’s not new. We all remember what Democrats did to Justice Kavanaugh’

In another tumultuous meeting, the Senate Judiciary Committee advanced the nomination of Emil Bove, President Donald Trump’s pick for a federal judgeship. All 12 Republicans on the committees voted to approve Bove, while Democrats didn’t vote at all; they protested and then walked out.

Really, it was a brilliant move because it frees Democrats from accountability in the future. Bove has a lengthy and varied law career, and his only controversies have been manufactured by Democrats with media assistance. When anyone looks at Senate voting records, they will see individual Democrats simply didn’t vote, instead of the record showing a vote opposing Bove.

No one will remember how Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., fully ignored decorum, complaining, urging, begging, for just a bit more time to discuss Bove. It was another in a string of stall tactics; the committee had already spent hours on multiple days discussing Bove. Booker spoke over Chairman Chuck Grassley, who ultimately turned his back on Booker, and started the vote.

As Booker continued bloviating and Republicans voted, Sen. Mazie Hirono stood up to exit but first leaned into her microphone and declared, “This is a kangaroo court. That’s what we have here.”

Democrats were only hot air, failing to record their sentiments with a no-vote. Meanwhile, their propaganda partners in the media got busy attacking Bove.

Once approved by the full Senate, Bove will serve on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.

They won’t say it, but even Democrats must know Bove is a solid pick. Many of former President Joe “Autopen” Biden’s judicial picks were quite fresh out of law school with little courtroom experience and had obvious activist connections. Yet Democrats eagerly confirmed Biden’s picks. That is how you know this current posturing is only politics.

Bove is currently the Principal Associate Deputy Attorney General. Much of Bove’s career has been with the Department of Justice, handling cases involving violent crime, terrorism, and drug cartels, according to his Questionnaire for Judicial Nominees.

In 2019, Bove earned the Director’s Award for Superior Performance by a Litigative Team from the Department of Justice. He graduated in the top five percent of his class at Georgetown University Law Center in 2008.

Grassley started Thursday’s committee meeting announcing he planned a vote before the meeting was over.

“I want to address the unfair rhetoric and treatment directed at Mr. Bove by some on this Committee. Frankly, it’s crossed the line,” Grassley said. “I’ve seen a lot of confirmation fights. What we’re witnessing has all the hallmarks of a political hit job timed for maximum media splash with minimum substance.”

Grassley soundly chastised Democrats for slow walking Trump’s nominees.

“This Congress alone, Democrats have sent at least 26 letters to 17 agencies or parties demanding records, delays or investigations into President Trump’s nominees. I’m holding them right here,” Grassley said. “Like clockwork, just before a hearing or vote, we get another breathless accusation that one of President Trump’s nominees needs to be investigated. We’ve seen the slanted stories and reckless accusations before. We’ve been down this road. It’s become routine this Congress, but it’s not new. We all remember what Democrats did to Justice Kavanaugh.”

Perhaps what the Democrats fear most is that Bove will bring some much needed balance to the judiciary. Grassley said Bove deserves fair treatment.

“The vicious, partisan attacks and obstruction of nominees we’ve seen from Democrats this Congress have to stop. One day, roles will reverse again, and my colleagues will want the same fairness for nominees of their president that they’ve refused to extend to President Trump’s nominees. They should look around the corner and consider that day.”
