How the Left-Wing Corporate Media Works

Did you hear the news? They say “five million people” took to the streets to protest “No Kings” last Saturday. Know how I know there are five million people? Because the public relations firm hired by organizers – fully funded by spoiled, entitled, white billionaires – put out a press release saying so, that’s how I know. Well, they put out the press release, then “honest journalists” all across the media spectrum simply repeated the number without making even a passive attempt to verify it. Accuracy is for suckers when the agenda is on the line.

That’s how the scam works: Leftists declare something is going to happen, and it’s going to happen all across the country, in “2000 cities across the country,” then the media dutifully reports that. They are reporting that something “will happen” and the size of it, which is not news, it is PR. Then, when it does happen, they report whatever numbers the leftists give them.

I noticed this phenomenon during the “Fight for $15” – the push to destroy fast food restaurants from coast to coast. They swore there would be 200 protests across the country, but were there? No one ever checked. 

Why would they? With “200 events,” that breaks down to 4 per state. Yet, I only ever saw footage from New York, Chicago, DC, LA, and maybe St. Louis. Always. Seems like I would have come across one in the wild, if only by accident, if they were nationwide, or the local news stations would have footage from one, but they didn’t. Only the major liberal cities events. 

Weird, right?

Not really. The game isn’t to turn people out to these events across the country to show how big your “movement” is, it’s to get whatever number you’ve determined to be impressive repeated, true or not, to give the impression that you’ve got a big movement. 

If a Republican says anything, true or not, the media cuts it with a “Republicans claim” or “We could not independently verify” or some other qualifier to distance the outlet from the assertion. No such concern in the other direction. Donald Trump asserts things “without evidence,” Democrats simply declare thing and no value judgement or jaundiced eye is cast in their direction. 

Weird, right?

It’s not weird at all, it’s a big part of how media bias works now. 

When something is in dispute, leftists will note that Republicans deny it or claim the opposite in paragraph 23 of a piece exclusively about whatever it is Democrats are saying. When, much later, the truth comes out (usually by accident or, in the case of Joe Biden’ senility, a book someone was paid a lot of money to write) they point to that one paragraph in one piece as “evidence” they reported honestly. Never mind the 15 articles all asserting the liberal spin without mentioning anything to the contrary, they made passing reference to what ultimately turned out to be the truth once and that means they’re honest brokers.

But they aren’t honest brokers. Yes, they do straight-up lying and repeating Democrat Party spin without shame or decency, but they also do the subtle spin too. Once you see it you can’t not see it going forward.

Were there five million leftists in the streets protesting Trump? I don’t know. But I do know that five million is a lot of people, so it’s highly unlikely that there were. I also know that exactly zero of the Democrats in the media repeating that five million number have any idea if it’s true or not either. But they aren’t interested in accuracy or else they’d add a qualifier about how they couldn’t verify that number if they wanted to and they do not.

Media bias is a lot more than simply lying about Republicans or on behalf of Democrats, it’s how those lies are reported as truth, in one direction or another. None of this is by accident. It might not always be conscious, but every bit of it is deliberate. It’s second nature to the media, which is why you need to point it out every time so more people will take note and fewer will fall for it the next time.

Immigration Riots and America’s Fascist Party

Over the past twenty-five years, both sides of the political spectrum have accused the other of being captive to fascism or its offshoot Nazism. With the Democrat party’s unabashed promotion of riots and violence in America’s cities, ostensibly on behalf of criminal illegal immigrants, and rampant antisemitism, it can no longer be denied that the party is captive to the tenets of fascism and its progenitor, Marxism, and utilizes the tactics the Nazi’s employed to seize and retain power in perpetuity.

While there are a number of inescapable and disturbing ways in the which the Democrat party emulates the Nazis, there are two intertwined similarities that puts to rest any question that the Democrat Party is little different than the Nazis.

The first is the use of indoctrinated militant cadres to foment street riots, property damage, extortion, and gratuitous violence supposedly on behalf of those they define as “oppressed” while blaming others as the instigators of the violence. The second is a psychopathic obsession and exploitation of race and its inevitable manifestation of rampant and unabashed antisemitism.

Both tactics work in tandem to achieve a pre-ordained objective—economic, societal, and cultural upheaval that leads to permanent one-party rule.

In the 1920s and early 1930s, the Nazi’s, seeking any excuse to riot, eventually settled on a specious claim that they were bringing attention to the dire economic plight of the average German. Behind the façade of concern for the average German, they utilized their militant cadre, the Sturmabteilung (SA), to instigate riots, damage property, and brutalize any opposition as a means of projecting power through intimidation while blaming the government or political opponents for the violence they incited.

The Nazis did not care about the suffering of the citizenry. Instead, their distress was used to justify the violence employed to spread fear and anxiety among the public at large. This single-minded determination to terrorize the citizenry and national political leadership played a key role in their ascendance to power.

Almost immediately upon assuming the reins of government, Hitler and the Nazis seized power by passing laws permanently embedding voting fraud and manipulation in all national elections and transformed the judicial system into a vehicle of oppression directed at their political foes and the Jews while their allies were not prosecuted for any criminal activity.

The Democrat party, using the façade of caring about the black population by combating fictitious “systemic racism” after the death of lifelong criminal George Floyd, followed in the footsteps of their ideological soulmates and promoted street riots, property damage, and gratuitous violence. They utilized their indoctrinated militant cadres, such as Antifa and Black Lives Matter, to project power through intimidation while blaming white supremacy, police brutality, Donald Trump, and Republicans for the violence.

Combined with massive voter fraud and manipulation, these tactics played a significant role in the election of a senescent and manipulable Joe Biden.

Almost immediately upon assuming the reins of government in 2021, the Democrat-controlled House passed a bill to permanently embed voter fraud and manipulation in all federal elections. The Democrats also transformed the Justice Department into a vehicle of oppression directed at their political foes while their allies were either not prosecuted, treated extraordinarily leniently, or pardoned.

Since the election of Donald Trump on November 5, 2024, a stunned Democrat party has been desperately searching for an issue or event its members could exploit in order to again foment street riots, looting, arson, and unconstrained violence. In their impatience, they stampeded themselves into defending the supposed civil rights of violent illegal aliens as part of their newfound love for all illegal immigrants.

The American people are supposed to believe that the Democrat party has unleashed their legions of mind-numbed foot soldiers into America’s cities in order to sow chaos and undermine the Trump Administration because of their hitherto unknown altruism and concern for the “rights” of criminal illegal immigrants

The Democrat party, mirroring its Nazi predecessors, does not care about the so-called plight of millions of illegal immigrants. These immigrants are simply the means to achieve political hegemony by transforming the electorate and a vehicle to justify the Democrats’ ongoing criminality and thuggery.

Promoting racial and ethnic animosity geared to fomenting cultural and societal upheaval was a principal component of Nazi political strategy and philosophy. The Nazi Party was the most racially obsessed political party in human history. Today’s Democrat Party is second only to the Nazi Party in its racial obsession. Every piece of legislation, every accusation against its opponents, every aspect of American society, even weather and climate, is framed in imaginary racism in order to fan the flames of racial and ethnic animosity.

The Nazi Party’s obsession focused on the Nazis perverted belief in the inferiority and superiority of the races or ethnicities. This opened the door to blaming a specific ethnic group (the Jews) for all the problems facing their country. The Democrat party has long claimed that the root cause of virtually all problems facing this nation is “systemic racism” as instigated by the apex oppressor—the so-called “white” race and in particular, the Jews.

Antisemitism is a foundational tenet of Nazism. Antisemitism, through the Democrats’ nine-decade (1870-1960) alliance with the Ku Klux Klan and the advancement of Fascist principles in the 1930s by an antisemitic Franklin Roosevelt, has long been foundational in the Democrat Party.

Today, many elected Democrats openly denigrate the state of Israel, glorify the Palestinian terrorists, and tacitly back those calling for the death of Jews throughout the world. By doing so, they have fueled an exponential increase in anti-Jewish attacks in America’s universities and major cities.

October 7, 2023, a date that will live in infamy in the annals of the state of Israel, has exposed the depth of the Democrat party’s antisemitism and de facto support for the underlying beliefs of Hamas, a terrorist organization that has, as its declared sole reason for existence, the elimination of Israel and the slaughter of all Jews.

Near Nazi-level racism and antisemitism have captured the Democrat party since the beginning of the Obama presidency, resulting in a continuous series of antisemitic or racially inspired riots, marches, and gratuitous violence, all endorsed by the party as a means of intimidation and societal upheaval.

While the current iteration of the Democrat party does not have a military uniform fetish or goose steps up Pennsylvania Avenue, its foot soldiers are little different than the Nazi Party of 1927-1934 in the tactics employed to achieve one-party political hegemony.

The actions and villainy of the Democrat party during the first ten-years of the Trump era have revealed that there are no tactics out-of-bounds, no limit to the lives to be sacrificed, no constraint on lawlessness, no acknowledgment of the rule of law, no deference to a written Constitution, and no respect for the dignity of mankind—just a raw unbridled determination to seize power in perpetuity as they follow in the footsteps of one of the most vile and destructive political movements in human history.

Do We Go to War to Prevent Iran from Having Nuclear Weapons?

I hate war. As a historian, I have read countless books about war, especially those over the past century, and war is brutal, barbaric, savage, hideous, horrid—there aren’t enough words in my Thesaurus to describe how horrible I think war is and how much I despise it. In war, it is nearly always the innocent who suffer the most. If we could have thrown Hitler, Stalin, Mussolini, Churchill, Roosevelt, and Tito into the ring and let them duke it out, that would have been far better. In the 20th century, hundreds of millions of innocent lives would have been saved.  

But it’s never the demons who cause the wars who fight in them. It’s always the guiltless who endure the most agony. 

I hate war, but I also cannot deny that sometimes it is necessary. Hitler had to be stopped. Japan had to be stopped. North Korea—communism—had to be stopped. And the only way to do that was by war.

Sadly, one of the greatest truths of history is that there always are, have been, and will be evil monsters and nations on this earth. Evil does exist, and for the sake of the descent among humanity, it must be eradicated. And sometimes war is the only, and/or best, means of doing that. The Old Testament teaches that God used war at times to remove whole wicked, barbaric, savage peoples from this earth; He even used war, many times, to punish His own people. An entire tribe can become so vile that it is no longer fit, no longer deserving, no longer has a right to live on this beautiful, blessed earth God created for mankind. And he got rid of some of them. And he sometimes used war to do it.  We did it, to a lesser extent, in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Thus, sometimes the alternative to war—to let evil exist and spread and destroy—is worse than war itself.

As noted, throughout history and today, evil people and evil leaders exist. And those evil leaders have brainwashed their entire nation to be evil like them. The Democratic Party in America has programmed all Democrats to believe in and vote for some very evil people and policies, and that makes those voters, to that extent, evil too. People who believe in murdering babies, mutilating children for sexual perversion, pedophilia, turning criminals loose on society—these are evil people. Now, not everything they do is evil; nobody, not even Adolf Hitler, was 100% evil. But evil exists and must be obliterated for the sake of the good. I’m certainly not advocating nuking Los Angeles, but I do wish the EVIL of the Democratic Party and its members could be exterminated from this planet. And just like Benedict Arnold deserved to be hanged for his treason to America, he has a lot of cousins in America today who deserve the same fate. But it didn’t happen to Benedict Arnold, and won’t happen today. And it won’t happen today precisely because the evil in America is too deep. 

“America First” does not mean “America Only.” I am a devout believer in George Washington’s “no entangling alliances,” but I try to be practical enough to realize that the United States does have interests in the world, especially economic, that necessitate those interests be protected. And that has, in our history, at times, meant war. I’m not exactly sure why it’s always America that has to go out and save mankind. Still, it’s moot because it’s the position we now find ourselves in, the position the military-industrial complex and the Deep State have put us, and the world, in, and it is a situation that, at present, we cannot avoid, whether we like it or not. And I, for one, don’t. But it isn’t going to change any time soon. Well, at least not until our government bankrupts us or until we become a colony of an impoverished Third World Mexico.

All of this is because of the evil around the world and in our own nation. Another example. Every single illegal alien within America’s borders today needs to be deported—every one of them. They are breaking the law; they have no right to be in our country. Big Agriculture and the hotel industry, et al, are not sufficient reasons for rejecting one of the major foundations of a civilized, non-evil society, i.e., law and order. But half the American nation supports, and is destroying things, so that the illegals might have the “right” to break our laws and destroy civilization. I wish every one of the people who support the illegals would be deported with them. They obviously don’t love America, so why do they stay?  Well, I guess barbarians love barbarism.  And evil people love evil.

I certainly don’t want another “civil war”—I hate war, remember—but we had one before, and most Americans think it was a justified war. Again, as much as we OUGHT to hate war, it is sometimes a necessary thing. It’s just the nature of the cruel, oppressive, savage, evil world we live in. As historian Will Durant wrote, “Civilization is an occasional and temporary interruption of the jungle.”

Iran and nukes. Does America go to war to prevent Iran from getting nuclear weapons? It’s not my decision. I just pray that we can avoid it.

Have We Forgotten How The Senate Works? – Navigating the BBB

I’m becoming increasingly convinced that people on the ConInc side of the conversation also need to pretend not to know things.

There is an increased sentiment of frustration toward President Donald Trump being espoused, and obviously that will be amplified by those who want to use a narrative of “increased sentiment of frustration toward President Trump.”

The part that surprises me is the part where people seem to have forgotten the purpose of the U.S. Senate.

CONTEXT – Currently there is a Big Beautiful Bill (BBB) in the senate, the culmination of years of work by President Trump and his team together with politicians in congress. There is no smaller BBB, there is no modified BBB, there is only one big comprehensive package of initiatives and priorities for President Trump’s agenda. One Big Beautiful Bill.

That’s it. Just this one legislative priority that has all the stuff Donald Trump promised in the 2024 election. It’s all in one bill; all of it. As a consequence, President Trump needs this bill to pass congress; there is no fallback position; there is no alternative; there is no safer option. The BBB is an all or nothing swing for the fences.

GAINING VOTES – This BBB is the legislative package approach that President Trump accepted. As a consequence whatever it takes to get that BBB legislation passed, is exactly what we should expect to see done. Remember, this is a legislative construct that only targets REPUBLICAN VOTES. Republicans control every element of this BBB discussion.

People not happy about President Trump remarks about illegal-alien farm workers. Well, President Trump is buying gaining the votes of Big Ag state senators.

People not happy about President Trump support for Israel. Well, President Trump is buying gaining the votes of Big War senators.

People not happy about President Trump support for more Ukraine weapons against a peace initiative targeting Vladimir Putin. Again, President Trump is buying gaining the votes of the defense contractor senators.

These are just a few examples of stuff in the background.  The passage of the BBB is a priority for President Trump and every Republican senator knows this.  Every single republican senator is willing to blackmail President Trump to get support for their vote.

People not happy about (____fill in blank___) as a Trump compromise, need to understand there is no alternative to the BBB that contains all of the legislative priorities of Trump. If the bill fails, he fails. Whatever is needed for passage will be done.

If doing ‘whatever it takes‘ hurts our worldview, ideological preferences or even, wait for it, feelings, welcome to politics.

Illegals Out, Wages Up: The Quiet Labor Shift Behind Trump’s Self-Deportation Plan

While most Americans have their eyes on the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids and the fallout culminating in riots and protests across the country, only a few have paid any attention to the quiet exodus of illegal immigrants. 

President Trump and the Department of Homeland Security offered illegal immigrants the chance to voluntarily deport from the United States. This program incentivizes self-deportations with a $1,000 stipend, offers cost-free travel, forgives the failure-to-deport fines, and deprioritizes arrests and detentions for those who register for the program. 

The Center for Immigration Studies investigated whether or not recent job reports made by the Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) and their subsequent analysis by outlets like the Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post were correct in attributing recent trends to this voluntary program.

The BLS released its unemployment data for May on June 6th, which showed that "the unemployment rate was unchanged in May at 4.2 percent, even as 'total nonfarm employment increased by 139,000' jobs last month." But “In May, the employment-population ratio declined by 0.3 percentage point to 59.7 percent.” That means a smaller share of Americans were working in May, despite the increase in jobs and a stable unemployment rate. In other words, more people disappeared from the labor force altogether. This drop raises an important question: where did those workers go? The Washington Post asserted it was illegal immigrants taking advantage of the Trump administration's self-deportation program. What does this mean for Americans?

When the Washington Post analyzed the BLS report, they found that  “Average hourly wages accelerated, rising by 0.4 percent over the month, to $36.24 in May,” and they attributed that boost to "the exit of immigrants from the labor market. More than a million foreign-born workers have exited the workforce since March.” With fewer illegal workers competing against American workers for jobs, employers have had to raise pay to keep their positions filled. This trend, if continued, could mark the beginning of a long-overdue recalibration of the labor market in favor of the American worker. 

SCOTUS Must Rein In Rogue Judges Threatening To Enable Violent Rioters

Over and over again, the court seems fit to allow injustice to persist when it comes to halting the policies of President Trump.

In the dead of night, an unelected federal judge made himself president and subordinated the duly elected commander-in-chief to a governor.

That is the effect of Senior Judge Charles Breyer’s ruling that President Trump’s federalizing of California’s National Guard in the face of the Los Angeles riots was “illegal,” and that the president must return control of the forces to Gov. Gavin Newsom.

Like several judges who ruled that Trump illegally invoked the Alien Enemies Act to pursue illegal alien terrorists for swift removal, Breyer’s ruling boils down to his view that, as a district court judge, he may substitute his wisdom for that of the president.

Trump federalized the National Guard under 10 U.S.C. § 12406. The law says that if “there is a rebellion or danger of a rebellion” against the U.S. government, or the president “is unable with regular forces to execute the laws of the United States,” he may take command of the National Guard of a state and deploy it “in such numbers as he considers necessary” to “suppress the rebellion or execute those laws.”

Nowhere does the law delegate to any one of the hundreds of district court judges the power to determine whether a rebellion is afoot or “regular forces” are insufficient to ensure law and order. Nor does the law require the president to preclear such actions with a court — whether in San Francisco, as in this case, or anywhere else.

“[T]he President has every right under the Constitution and by statute to call forth the National Guard and Marines to quell lawless violence directed against enforcement of federal law,” the administration wrote in its motion opposing California’s call for a temporary restraining order.

Executives must act vigorously in matters of national security, and they do so armed with knowledge and intelligence that judges lack. Executives are also directly accountable to the people in ways judges are not. Therefore, as not only a legal but a practical and political matter, it is beyond dubious for a judge to make this call.

“Plaintiffs admit that Los Angeles has experienced ‘unrest,’ but ask this Court to second-guess the President’s judgment that federal reinforcements were necessary,” the administration said. “That is precisely the type of sensitive judgment that is committed to the President’s discretion by law, and to which courts owe the highest deference.”

Yet Breyer did not afford the president such deference. 

There was no rebellion, he found, writing, “While Defendants have pointed to several instances of violence, they have not identified a violent, armed, organized, open and avowed uprising against the government as a whole.”

Nor, in the judge’s opinion, was the administration unable to execute the laws without the National Guard. 

“[T]he statute does not allow for the federalizing of the National Guard when the President faces obstacles that cause him to underperform in executing the laws,” Breyer wrote. “Nor does the statute allow for the federalizing of the National Guard when the President faces some risk in executing the laws, though of course federal employees should never have to fear danger when performing their jobs. The statute requires that the President be ‘unable’ to execute the laws of the United States. That did not happen here.”

Breyer’s posture is consistent with that evinced in adverse rulings against the administration on the Alien Enemies Act and myriad other areas. The presiding judges seem to believe they are uniquely positioned to discern whether a rebellion or predatory incursion has occurred, and that they are entitled to order that planes be turned back to the U.S. or that forces be taken out of the president’s command.

Or as Justice Samuel Alito has put it, “[A]ll Article III judges are vulnerable to an occupational disease, which is the disease of thinking that I am right and I can do whatever I want.”

It is hard to believe that the founders, who made the judiciary the weakest branch, intended that district court judges would make policy determinations about whether conditions are sufficient to merit the president availing himself of a power delegated to him. Just imagining how this would play out in a wartime scenario reveals the insanity and danger of the road many such judges are paving.

The concern that a president might use extraordinary powers in corrupt or calamitous ways is ever-present. But our system of checks and balances provides a remedy aside from letting district court judges supplant presidents — or secretaries of defense or homeland security — to dictate policy.

Congress has a panoply of powers it can use to punish a president it believes is acting badly or prohibit actions perceived to be lawless. It can hold high-profile and potentially politically damaging hearings. It can place holds on critical nominees. It can defund or prohibit policies. It can impeach and remove a president. Or it can threaten all these and many more coercive measures to cause a change. 

We are also not operating in a vacuum here when it comes to immigration and basic law and order on our streets. We have suffered an invasion to the tune of millions of illegal aliens over the last four years because federal, state, and local authorities systematically eviscerated our sovereignty. Those authorities not only created sanctuary cities but also repeatedly refused to enforce the law more broadly within those cities.

In the face of these derelictions of duty — these de facto mutinies — authorities have allowed for the basic rights of law-abiding citizens to be violated. They have seen everyday activities obstructed, they have seen their property destroyed, and they have faced threats to life and limb. That is intolerable.

The president is duty-bound to faithfully execute the laws. It is arguably an imperative to avail himself of all powers to restore the law when lawlessness has been allowed to fester. 

With the administrative state, to some extent, neutralized by the Trump administration, it

is district court judges — overwhelmingly Democrat-appointed ones, as I recently reported at RealClearInvestigations — around the country who are now serving as The Resistance.

Supreme Court Justice John Roberts’ legacy is shaping up to be that, in the name of defending the institution, he allowed judicial insurrectionists to burn it down. The disingenuousness of his position has repeatedly been brought to the fore. The court has rushed to intervene in cases, effectively on behalf of the interests of criminal illegal aliens, for example. All the while, it lets unprecedented injunction after unprecedented injunction against Trump stand while appeals slowly work their way up through the lower courts — that is, while policies tens of millions of people elected the president on remain shelved.

This practice of permitting challenges to Trump’s policies to proceed according to “regular order” can be seen with respect to Breyer’s decision as well. The Ninth Circuit stayed his ruling. But it may ultimately sustain it. It still provides little consolation given the damage done. 

And with riots potentially set to explode throughout the country this summer concerning immigration, Breyer’s opinion will no doubt serve as an attractive model to other district court judges to the extent Trump takes similar actions elsewhere.

Justice delayed is justice denied. And over and over again, the court seems fit to allow that injustice to persist when it comes to halting the policies of President Trump.

A New Era Beckons in the Mideast as Iran Could Be Compelled To Abandon Its Nuclear Ambitions

It is increasingly clear that President Trump has played a cautious but effective game in the great enterprise of denying military nuclear status to the psychotic and supreme terrorism-supporting, pseudo-theological regime in Iran. He has warned repeatedly that the United States would not allow the present government of Iran to arm itself with nuclear weapons.

When presented with indisputable evidence that Iran was on the verge of having an atomic bomb, if not an atomic warhead that could fit on a missile, he did not disagree with Prime Minister Netanyahu’s determination to attack Iran’s nuclear program from the air.

Yet everyone knew that Israel did not have the military capability of destroying the laboratories and other facilities at deep underground sites. The fact that Israel has destroyed all other aspects of the program and has set back nuclear military deployment for a long time, even if the war ceased now, has prompted Al Jazeera and other militant Islamic and pro-terrorist sites to crow that Israel’s attempt to destroy the Iranian nuclear program has failed. 

This is the background for Mr. Trump’s statement that Iran would be wise to come back to the negotiations with the United States, “while they still have something to negotiate.” He has certainly not withdrawn his promise that Iran would not be permitted to become a military nuclear power, and he is ultimately the only person who can prevent it.

It is clear that he is offering to persuade Israel to accept a cease-fire in exchange for the verified dismantling of the most sophisticated and heavily protected elements of the Iranian nuclear program, failing which he will feel free to carry out his pledge to ensure that Iran does not develop and deploy such a weapon, by using the B-2 bombers at Diego Garcia to deliver 15-ton bombs on the deep sites.

Every country in the world wishes Iran to be denied a nuclear weapon and it will happen.                                 

It is a notorious fact that the great majority of the population of Iran detests the primitive and terroristic regime riveted on its back, and it may be assumed that the air war will shortly focus on the facilities of the Revolutionary Guard that enforces this odious, totalitarian anomaly in Tehran. Israel and others are openly inviting the Iranian people to rise up against this and it is impossible for those lacking comprehensive direct intelligence of the subject to be confident about how vulnerable it is. 

Although the usual range of wafflers and appeasers are already snuggling towards the various echelons of antisemites from the socially disdainful to the pathological Jew-baiters, nobody is expressing sympathy or solidarity with the abominable Iranian government. It is well known that all of the Arab powers believe that if Iran were allowed to develop and deploy nuclear weapons, the principal Arab powers would have to do the same.

This would assure the complete collapse of the non-proliferation system, and the attempt to discourage nuclear proliferation would give away to a regime of deterrence in which the majority of the world’s remotely advanced countries would develop sufficient deliverable nuclear capability to provide them with deterrence.     

It must be said that if Iran was a respectable government and could be trusted to have, but not be reckless about, nuclear weapons, it would have a legitimate grievance that the nuclear powers had declared themselves to be worthy holders of such immense destructive power while discouraging the other 190 nations in the world from adding that particular cubit to their stature.

Since it appears almost inevitable that one way or another Iran will have to abandon its nuclear military ambitions, as well as its sponsorship of Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis, we may finally be entering a new era in the Middle East of a genuine cooperation between the Arab powers and Israel.  There may also be some broader significance in President Putin’s putting himself forward as a mediator.

The Israelis couldn’t trust him, and he has utterly no credentials as any kind of a peacemaker, but he could front negotiations really carried out under the auspices of the United States if it would assist him in the eyes of his own countrymen, who cannot be too delighted with the Putin record, including a million casualties in his insane and unsuccessful aggressive war in Ukraine.

A comprehensive settlement in central Europe may also be coming closer, based on minor territorial concessions by Ukraine to Russia but ironclad international guarantees of Ukraine as a legitimate sovereign country with accepted borders, all in the context of a nonaggression agreement between North Atlantic Treaty and Russia. This could be a framework for Russia gradually to take its distance from China and have a rapprochement with the West where it rightfully belongs, as the greatest Russian leaders starting with Peter the Great have understood.

The initial response of Mr. Trump’s domestic opponents has been to blame him for renouncing the fatuous agreement that the Obama administration sponsored, under which Iran would now be perfectly free to develop and deploy nuclear weapons. Mr. Trump’s opponents would do well to remember that it was the pacifistic Jimmy Carter who forced out the Shah of Iran, (“threw him out like a dead mouse,” said his national security adviser, Zbigniew Brzezinski). This plunged Iran into the dark ages and unleashed nearly half a century of terrorism-sponsorship on the world. 

On the heels of that geopolitical coup, President George W. Bush, Vice President Cheney, Secretary Powell,  Secretary Rumsfeld, and  Secretary Rice and others gave us the theory that democracies don’t initiate wars and that therefore elections must be held everywhere. None of them knew enough to realize that sometimes the most popular political movements in politically immature countries are anti-democratic, and we got the elevation of Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Egyptian Islamic brotherhood, with the blessing of President Obama, and “free” Iraq ultimately became a satellite of Iran.

Mr. Obama, for his part, apologized for the wartime performance of Churchill and Roosevelt, the world’s two greatest war leaders since Lincoln, for President Truman’s use of the atomic bomb, which saved a million Allied lives and probably more Japanese and which was hardly unprovoked and was used after Japan ignored warnings, and for President Eisenhower’s role in overthrowing the Mossadegh regime in Iran, which was the most benign development in modern Iranian history, at least until last week.

The American record in the Middle East between Truman’s recognition of Israel and Nixon’s opening of relations with Anwar Sadat, and except for Camp David and the Abraham accords since, has produced more problems than solutions.
