Indict Walt Nauta? Why Not the Biggest Liars First? ~ VDH

The last thing this country needs is any more bottled-piety lectures on the rule of law from Special Counsel Jack Smith, Joe Biden, and the array of admitted lying former high government officials.

Walt Nauta is a 10-year-Navy veteran and served as an aide to former President Trump both in and out of office.

Special Counsel Jack Smith has now indicted him for allegedly “making false statements in interviews with the FBI.” The indictment’s subtext is that Nauta refused to cooperate with, and turn state’s evidence to, the special counsel in its efforts to convict the former president.

But why stop the indictments with a man who loyally served and followed the orders of the former president of the United States, was a Navy veteran, and a hard-working immigrant from Guam?

Are there not far bigger fish to fry to remind Americans that justice is blind?

After all, when Special Counsel Smith announced his indictments of Trump, he lectured America on the rule of law and the cherished notion that no one is above it.

So let us start with the former interim director of the FBI itself, Andrew McCabe.

McCabe admittedly lied four times about his illegally leaking sensitive information to witnesses and mishandling classified information.

Have those crimes suddenly ceased being felonies?

Or is it now the policy of the United States government that an FBI director can lie with impunity, and leak, and mishandle sensitive classified information?

Yet Walt Nauta may be sent to prison while McCabe will continue to earn a fine salary at CNN as a paid “expert” to deplore . . . what exactly?

What McCabe knows best from his own experience with the deed—the “mishandling of classified information”?

Nauta reportedly is being indicted for claiming he “did not know” what he supposedly did know in relation to the movement of the president’s papers.

His denial was proffered with nearly the exact phraseology that another FBI director, James Comey, used under oath when he stonewalled congressional inquisitors on 245 occasions.

Was the FBI director ever indicted for feigning ignorance or amnesia before Congress?

Did Nauta ever record a private, and likely classified, conservation he had with the president of the United States in the White House, and then leak it to the New York Times

That is precisely what James “Higher Loyalty” Comey bragged about doing.

Most recently, Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm admitted that she, too, recently lied while under oath to Congress when she denied owning private stocks.

Was Nauta’s “I don’t know” a greater threat to the rule of law and the security of the republic than the lies of the secretary of Energy? She deliberately misled Congress about potential conflicts of interest involving her stock portfolio.

Then we come to Joe Biden, the current president of the United States. He has sworn that he never discussed business with his son, Hunter Biden, currently under suspicion for tax improprieties and leveraging foreign governments by selling them supposed Biden influence.

Yet plenty of witnesses have contradicted Joe Biden’s statement. Photos even reveal him side-by-side with his son’s business associates.

For nearly 20 years, Senator, Vice President, private citizen, and President Joe Biden has concealed the fact he unlawfully took classified documents home and moved them about in various unsecured locations.

Was Mr. Biden’s movement of classified documents for the last 20 years less egregious than what Nauta is accused of having done?

Was the Biden Corvette garage more secure than the closets and bathrooms inside the Mar-a-Lago gated estate?

Biden’s lawyers, after nearly two decades, only came forward because of the media hype surrounding the FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago in search of classified documents.

Is there some law that states that a senator, vice president, and president can improperly remove classified documents, move them about to various unsecured locations, and avoid the sort of felony indictments now facing Nauta and Trump?

Let us end with the greatest exemptions of all—those accorded to Hillary Clinton.

She has variously committed the following likely major felonies.

One, she illegally transmitted classified information involving national security over her own unsecure server while secretary of state.

Two, she destroyed both email records and communication devices that were under government subpoena.

Three, she was untruthful about both the use and destruction of said subpoenaed items.

Four, she illegally hired a foreign national, Christopher Steele, to work on her campaign as an opposition researcher.

Five, she conspired to disseminate false documents among top government intelligence and investigatory agencies as well as the media, for the sole purpose of destroying her presidential opponent Donald Trump and thereby warping the 2016 election process.

And?

Clinton—like self-confessed liars or dissimulators John Brennan, former CIA Director,  James Clapper, former Director of National Intelligence, and former FBI Directors James Comey and Andrew McCabe—was exempted from all legal jeopardy. She, too, continues to monetize her past notorieties and controversies.

The last thing this country needs is any more bottled-piety lectures on the rule of law from Special Counsel Jack Smith, Joe Biden, and the array of admitted lying former high government officials.

They, not Walt Nauta, should be ashamed.

The War on Trump Continues

If the country was in good health politically
it would be fine to have a heated primary. We are not.

We are living in a political war the likes of which this country has never seen. Politics is always filled with lies and deceit. This is something different. The society-wide use of political narratives, gaslighting, and disinformation designed to confuse and disorient the American people is unprecedented. Now add to this the indictment of President Donald Trump on charges relating to classified documents—documents he had the unilateral constitutional authority to declassify at his own discretion—and we see the weaponization of government taken to new lows.

Let us first state the obvious. The presidency of Donald Trump revealed to the American people the corruption of our ruling class with striking clarity. Trump also revealed the nature of our enemies abroad. Because President Trump had the courage to stand up against both the political and financial elites who run the United States and the malfeasance of the Chinese Communist Party, a war was waged against his presidency, the American people, and our way of life.

For millions of Americans who believe in liberty and who believe this country can be saved—namely, the MAGA movement—Trump embodies the manly principles of independence. These Americans want Trump to be president again.

The War Against Trump

That Trump would even run for president again seems fanciful. The Durham report released in May reveals an American intelligence community that was well organized and determined to advance a sophisticated disinformation campaign against him. This campaign was not unlike those the U.S. government runs against foreign enemies of the United States. As a matter of high government policy, the Obama Administration disseminated falsehoods about Trump and the Russian government to undermine his chances of winning in 2016 and, after he won anyway, to bring down his presidency and undermine the political agenda for which he was elected.

These were not rogue actors behaving contrary to agency policy. These were the leaders of the intelligence community from CIA Director John Brennan, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, FBI Director James Comey, and Attorney General Loretta Lynch. They established among intelligence operatives, the large number of so-called journalists that fancy themselves part of their apparatus, and members of Congress like Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) the false narrative that Donald Trump was somehow a traitor to his country.

Trump mistakenly believed that his focus on rebuilding the American economy and relying on the Republican establishment for support would be sufficient to win him reelection. This served him ill in his bid for reelection in 2020. The American Left had established a narrative—which is to say, a lie—and were disciplined in its propagation: Donald Trump was a racist and a Russian agent of influence, they insisted, so anything, and everything, should be done to ensure that he was not reelected. This narrative was advanced by an army of radical leftists from Antifa and Black Lives Matter on the ground, to George Soros and Mark Zuckerberg and a network of dark money organizations, some associated with the Chinese Communist Party, financing multiple independent operations to ensure that the changes in the election laws allowing for the universal use of mail-in balloting—changes that were on their face unconstitutional—could be exploited for maximum advantage. That this was a Marxist-style revolution was plain for anyone with eyes to see.

Add to this that COVID-19 came out of nowhere, created, it would appear in retrospect, for the political effect it would have on the United States. That COVID-19 could have been part of a political war against Trump by the Communist Chinese was ignored by the intelligence community and the mainstream media. This despite the fact that in May 2019, Communist China, through its People’s Daily, had declared a “People’s War” against the United States.

The reason for the People’s War was that President Trump, in his negotiations with China over trade, had demanded that the theft of American intellectual property cease immediately. This theft amounted to roughly $600 billion annually or $6 trillion over the past decade. China’s Communists believe it is their right to steal such intellectual property from us and that President Trump demanding otherwise amounted to an act of war. Within six months of that declaration, COVID-19 was spreading throughout the world. In another six months, the world would be locked down, profoundly altering the American political landscape. Donald Trump, an American president who had established his political popularity through the use of large-scale citizen rallies, would now have his campaign relegated largely to the tender mercies of a news media that stood in opposition to him and had already decided he should be removed from office.

With America in lockdown and its major cities on fire due to race riots, Americans were asked to believe that Joe Biden received almost 12 million more votes than did Barack Obama at his most popular. This, despite the fact he did not campaign and was surrounded by political supporters who believed America was a racist and immoral country, should defund the police, and that open borders—and a wave of illegal immigrants—was the only just policy to remake our society.

It requires a special kind of self-deception to believe that platform could have been a game-changer for so many Americans. Indeed, this is among the reasons 60 percent of the American electorate believes the 2020 election was stolen. Claims of a thorough investigation and showing election fraud “thoroughly debunked” are pure gaslighting. The Left openly boasted about an industrial level effort on the part of dark money groups to manufacture votes for Biden.

Is Trump Electable?

Some of what I have laid out might seem disqualifying. Who should run for president with the whole world standing against him? Who should run for president when one’s own party appears completely incompetent to challenge the radical Left? Who indeed?

In one sense it doesn’t matter whether Donald Trump wanted to run for re-election or not. The American people wanted him to run. For his people—the MAGA movement—he is the only thing standing between them and destruction for the American way of life.

President Trump’s framing of his political beliefs into the simple phrase, “Make America Great Again,” is far more than a slogan. As the political scientist John Marini has argued, it is an indictment of the progressive elites who occupy our government, our universities, the entertainment industry, Wall Street, and the news media. Moreover, it signals a fundamental shift in our politics: the rejection of the Progressive idea itself.

President Trump articulated what common sense already told most Americans: that their lives would not be happier managed by an army of bureaucrats, that American security is not dependent on maintaining endless wars abroad, and that American jobs and the prosperity of the American middle class are good and important things. Trump not only believed these things, he laid out concrete steps to make them a reality.

Trump’s power is not so much intellectual as it is visceral. Put simply, his supporters believe that he is on their side. He is on the side of the working man, the forgotten man, the American who wakes up in the morning and goes to work to build a better future for his family. That is what “Make America Great Again” is all about. It was a defense of the American way of life, as Thomas Klingenstein has argued. To abandon Trump now is to abandon the people who were moved by the MAGA movement. At one level it would be a betrayal. At another it would just be bad politics.

The MAGA movement today has all the energy in American politics, made more so by this indictment. President Trump has captured the imagination of millions, perhaps tens of millions, of Americans who were not part of American political life for the past two decades. They are only engaged in American politics because of him.

 Are There Alternatives to Trump?

Only one person, of course, stands as an alternative to President Trump: Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. He is indeed a good man and is the governor of an important state. DeSantis wishes to lead his country to recover American liberty. And he has proven in Florida that he can advance policies for the betterment of the working men and women of his state. His defense of American families and his keen desire to check the corrosive effects of woke corporatism are to be applauded at every turn. What the governor lacks is an understanding of the moment we are in and the power and loyalty of the MAGA movement.

The American people know Trump. A substantial portion of the American electorate loves Donald Trump. They watched him for 20 years on his television show “The Apprentice.” They saw him as president of the United States. They saw their real wages increase. They saw peace and prosperity. They saw a president making good on his promise to stop illegal immigration. They saw a president unapologetically on their side against the mainstream media and Communist China.

The same cannot be said of DeSantis. He is not a household name and the American people do not have decades’ worth of experience knowing him or what he thinks about a variety of issues. Whatever the appeal of his résumé, none of it translates on television or even in speeches. And his campaign announcement on Twitter was misguided in a number of ways.

DeSantis believed by using Twitter he was speaking to the American people, which was his first huge mistake. In truth, he was speaking to and through the tech oligarchs who have done so much to corrupt American freedom and our ability to communicate honestly with one another. Witness Twitter and Facebook’s cooperation with the intelligence agencies of more than one country to manipulate Americans’ opinions.

DeSantis wanted to give the impression that Big Tech and social media were on his side and that they would help magnify his message as he seeks to win the Republican nomination. But Elon Musk’s fortune is dependent on the acquiescence of the Chinese Communist Party. His multi-billion dollar Tesla investments in China are held hostage by them. It is entirely unclear how far Musk and Twitter will go in allowing DeSantis, if he is indeed their preferred candidate, to present an America First agenda that is at odds with his Communist Chinese overlords.

After running against President Trump in the primary and especially after the federal indictment, why would DeSantis believe he could win over the millions of voters in the MAGA movement? Even if Trump dropped out today, how likely is it that the MAGA base will embrace DeSantis? Even with all the great things he has done in Florida, and even if he is the future leader of the Republican Party, who is Ron DeSantis to the MAGA movement if he will not stand with Donald Trump now?

Trump Without the Baggage

But wouldn’t DeSantis be “Trump without the baggage?” This is a naïve way of looking at things. What baggage exactly are we talking about? If it is the lawfare being waged against Trump at an unprecedented level by the Department of Justice and New York state officials, that is a fair point. But what makes people so sure no lawfare will be waged against DeSantis? Is the governor somehow immune from this form of political warfare?

If by “baggage” the governor’s supporters mean Trump’s stance on a variety of issues, that is a different matter altogether. DeSantis and Trump share similar if not exact views on illegal immigration; that means they will both be called racist. They are both pro-life and pro-family which means they will both be “alienating” the ever elusive suburban white woman. There are differences between them, to be sure, but DeSantis is not so much “Trump without baggage” as “Trump without MAGA.”

In any event, if DeSantis supporters think the array of Marxist dark money groups that are already in operation throughout the country will not turn their guns on the governor because he is not Donald Trump, they are fools.

If there is a genuine difference between DeSantis and Trump, it is that President Trump stands alone and apart from the network of Republican donors who are more than happy to make their peace with the oligarchs on Wall Street, Silicon Valley, and in Communist China. Ron DeSantis needs many of those donors if he is ever to win the presidency. President Trump does not need them.

It is worth stating that the first term of the Trump Administration was not perfect. That is perhaps the reason DeSantis is running. Having to rely mainly on Republican Party operatives, Trump was unable to build a team of people to challenge the administrative state, let alone dismantle it. These failings were decisive in the handling of Russiagate and then with the response to COVID-19 in submitting to Anthony Fauci and the CDC’s outsized influence.

The absence of genuine MAGA defenders at the cabinet level undercut what Trump might have achieved as president. Much of what he did achieve—and those achievements were substantial—was in spite of the actual agencies that made up his government. Thankfully, these lessons appear to have been learned. Efforts on a number of fronts to build a new administration that will be both principled and capable are well underway.

The Road Ahead

It must be said, however, that the odds of a Republican winning in 2024 and into the future are slim. The task is not insurmountable, but very difficult to be sure. No one should have any illusion otherwise, despite very favorable polls for Trump. There is a multibillion dollar political machine at work on behalf of the American Left, and aided by Communist China, which does not want to see an America First president in the White House. That political machine has a near lock on the six swing states Trump lost in 2020.

There is every reason to expect the 2024 election will be run just like the 2020 election. Indeed, it is likely to be conducted in an even more ruthless way simply because left-wing elected officials at both the federal and state levels, having crossed so many lines in pursuit of power, cannot risk a restoration of the rule of law. The political Right—most especially the Republican National Committee—has not built a political effort to ensure a fair election is possible. Whether one can be built in time is yet to be seen.

This indictment of President Trump was an act of intimidation. It was not designed to uphold the law but to twist it for a political end, namely the demoralization of the MAGA movement and the removal of President Trump as a political candidate. The indictment was also geared toward those within the Republican establishment who oppose the MAGA agenda and seek an alternative in DeSantis, Pence, or Christie. They will point to President Trump’s legal problems as evidence that these candidates should stay in the race, even when there is little support for them from voters.

If the country was in good health politically it would be fine to have a heated primary. We are not. The country is coming apart and the time grows short in which we will be able to fix it. If it is going to be fixed it will not be by the Republican establishment, specifically current elected officials and the RNC. They would be more than happy to see Trump lose again.

Common sense would dictate now is the time to unite behind President Trump since he is the one man that has a chance of bringing enough political forces—most especially the MAGA movement—to bear on the crisis at hand. This will require organization the likes of which we have not seen before on the political Right. And it will require the blessings of Almighty God on the American people that they will rise up against the dark, demonic forces that have enveloped this world and corrupted so much of this country.

Trump Indictment Timeline Reeks Of Deep State Information Operation

Was last week’s timing a coincidence?

Former President Donald Trump was indicted on the same day FBI Director Christopher Wray caved to House Republicans and allowed members of the Oversight Committee to view an agency document demanded by the GOP.

The document, an unclassified FD-1023 form, is said to implicate President Joe Biden in a criminal bribery scheme from his time as vice president. According to Republican lawmakers who viewed the document in a secure room on Capitol Hill, the document from a credible confidential informant contains evidence President Biden took a $5 million-dollar bribe from a “foreign national.” That foreign national, Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley says, is an executive at Burisma, the Ukrainian energy company that showered Hunter Biden on the board in excess compensation.

“According to the 1023, the foreign national possesses 15 audio recordings of phone calls between him and Hunter Biden,” Grassley said on the Senate floor Monday, with 17 recordings in “total.”

Grassley’s bombshell floor speech brought the Biden bribery scandal back into the news cycle after FBI officials sought to suppress coverage of the scheme with Trump’s second indictment. Biden’s Republican predecessor and lead contender for the GOP’s 2024 presidential nomination surrendered to federal officials Tuesday, giving Biden something in common with Russian President Vladimir Putin: both of their chief political opponents are under arrest.

Was last week’s timing a coincidence? Not if you see the latest episode in the arrest-Trump movement for what it is: the natural continuation of the failed Russia hoax eight years ago.

Brinkmanship For Biden

FBI Director Wray was on the cusp of contempt charges last week when the agency chief relented to House Republicans and brought the requested document to Capitol Hill for every member of the Oversight Committee to review.

A whistleblower first revealed the existence of the document to Senator Grassley and House Oversight Chairman James Comer of Kentucky more than a month ago. The pair of top GOP lawmakers issued a subpoena for the unclassified form on May 3.

“We believe the FBI possesses an unclassified internal document that includes very serious and detailed allegations implicating the current President of the United States,” Grassley said. “What we don’t know is what, if anything, the FBI has done to verify these claims or investigate further. The FBI’s recent history of botching politically charged investigations demands close congressional oversight.”

Wray initially refused lawmakers’ request and withheld the document from Capitol Hill. In a six-page letter to Congress, the bureau argued the document was insignificant and that disclosure would compromise “confidential human” informants.

If Comer wanted to see it, the agency later said, he would have to travel to the FBI headquarters on Pennsylvania Avenue.

“Anything short of producing these documents to the House Oversight Committee is not in compliance with the subpoena,” Comer warned in May.

The FBI director then allowed Comer to review the document with Maryland Democrat Rep. Jamie Raskin, the ranking member on the Oversight Committee, in a Capitol SCIF.

Raskin tried to dismiss Republican accusations with a statement alleging the investigation had been shut down under Attorney General Bill Barr during the Trump administration. In an exclusive interview with The Federalist, however, the former attorney general debunked Raskin’s claims.

“On the contrary,” Barr said, “it was sent to Delaware for further investigation.”

Comer moved forward with contempt proceedings after reviewing the FD-1023 when the agency refused to release the document. The House Oversight Chairman canceled the resolution to hold Wray in contempt on Wednesday, June 7, on the eve of Trump’s indictment. The contempt resolution was abandoned when Wray allowed the rest of the Oversight Committee to review the document.

In other words, Wray ran out the clock as the Justice Department prepared to issue the first-ever federal indictment of a former president.

Document Shows Exactly What Grassley, Comer Said It Would

Wray attempted to bury the news in Trump’s indictment as Comer previewed the blockbuster allegations that would surface from the FBI record. Once members of the Oversight Committee emerged from the SCIF on Capitol Hill, GOP lawmakers confirmed the document as the bombshell Comer and Grassley said it was.

Republican Reps. Byron Donalds of Florida and Andy Biggs of Arizona told NBC News the allegations were legitimate and said the human source for the document has been on FBI payroll for years.

Florida Republican Rep. Anna Paulina Luna said the document was grounds for impeachment.

“It’s very likely this president is going to be impeached — and by that I mean Joe Biden,” Luna said.

Colorado Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert spoke directly to millions with a video published on social media after she reviewed the record.

“This document memorialized the testimony of a trustworthy whistleblower who worked for the FBI for over a decade,” Boebert said.

On Monday, Grassley suggested more will come out with 17 recordings kept by Burisma founder Mykola Zlochevsky “as a sort of insurance policy.”

“I want everyone to remember that I have read the unredacted version,” Grassley said on the Senate floor.

Trump, meanwhile, is now undergoing trial for alleged mishandling of classified documents despite President Biden having harbored classified information across several locations from his time as vice president. Senate Republicans endorsed the political prosecution with silence, while House Republicans condemned the indictment as a partisan witch hunt.

Senior Space Force Officer Attacks Anti-Grooming and Mutilation Laws, Says They Damage Readiness

Senior Space Force Officer Attacks Anti-Grooming and Mutilation Laws, Says They Damage Readiness

streiff reporting for RedState

Last week began a veritable bacchanalia of celebrations of “PRIDE” month by the US Armed Forces. Why a military that has gone 0-2 in the last 20 years and is sucking swamp water in recruiting would want to devote a month to celebrating sexual deviance is beyond me, but that is where we are. The Air Force seems to have aimed for the stars (‘Embarrassing’: Air Force Twitter Account Sparks Outrage After Going Way Too Far in Honor of ‘Pride Month’ and Air Force Using Taxpayer Dollars to Fly Service Members to Pride Events).

In the interest of interservice fairness, I’d like to point out that “Harpy Daniels,” the trans/drag/whatever the Navy had appointed to be “Digital (ewww) Ambassador” (see Rum, Buggery, and the Lash Makes a Comeback as the US Navy Fights Recruiting Woes; Well, Better Hold the Rum) performs with his equivalent in the US Army. This has nothing to do with PRIDE month but because I have a kid in the USAF and don’t want them to feel picked on more than usual.

All joking aside, one of the most telling episodes underscoring the damage done to the military by celebrating what was, up until not that long ago, a felony under the UCMJ took place at the Pentagon’s 12th Annual LGBTQ+ Pride Month Celebration on June 7.

The keynote speaker was Deputy Chief of Space Operations for Operations, Cyber, and Nuclear, Lieutenant General Deanna Burt.

Since January of this year, more than 400 anti-LGBTQ+ laws have been introduced at the state level. That number is rising and demonstrates a trend that could be dangerous for servicemembers, their families, and the readiness of the force as a whole.

When I look at potential candidates, say, for squadron command, I strive to match the right person to the right job. I consider their job performance and relevant experience first. However, I also look at their personal circumstances, and their family is also an important factor. It’s a good match for a job does not feel safe being themselves and performing at their highest potential at a given location, or if their family could be denied critical health care due to the laws in that state, I am compelled to consider a different candidate and perhaps less qualified.

Those barriers are a threat to our readiness, and they have a direct correlation to the resiliency and well-being of our most important operational advantage: our people. The Department of Defense’s success depends on getting the most from every person on the team. Each team member deserves, at a minimum, to be treated with respect and dignity and to serve in an environment which they can grow and thrive.

The diverse and inclusive tapestry of the Department of Defense must continue to embrace the LGBTI+ plus community. A 2022 poll showed that almost 20 percent of the people born between the years of 1997 and 2004 identifies LGBTQ+. That means without proper policies, messaging, and allies; we are potentially alienating 20 percent, 20 percent, of the key demographic and age group that we are looking for to recruit. And remember, the DpD is experiencing recruiting shortfalls across the entire enterprise.

Diversity, inclusion are both force multipliers and warfighting imperatives that enable our competitive advantage against adversaries. We must be able to draw from the best and brightest talent across our nation to develop and retain a force comprised of backgrounds, experiences, and skill sets as diverse as the challenges we face as a nation.

To get after this in the space force, for example, we ask each Guardian to embody the Guardian Spirit. The Guardian Spirit is a collective representation of what it means to be a member of the United States Space Force. Those with the Guardian Spirit are principled public servants possessing character. Beyond question, they are space-minded warfighters committed to mastering the profession of arms. Guardians are bold and collaborative problem solvers exemplifying the courage to debate new ideas and continually challenge the status quo. They connect with teammates to experiment, fail, learn, adapt, and innovate.

No matter the challenge, the Guardian Spirit says nothing about which bathroom they use or which gender or sex they are.

Thank you.

Of course, there is the usual nonsense about diversity and inclusion being essential for mission success. I’d like to see an example of this just once. The British Army, which was the best army in the world for nearly two centuries, recruited regiments from within a zone. The early Highland regiments were raised by clan chieftains from their kinsmen. They managed to raise extraordinary military formations from Indian, Himalayan, and Pakistani tribal levies by hewing to homogeneity. One of the key reasons the Afghan National Army that we spent 20 years and billions of dollars trying to make look like a fighting force folded like a cheap suit was that, unlike the Brits, we insisted that each battalion be a proportional demographic slice of Afghan tribes. For any “diverse” French Foreign Legion you can name, I can give you a dozen homogenous counterexamples.

What is stunning is that even by the standards of the military run into the ground by Lloyd Austin and Mark Milley, this is an extraordinarily partisan political speech. The fact that it was televised by the Pentagon and not behind closed doors shows the Pentagon was sending a message to the nation about its enthusiasm for exotic sexual practices and disfiguring surgery.

Any military officer, particularly a senior one, launching a fact-free attack on laws passed by several states is just stupid. This kind of statement would run perilously close to violating Article 88, UCMJ, if uttered by a commissioned officer stationed in Florida or 18 other states. It is terrible leadership to encourage subordinates to get involved in state and local politics, not to mention a violation of the Hatch Act, and it is stupid politics to create a House and Senate voting bloc opposed to your service.

What is most stunning is Burt’s claim that she has sandbagged officers slated to take command of units located in states of which she disapproves because of an inchoate fear that they or their families would be in danger. She says she’s had to slate other, less qualified officers in those positions. The subtext, of course, is that all the top-quality Space Force officers possess some exotic sexuality or inclination. Therefore, any straight white male you find commanding in more backward states is a second-stringer.

I suspect this is utter bullsh**, but as it was a public statement and “against penal interest,” as Law & Order’s Jack McCoy would say, it merits investigation by the DOD Inspector General. If the facts match her bluster, she should be shown the door at a couple of lower grades.

Over the last eight years, I’ve become convinced that the “long march” through the Defense Department has been accomplished and that institution is largely enemy territory. I saw the first inkling of that in 1992 when the senior officers I worked for in the Pentagon were unanimously and openly pro-Clinton. Should we be fortunate enough to get another Republican in the White House, one of the first orders of business has to be taking a page from George C. Marshall’s playbook. He looked deep into the officer corps for men who could fight and win the next world war and ruthlessly replaced the entrenched hierarchy. Eight years has been enough time to draw the enemy out into the open and initiate a purge — minus the bullet in the back of the head because that would be wrong — that would make Josef Stalin jealous.
