Has Leftist Lawfare Created the Police State Yet?

Increasing numbers of worried Americans have been wondering over the last few years whether progressive Democrats have succeeded in creating a police state in America. From the Russia Hoax to the revelations of the Twitter Files release, to the coordinated attempts to quash scandalous and true Biden family stories, to the blatant display of dual justice, they’ve seen that the cabal of one political party, with its power bases in the government and the sycophant media, has succeeded in limiting or destroying political opponents while eliminating individual rights. Just how bad is it? Has that cabal suspended our American Constitution and Bill of Rights and created an authoritarian alternative? Are we there yet?

In his piece “Shock and Awe on the Campaign Trail,” Roger Kimball outlines the numerous and egregious illegalities and irregularities taking place in the legal assault on candidate Trump and asks, “Why are people not up in arms over these revelations?” Similarly, in his interview with Mike Davis, who founded the “Article III Project,” Steve Bannon says, “I don’t know why people are not more on fire with the ridiculousness, the obvious lawfare, which is working, because Trump is not on the campaign trail.”

These are important questions as we look at the nearly countless unprecedented actions involved in some 91 counts of alleged wrongdoing in federal and local indictments filed against the leading presidential candidate. From the eye-popping civil suit verdicts overseen by judges with serious conflicts of interest to attempts to keep Trump off the ballot in several states, to charges related to classified document handling, to the most recent gag order, these efforts have flown in the face of precedent, due process, and equal protection at nearly every turn. They have already achieved much of what they were intended to do: Greatly hamstring (draining time and financial resources) the leading threat to Democrat party/government power.

But why haven’t we seen more overt objection to this travesty, such as more poster-carrying, angry citizens outside of the Trump trial courtrooms, on campuses, at congressional hearings, and in the streets? Part of the answer to this question has to do with the intended target for the shock and awe. It isn’t Donald Trump. As Trump has correctly observed, he is just in the way. No, the primary targets of the shock and awe are people like you and me. And the left may well have hit their mark.

Could it be that the average non-leftist citizen now feels both powerless and terrified to object to any of these injustices? They see the brutal treatment meted out to President Trump, his associates,  and his legal team, on the one hand, versus the reverence for a president whose family has inexplicably received millions of dollars from foreign sources and for violent protesters who have magically escaped jail time, or of crack-using, tax-dodging Biden family members.

Consider the brazenness and audacity of this administration, including its DOJ, over the last several years. Their targeted victims have purposely included some of the most credentialed, accomplished, prominent, well-connected, and well-heeled Americans, people such as cabinet members, generals, journalists, and even attorneys of those same victims. Other victims have been ordinary folk, such as people’s friends, family members, parents opposing sexualized curricula at their kids’ schools, or peaceful men and women holding up signs near an abortion clinic.

All of these people, both the prominent and the ordinary, have been subjected to SWAT raids, shackles and frog marches, subpoenas, lawsuits, IRS visits, prison, solitary confinement, and other humiliations. They have seen that anyone whose views or behavior are not to the liking of the Democrat/government/media cabal is a potential victim of the authoritarian state through censorship or lawfare, or both. The message to Joe Citizen is clear: “If we can take down these people, including a U.S. president and billionaire and anyone who supports him, just imagine what we can do to you.”

But that citizen doesn’t have to imagine that message. It is on clear display with the plight of those who wandered around the Capitol on January 6, with some who committed no violence, including seemingly being convicted for wearing a funny horned hat, sentenced to years of prison.

Many of these people have been incarcerated for years, some in solitary confinement, without even being charged, let alone tried, and without access either to medical care or the evidence that would likely exonerate them. Of course, the mainstream media does its part to justify such treatment with the mantra that January 6th represented a massive threat to American democracy.

In sum, it appears that the shock and awe are working. Americans are likely terrified that the extensive lawfare being waged against Trump and others can and will be directed at them if they act or perhaps even speak up incorrectly (e.g., opposing the leftist agenda in any way).

It is not coincidental that the left has accelerated the lawfare as the election looms closer and Biden’s numbers have worsened. Per Gallup, President Biden’s latest quarterly average approval rating hit a new all-time low of 38.7%—which ranks 277th out of 314 presidential quarters in Gallup records dating to 1945—the bottom 12% of all presidential quarters. Gallup points out that not only is Biden’s support weak among Republicans but among independents as well, and there is little indication that it will improve anytime soon. Progressive Democrats now see lawfare as their best chance to produce a result that American voters likely will not.

So, what happens when we follow this path to its end? It is likely that at least one of the kangaroo courts will convict Donald Trump for something criminal. They were giddy about hitting his finances for hundreds of millions of dollars of ridiculous verdicts, but they know that isn’t enough. They need him in jail, and it is more likely than not that they will put him there.

Our mainstream media will cheer. It will be a travesty and a very dark day for America, but don’t expect the left to treat it that way. Anyone who points that out and refuses to acknowledge Donald Trump as a “criminal” or even “felon” will likely be given the J6 treatment by the cabal.

What’s the telling difference between an isolated violation of liberty and a police state? The former is openly identified, condemned, and protested by both the public and the media. In the latter, the public already knows better than to speak up, and the media are complicit. Let us hope that the answer to Mr. Kimball’s question about why more people aren’t up in arms isn’t because we are already there.

The End of Old Left-wing Mythologies ~ VDH

The current radical and often violent protests on mostly blue-state, supposedly elite campuses have exposed in toxic fashion what the left has become. And yet, in a paradoxical fashion, the campus insanity has offered the nation some moral clarity.

What’s surprising is not that the demonstrators are violent and nihilist, but that they are, on the one hand, so openly and crudely anti-Semitic, racist, and anti-American, and yet on the other hand, so passive-aggressive, narcissistic, and weepy.

Nevertheless, the antics of the campus cry-bullies have exploded myths that were for so long foisted on the American people by politicos and the media.

#1. Anti-Israel/Anti-Semitic: We have been lectured ad nauseam that hating Israel has nothing to do with anti-Semitism. The last month has blown up that old shibboleth for good. The left makes no distinction in their eliminationist chants between Israel and Jews. “Go back to Poland” is a homonym for “From the River to the Sea.” Both are shorthand for eliminating Jews—aside from the explicit threats to kill Jews and occasional praise for Hitler and the Final Solution.

When pro-Hamas thugs chase Jews into libraries, block their entrances on campus, and scream “beat the Jew” as they hit piñatas, they do not first ask Jews whether they support Israel—because they could care less. For the Islamist Middle Easterner on a student visa or green card and his useful American student, it is enough that their targets are Jewish—period.

Remember, the protests started on October 7, not on October 27, when the IDF went into Gaza. At that point, campus and street protests merely changed from euphoric triumphalism on the news that Hamas had slaughtered, decapitated, mutilated, raped, or kidnapped hundreds of Jews (“exhilarated,” a Cornell professor gushed of the carnage), to furor and violence. So after three weeks of celebrating dead Jews, the street protests grew furious only when the IDF finally began fighting back and destroying Hamas, even as its terrorists cowardly hid beneath mosques, hospitals, and schools to ensure enough collateral damage to incite pro-Hamas Western throngs.

#2. Pro-Palestinian/Pro-Hamas: The left also blew up the ancient pretense that being “pro-Palestine” was not “pro-Hamas.” But the campus and street demonstrations now make no distinction between the two. The calls for the destruction of Israel and “death to America” come right out of the Hamas credo. Hamas (and Hezbollah as well) logos and flags are easy to find among the protestors. Interviews with the protesters repeatedly reveal massive support for Hamas, to the extent of staging lessons in hand-to-hand combat.

Polls in the Middle East still show strong Gazan support for their one-election/one-time Hamas autocracy. Apparently, any anger that Gazans bear toward Hamas for destroying the peace on October 7, wrecking their state, and getting civilians killed by using them as human shields is outweighed by the plus side on their ledger of the murder of 1200 Jewish civilians. In other words, the campus protests promote the fascistic, terrorist Hamas clique because of, not despite, its murder of Jewish civilians.

#3. “Elite universities.” The Ivy League, the premier UC campuses, Stanford, MIT, and others that considered themselves coveted brands that guaranteed elites their envisioned lucrative career trajectories are sadly becoming the stuff of jest. Ivy-League identification is in a CNN/Bud Lite/Disney freefall. America is getting a bellyful of mollycoddled students’ hatred of Jews, contempt for cops, janitors, and maintenance workers of the middle class, and the racist drivel they shout at African-American law enforcement. At George Washington University, a faculty member, Zein El-Amine, in racist fashion, smeared visiting African-American congressman Byron Donalds (R-Fl) as an “Uncle Tom,” a “bastard,” and a “race traitor.”

The protesting students, in their interviews with the toadish media, sound ignorant and arrogant. As wannabe Bolsheviks, they destroy property and vandalize classrooms and university facilities. The UCLA campus, like the buildings at Columbia and Portland State, was left a fetid mess after the students were cleared out. But then, as helicoptered children, they expect food delivery and catering to fuel their gluten-free nihilism and hoi polloi to clean up after them. Is the message something like, “As we trash your campus buildings, can you please send in some vegan dishes to fuel our destructiveness?”

The moment students speak to cameras, they become reflections of the ongoing wastage of the universities by political indoctrination of the faculty and DEI admissions that dropped the SAT and ignored the comparative high school GPA ranking. Half the shouting student body could not find the Jordan River on a map, define Transjordan, or know that Jews have been in “Palestine” for two millennia prior to the arrival of nomadic Arab invaders.

Universities quietly accept that most of their current students are not qualified to take the very courses these campuses used to brag as proof of their preeminence.

Such ignorance on elite campuses explains the grade inflation of 60-80 percent A’s, new gut classes, and watered-down existing courses. We are learning that at our “elite” campus, roughly a third of undergraduate and graduate students are full-paying foreign students on student visas. Most immigrants arrive from illiberal regimes with generous state funding and are the tip of the spear, fomenting violence and screaming venom at their hosts. They expect exemption from the consequences of their lawlessness and yet seem to harbor nothing but contempt for the accommodating, naïve leniency of universities.

Still, these foreign students’ trademark is, for all their campus braggadocio, abject fright that they might be expelled, deported, and thus have to return to the very Middle East medievalism they now praise from a safe distance.

Add up these days of embarrassing campus rage and Hamas pawns and fronts, and parents and employers are quietly concluding that elite campuses are becoming sources of mediocrity, not prestige, well apart from the violence and the likelihood that classes and graduations can be cancelled at any moment to appease violent protestors. Good students may increasingly avoid these often disturbing places and forego investing $90,000 a year to ensure their own sons and daughters will return home unrecognizable.

#4. “The Left-wing Democrat Base”: The old idea that Antifa, BLM, the Squad, the Obamas, the green extremists, the radical transgendered, and the Hamas/Hezbollah, anti-Semitic base threatened the Democrat Party has been exposed as a sort of fraud. No major Democrat politicians, Joe Biden, especially, can simply condemn the anti-Semitic violence and hate speech— constituting 99 percent of the protestors’ creed—without citing the mythic danger of Islamophobia, of which there is little sign on these campuses. In other words, Democrats would rather airbrush anti-Semitism with moral equivalence blather than dare suggest the pro-Palestinian movement is anti-Semitic.

So the violence at universities continues because left-wing faculty, left-wing administrators, left-wing mayors and city governments, and left-wing governors in these blue states and cities sympathize with the students. They are beginning to clamp down not because of the venomous and overt Jew hatred but because the media optics are terrible.

Their campuses have been turned into trash dumps, analogous to homeless camps—or much worse, given pampered rich kids battle blue-collar police on the premise that injuring cops won’t earn them any jail time, but more likely a campus cachet.

Democrats are terrified the entire revelatory circus will get Trump reelected. The Democrat Party is the Squad. Biden is the most radical president of the last half-century. He and his associates in the Senate want to replace the elected government of Israel; they favor Iran over the moderate Arab regimes. DEI, ESG, abortion on demand, radical transgenderism, open borders, and reparations have now become mainstream Democratic agendas.

#5. “Immigration is Our Strength”: It always has been, and can be again. But the left has misused immigration, legal and illegal, to create new constituencies that too often identify as victims, arrive with claims against their host, and see little need to quickly assimilate.

So in 2024, America has reached an impasse. Nearly 15 percent of the population was not born in the U.S., perhaps over 50 million residents, illegal aliens, and citizens—a record in both percentages and numbers. But the melting-pot’s task of integrating and assimilating newcomers has been all but disappeared, replaced by tribalism, salad-bowl separatism, and convenient and careerist venom expressed at their hosts.

Most immigrants, legal and illegal, now arrive from anti-American and illiberal regimes in Latin America, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. Upon arrival, too many sense American self-loathing and the left’s Marxist binaries of oppressor/oppressed, and thus find victimhood a convenient entry to the American rat race.

Sometimes the failure of both massive illegal and legal immigration is expressed by illegal aliens critiquing their free hotels and food in New York; sometimes with immigrants in Dearborn, led no less by the “Al-Quds Committee, Detroit” chanting “Death to America”; sometimes by Middle Eastern student and opportunistic activists barricading Jewish students in the library at the Cooper Union and banging on the doors screaming anti-Israel expletives—or yet another international soccer match between the U.S. and Mexico, held in Las Vegas or Los Angeles, disrupted and eventually cancelled due to unruly pro-Mexico fans (either illegal aliens, green-card holders, or U.S. citizens), screaming homophobic taunts at American players, supposedly their fellow citizens or fellow residents.

We are now well beyond the dangers of open borders, ten million illegal aliens arriving since the Biden inauguration, or 100,000 fentanyl deaths facilitated by an open border. There are nearly one million foreign students residing in the US, most of them unvetted. At the most recent violent protests, flag burnings, anti-Semitic rantings, and hate America fests, many Middle East students are at the center, assured their lawbreaking is exempt, and claiming they deserve entry into DEI intersectional victimhood.

We need an immigration timeout. That would mean an end to open borders and illegal immigration, but also a reduction of legal immigration to somewhere around 250,000 diverse, self-supporting, educated, and pro-American immigrants admitted on meritocratic criteria who can be quickly integrated into the U.S. body politic.

Joe Biden recently insulted India and Japan as “xenophobic” and said that “they don’t want immigrants.” Some in those libeled nations retorted that if our chaotic open border, 100,000 fentanyl deaths, two million illegal entries a year, and fifty million recent immigrants are the American exemplars, now expressed with daily illegal immigrant violence and campuses hijacked by Hamas agendas, they want no part of it.

In sum, the disastrous last year of the Biden presidency has ripped off the left’s disingenuous veneer. On matters of the Middle East, most protestors on American soil do not distinguish hating Israel from hating Jews. They are unapologetically pro-Hamas, not just pro-Palestinian but pro-terrorist. And the Democrat Party seems fine with all that.

Americans, thanks to the anti-Semitic takeover of their “elite campuses,” realize these prestige universities are by any fair measure no longer hallowed, but rather dens of mediocrity, spoiled and entitled students and faculty, hatred of Jews, disdain for the working class, and home to thousands of racist, foreign students who despise the United States, but not to the degree of returning to their own homelands.

As for the new Democrat Party, it cannot simply condemn anti-Semitism without its wishy-washy tic of citing both-sides “Islamophobia.” In truth, its racial obsessions have now reached full fruition with endemic anti-Semitism, the ultimate expression of a racist DEI industry that sought victimhood and thus found it could spew hatred with impunity.

Finally, the Biden administration has destroyed all support for open borders by welcoming in ten million illegal aliens, shrugging off 100,000 American deaths from imported Mexican fentanyl, and hosting thousands of anti-Semitic, racist Middle East students.

Barack Obama, 21st-Century Schizoid Man

Although not a psychologist, I nevertheless convinced thousands of trusting souls to open their mouths (and wallets) for needles, drills, forceps, foul tastes, strange smells, not-good vibrations, and bills beyond imagination for more than forty years.

And after the obligatory formalities and a couple jabs of the ol’ Novocain had been dispensed with, I’d sit, patiently waiting for profound anesthesia, and provide free psychoanalysis to my patients.

I’d listen carefully — most times — and then, no matter what the patient’s problem was, I’d say, “You have a problem with congruity.”

“Congruity” is having the things you think and deeply believe match up with your actual words and actions.  Most people fall short of absolute congruity, but the smaller the gap, or “schism,” between your talk and your walk, the happier and more fulfilled you are.

And the bigger the schism, the more troubled, angry, and unhappy you are.

With that in mind, who could possibly be more conflicted, disturbed, or downright resentful than the man currently sailing our ship of state into a stone jetty at about ninety knots?

Joe Biden, you say?

No, silly!  He’s not running anything, except maybe his mouth when he’s occasionally allowed to.

Watch the recent video of Crusty Joe trying to eat his dinner at the execrable White House Correspondents’ Dinner.  He’s zoning out on the person talking to him.  He struggles to move salad from the salad plate to his dinner plate.  He then loses interest in the salad and strains mightily to rip a small dinner roll in two, finally transferring half the roll to his dinner plate.

He then loses interest in both the roll and the person animatedly yapping at him, and attempts, ever so slowly, to bring a forkful of greens up to his quivering mouth — a meeting so perilous that it recalls one of the perilous outer space hookups needed for the successful Apollo 11 mission.

No, poor old Joe isn’t running things now, nor was he back when he was “elected” and still had two neurons to rub together.

It’s always been Barack Obama.

Barry O’s the puppet master who’s been running the show for fifteen years now, eight overtly and seven covertly, leading the Deep State efforts against sitting President Trump and later telling senile Joe exactly what to say on notecards and teleprompters.

And who could be more schizoid than the Lightbringer?

He tells the world, as the self-proclaimed first black president, that Whitey is inherently and systemically racist, whether he knows it or not.  And meanwhile, Barry’s half–white supremacist himself!

Imagine hating half of yourself for the sins your distant forefathers may or may have not committed against distant relatives of your other half.  Terribly confusing, no?

And in a love letter, young Obama tells a girlfriend that he feels androgynous and that he “makes love to men daily, in [his] imagination,” a sentence no heterosexual man has ever written, at least in recorded history.  This certainly explains Barry’s love for the LBGTetc. movement, but not his attempt to sell the American electorate on a presidential candidate ostensibly deeply in love with a woman.

And imagine pretending to the American public that you’re a devout Christian, and then saying that the adhan, the Islamic call to prayer, is “one of the prettiest sounds on Earth.”

It’s certainly all right to love Islam and feel that way about the adhan, but why pretend you follow Christ?  And what is it with Obama sending pallets of hard currency under cover of darkness to Iran, the leading sponsor of terror in the world and the people ultimately responsible for October 7?

Christians certainly don’t hate Jews, with whom they share beliefs written down in the Old Testament.  Why does Obama?

The schism between what Barack Obama says he is and what he really is is enormous.  He must be miserable.

He carries on incessantly about the environment and global warming and then buys three mansions with an enormous carbon footprint, one a Hawaiian oceanfront property.  Obama either thinks he personally did stop the rise of the oceans, in which case he’s delusional, or he never worried about it in the first place, in which case he’s a liar.  Which is it, Barry: delusional or liar?

“The One” also claimed that he was president for all people, both in blue states and red.  And then he promptly sicced his CIA, FBI, IRS, and State Dept. — and our vile, supine mainstream media — on President Trump and his followers.  He demonized Christians, whites, males, heterosexuals, the pro-life movement, and above all MAGA-supporters.  No uniter, he.

Obama has habitually harangued the wealthy, pushing them to pay more taxes and asking them, when is enough enough?  But his socialist veneer has worn thin, now that he and Michelle are multi-multi-millionaires.  Barry must lie awake at night, in one of his mansions, wondering when exactly enough is enough.

Poor Obama — so narcissistic, neurotic, and incongruent.  Such a nowhere man, making all his nowhere plans, desperately hoping DJT won’t be re-elected.  He’s black, he’s white, he’s gay, he’s straight, he’s Christian yet loves Iran and the adhan, he was president of the USA for eight years and yet he hates and has often apologized for his country.

He alone makes the sad dried up turnip in the Oval Office’s mouth move and spew socialist venom, even as he, B.O., pretends to care about democracy.  After fifteen years of King Barack’s either overt or covert rule, America has been brought to her knees.

It appears Obama’s psychotic, self-hating persona has permeated the U.S. public’s consciousness (see For Palestine, Jews or Gays).  After this November, either hardworking, God-fearing, patriotic Americans will be running this country, or it will be a deeply conflicted Barack Obama, 21st-century schizoid man.

This is all Obama.

What you see happening right now in New York City. It all started at Columbia University way back in the early 1980’s. Obama was my Columbia U classmate. And now it’s all full circle back to our roots (excuse the pun).

Columbia University is the canary in the coal mine.

George HW Bush talked about “1,000 points of light.” Obama uses “1,000 points of destruction” to achieve his goal- the intentional destruction of America.

You can see it all happening just blocks apart right now – all built around Columbia University and NYC.

Upper Manhattan is where the anarchy at Columbia is on display. The Jew-hatred. The America-hatred. The hatred of capitalism. The desire to destroy the greatest nation in world history, ever blessed by God.

And then a few miles south to lower Manhattan is the courtroom where a rigged communist show trial is happening to destroy the greatest symbol of everything Obama hates- President Donald J. Trump.

One more thing Obama is great at- painting everyone who disagrees with his plans to destroy America as a “racist.” You know the real definition of racist? Anyone winning an argument with a communist.

The main tool of Cloward-Piven was to get the whole country on welfare and food stamps, so the country would be overwhelmed. This creates so much debt, the economy implodes, the country collapses and in this mess, America is reborn as a socialist/communist utopia.

Obama started all of that during his presidency. The spending, taxes and debt exploded. Even though Obama’s friends and donors got filthy rich on Wall Street, Main Street was decimated. By some measures, Obama’s economy was worse than the Great Depression.

Under Obama the number of Americans on welfare, food stamps and a thousand other government programs exploded to well over 100 million.

Then he passed Obamacare to solve a problem that never existed. Healthcare spending exploded. More Americans dependent on government, more debt, more inflation to wipe out the middle class.

But now Obama has perfected his craft.

If you can’t get everyone on welfare, just open the border and wave in the whole poverty-stricken world. Plus the added benefit of all the sick and pregnant of the world to add more massive spending, healthcare spending, welfare and debt until the economy is overwhelmed and America collapses.

Meanwhile you also completely change the demographic makeup of America and replace American citizens with foreign sheep who vote 100% Democrat to keep their welfare checks coming.

And boy did Obama sharpen his use of government as a weapon. I’m a witness. As president he used the IRS to try to destroy me personally.

Today he has weaponized every agency of government and funded 86,000 new IRS agents- many with guns. He uses the DOJ and FBI to destroy President Trump, J6 protestors and soon everyone who stands in the way of the final destruction of America.

Obama and his Marxist comrades use a government partnership with media and social media to push propaganda and misinformation out to the public 24/7, and to censor, silence and ban anyone who tells the truth.

And then there’s the radicalized lynch mobs used as Obama’s army to create chaos and crisis. Today he is behind the anarchy and unrest of this radical anti-Israel, pro-Hamas movement.

Soon the real “Obama Army” will appear- 20 million new illegal aliens- most of them criminals and military age males.

The Trump persecution. The rigged Trump trials. The Jew-hatred. The America-hatred. The open border empowering a foreign invasion. The insane welfare, spending and debt. Exploding healthcare costs.

American Universities Are On A Death Spiral, And We Should Help Them Along

Everyone knows college campuses have been ideological cesspits for years, but the Oct. 7 response is our chance to burn them to the ground.

On March 9, 2023, the Stanford Law School chapter of the Federalist Society invited Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals judge Kyle Duncan to give a talk on campus. Duncan’s conservative and pro-life views aroused the ire of a mob of student demonstrators, who showed up to disrupt the event with signs bearing messages including, “Judge Duncan Can’t Find the Clit.” Protesters repeatedly shouted down Duncan as he tried to give his speech; one yelled at him, “We hope your daughters get raped!”

Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Tirien Steinbach soon arrived on the scene. Instead of attempting to restore order, Steinbach gave a long, hectoring lecture to Duncan, suggesting that his speech “literally denies the humanity of people,” and asking, “Is the juice worth the squeeze?”

This was not a group of undergraduates at some third-rate college protesting an inflammatory conservative partisan like Milo Yiannopoulos (although, to be sure, even provocateurs have free speech rights). This was an assemblage of law students, most well into their mid-twenties or older, at one of the top law schools in the nation, speaking to a well-regarded member of the federal judiciary. The students who shouted down Judge Kyle Duncan are our future legal luminaries, our next generation of judges and law professors.

Now in light of the recent spate of anti-Israel protests on campus, a great many of the left-wing voices who did not raise a finger to stand up for Kyle Duncan, or 100 others like him, have suddenly decided the juice is worth the squeeze. They are now willing to accept the principle that the emotional discomfort caused to Jewish students by anti-Israel and, in more than a few cases, openly pro-Hamas and antisemitic protests on campus is an acceptable sacrifice for the benefits of a vigorous public discussion on a current geopolitical matter.

A principled defender of free speech will, of course, stand up for all kinds of free expression, including that of ideas he may find abhorrent. The First Amendment does indeed protect anti-Israel, and even antisemitic, speech, although it does not protect trespassing, harassment, or violence. And yet the types of speech which one will enthusiastically stand up for, and those which one will reluctantly and reservedly stand up for, reveal a lot about one’s priorities. After decades of throwing up roadblocks to prevent conservative speakers from coming to campus, administrators on these campuses have finally found a form of free speech they will ardently defend: the right to call for the genocide of Jews.

Where’s the Return on the Investment?

The federal government gives $149 billion annually to American universities, including “private” ones such as Harvard. This is far more than we give in foreign aid to Ukraine, or Israel for that matter. For the American taxpayer, this juice is no longer worth the squeeze. American universities are no longer serving the noble societal purpose for which they were intended, and it is time they stop receiving federal funds.

The case for public funding of universities is straightforward: By investing in the human capital of bright young minds, we stand to collectively benefit, both economically and non-economically. Educated citizens possess valuable practical skills that tangibly improve our quality of life. In a less easily quantifiable sense, citizens who have been educated in the Western tradition, whose minds have been elucidated and refined by exposure to the works of great thinkers, and the systems of thought they pioneered, are well-situated to provide the moral leadership of the future.

This is why, in Plato’s Apology, when Socrates stood trial for corrupting the youth of Athens, he audaciously proposed that, instead of being sentenced to death, he should be rewarded with “maintenance in the Prytaneum” — that is, free meals so he could philosophize on the public dime. By educating the citizenry, Socrates was performing a vital societal function, and it is this presupposition on which the public modern university is based.

An ideologically committed economic libertarian would oppose any public funding of higher education on principle. My sympathies are with this camp, but one does not even need to share this view to appreciate my argument. For those who take a more pragmatic approach, the question becomes a straightforward, if not always simple, one of cost versus benefit. And by any standard, the great universities of this nation no longer provide us anything like the sort of benefit we would expect for our collective investment.

Molding Morons, Not Luminaries

The universities do not uphold the Western tradition. They openly spurn it. Unlike Socrates, they do not produce new generations of Platos and Aristotles. Instead, they churn out morons who spout half-baked slogans about colonialism and oppression. There are no luminaries emerging from these exalted institutions. It is insane for any nation to fund its own destroyers, and many students of our top universities openly hate America. This is no secret conspiracy. They will say so if you ask them, explaining in elaborate (albeit erroneous) detail how our nation is built on “stolen land” and “the backs of slaves.”

These protesters’ hatred of Israel should be alarming to all patriotic Americans, whatever we may think about the current conflict. It is primarily an outgrowth of their hatred for America and the West, of which they correctly see Israel as an outpost. Upon graduation, these products of elite colleges, bolstered by the skills they have learned and the connections they have made, quickly embed themselves in every major institution in the country: entertainment, media, law, science, and business.

It would be a mistake to deny that our universities provide any benefit at all. Even now, many of our top campuses can still offer a world-class education in the STEM fields. And much of the federal funding for higher education admittedly goes to legitimate scientific and technological research, not to the objectionable departments. Yet even this targeted aid frees up other money to be funneled to far-left disciplines. Revoking the funding would force universities to prioritize: Do we jettison physics and biology? Or lesbian dance theory and jihad studies?

In any case, science can hardly function in a culture where the ideological framework undergirding scientific rationality has been eroded by postmodernist ideology. These technical skills are only positive when utilized in pursuit of the good. In an immoral society, they are useless or actively harmful. It was the Western tradition that led to the great technological advances we enjoy, and they cannot be sustained if that tradition is eradicated.

These campuses, as most of us know all too well, have been ideological cesspits for years. In 2020, as America burned from the Mostly Peaceful Protests, presidents of top universities fell over themselves in their efforts to see who could most obsequiously heap praise on Black Lives Matter. But the rot goes back even further, to the violent student revolts of the 1960s. This era, unfairly valorized in the public memory, has become the campus radicals’ Finest Hour, to which all their subsequent demonstrations hark back. Many of the current anti-Israel protests have, indeed, been quite open about the fact that they are coasting on nostalgia for the Vietnam-era antiwar movement.

However, the Oct. 7 response may have been a meaningful turning point. To see students, and even some professors, at major American institutions justifying a brutal Islamic terror attack against civilians was a bridge too far for many. It did not surprise anyone who had been paying attention, particularly since 2020 during the university-sanctioned Black Lives Matter riots, but it surprised a good number of casual observers. Now is the time to capitalize on the public discontent and take the final step.

There is a risk that defunding these universities will push them further into the hands of foreign donors, including those from openly hostile nations such as China, with fewer scruples about funding anti-American ideology. Well, let them. If the institutions are going to embark on a death spiral, it is our job to help them along.

Campuses such as the Ivy Leagues, with their storied centuries-old history, should optimally be salvaged and rededicated to their laudable mission, but if they cannot, then scuttling them will suffice. Perhaps something new can be built on their ashes. At best, the threat of losing their federal funds can be used to scare these universities straight.

To defund the universities at present, with Democrats controlling the White House and Senate, is of course a pipe dream. But one day, whether in 2025 or later, Republicans will again have tripartite control. When they do, they should not for a moment forget just how much damage the universities have done America, and they should make defunding them a top legislative priority. We cannot afford to wait any longer.

A Quick, Telling Little Internet Search

As we see these spoiled, entitled brat adults on college campuses playing Jihad for Justice, it occurred to me to do a quick search on the Internet to see if I was missing something. What was the thing I wanted to see if I was missing? What the major contribution to our species is from Palestinians. 

It sounds odd because it is odd. It’s never occurred to me before to search for inventions from any group of people, mostly because I didn’t care. People are people, if someone of a different race or ethnicity came up with something, I didn’t spend any time thinking about it as a contribution to humanity by anything other than fellow humans. 

It’s something that the Democratic Party and the world-wide progressive movement has made controversial – a color blind society. 

But it was more than that, I not only didn’t look for skin color on things, I didn’t care. Still don’t. 

You can’t miss it, obviously, because we have eyes, but who gives a damn about it? Leftists, that’s who.

They care deeply about it, and obsess about it the way a junkie thinks about whatever they’re addicted to. They are addicted to victimization and hate, and separating people is the easiest way to get what they want and to distract people from them doing it. 

They march and chant for the people of Gaza as though they are the most oppressed humans on the planet, not people who, when they had the chance at self-determination went and elected terrorists who immediately took away their right to vote. They didn’t seem to be bothered, never having risen up against Hamas or even really given them anywhere near a majority of disapproval in any polls ever conducted. 

When no water treatment plants were constructed by the Hamas “government” over the nearly 20 years they had control, but hundreds of miles of terrorist tunnels and an untold fortune was spent on rockets to randomly launch toward Israel, no one seemed to mind. A little weird, isn’t it?

That’s not to mention the lack of food production or anything a normal government would do to make its population self-sustaining and you might think empowering terrorists was not the brilliant idea people living in tents drum circle it to be.

So, I wondered what contributions to human existence came out of Gaza and the West Bank. Sure, it had to be some great, important things to make a people so worthy of uprooting everything in life over. 

It turns out, there are reasons literally no Arab country in the world will take any Palestinian refugees, and it’s not that they’re all bigoted against them. Turns out, they don’t make the best guests. 

Much like Ilhan Omar’s feeling of entitlement after the US was kind enough to rescue her from her own country, she favors the people oppressing her over those who saved her from them. The people of Gaza love Hamas. No matter how many are used as human shields, they prefer their oppressor. It’s hard to care about someone complaining about a headache when you’re watching them hit themselves in the head with a frying pan. 

So, like I said, I looked up Palestinian inventions. Billions of dollars have poured into the hands of their leadership, it couldn’t have all been stolen, right? Sure, Arafat’s daughter is a literal billionaire living in Europe off what daddy, um, “earned” by walking away from an independent state, and the current leadership of Hamas is living in Qatar like platinum selling rappers, but surely some made it to the people and fostered innovation, right?

Not so much. 

Granted, I didn’t conduct an exhaustive search, just a quick one. But the left-wing Wikipedia tells me there isn’t a while bunch. I hope you were sitting down for that, shocking as it must be. 

Fully 10 of the 17 things listed under “Palestinian Inventions” are weapons, mostly various forms of rockets. The rest? No cures or treatments for diseases, no technological advancements, just a cheese, a soap (which the protesting mutants could use), a chicken dish, embroidery, a spice and the Arafat Head Doily. That’s it.

Maybe all that energy, good will and money – lots and lots of money – would have been better spent in other ways than terrorism. Maybe the time of these college mutants would be better spent extolling the virtues of freedom and responsibility rather than terrorism and victimhood. Crazy, I know, but when something is shown to not work, or to be destructive, smart people usually try something else. Then again, there’s the high probability that no one protesting is actually a smart person.
