There's Something about MAGA

In So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish (the fourth book in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy "trilogy of six books"), Douglas Adams brutalizes "democracy" in a hilarious exchange:

"On its world, the people are people.  The leaders are lizards.  The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people."

"Odd," said Arthur.  "I thought you said it was a democracy."

"I did," said Ford.  "It is."

"So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?"

"It honestly doesn't occur to them," said Ford.  "They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they voted in more or less approximates to the government they want."

"You mean they actually vote for the lizards?"

"Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course."

"But," said Arthur, going in for the big one again, "why?"

"Because if they didn't vote for a lizard," said Ford, "the wrong lizard might get in."

That is America's Uniparty system in a nutshell!  Republican, Democrat, whatever — they're all lizards.  Then someone who doesn't speak lizard comes along — Donald Trump — and the "democracy" loses its collective mind.  The Intelligence Community spies on his campaign.  The FBI insinuates that he's a Russian spy.  The press calls for his removal and incarceration.  Unethical prosecutors and judges go after anyone who might be called his friend.  The Uniparty harasses him with endless investigations.  The Pentagon and agency bureaucrats ignore his lawful orders and spread gossip and lies.  The Department of (in)Justice and left-leaning local tyrants persecute his supporters with spurious criminal charges that ruin lives but, more importantly, blare a warning to all Americans: if you dare to vote for a non-lizard, we will target you as extremists, lock you up as insurrectionists, threaten all you hold dear, and terrorize your lives!  All this calculated Uniparty and Deep State destruction because so many in Washington so despise the idea of making America great again that they choose to imbecilically slander that notion as racist!

When President Trump took the stage at this year's Conservative Political Action Conference and pledged to "totally obliterate the Deep State" if voters re-elected him, he made it crystal-clear that the war between the people and the lizards will be one for the ages.  "In 2016, I declared I am your voice.  Today, I add, I am your warrior.  I am your justice.  And for those who have been wronged and betrayed, I am your retribution."  If you didn't already know he was wearing his iconic navy suit, white shirt, and red tie, you'd have thought that Johnny Cash's "Man in Black" had just walked in announcing, "There's a man going around taking names / And he decides who to free and who to blame."  He might as well have just admitted to the crowd that he's Batman, looked through the cameras and directly into the watery eyes of the RINOs wobbling in front of their televisions, and roared, "I'm vengeance."  It was a great speech, but all I heard was, "Listen to the words long written down / When the man comes around."  Just like last year, he won the CPAC straw poll overwhelmingly.

The whole appearance reminded me of his 2017 inaugural address, when he ascended the dais with all of Washington's illustrious Establishment Class seated directly behind him, and proceeded to rip them to shreds before the world:

For too long, a small group in our nation's Capital has reaped the rewards of government while the people have borne the cost.  Washington flourished — but the people did not share in its wealth.  Politicians prospered — but the jobs left, and the factories closed.  The establishment protected itself, but not the citizens of our country.  Their victories have not been your victories; their triumphs have not been your triumphs; and while they celebrated in our nation's Capital, there was little to celebrate for struggling families all across our land.  That all changes — starting right here, and right now, because this moment is your moment: it belongs to you.

President Trump's Hunger Games speech was an unprecedented attack on the Establishment authorities watching in amazement.  While our compromised State media have spent years calling him an "authoritarian," his policies were always glaringly anti-authoritarian.  And that's what terrifies D.C.'s nobility.

Sitting next to the Clintons and the Obamas, President George Bush reportedly remarked, "That was some weird s---."  His insult was another harbinger of the Deep State's coming war on MAGA and the American people.  The lizards could not comprehend any language pledging to put America first.  It was as if President Trump had spoken in a foreign tongue.  The people, however, understood what he was saying, and his words were music to their ears.  "The forgotten men and women of our country will be forgotten no longer," he promised.  "This American carnage stops right here and stops right now," he demanded.  The sentences were like drumbeats exhorting Americans to march to one cadence: "The time for empty talk is over.  Now arrives the hour of action. ... A new national pride will stir our souls, lift our sights, and heal our divisions."

"January 20th, 2017," President Trump argued, "will be remembered as the day the people became the rulers of this nation again."  When he uttered those words, I remember thinking, "All those Uniparty 'elites' seated behind him, smiling their fake smiles, will do anything to put him down."  For the last six years, they nearly have.  President Trump declared an end to America's oligarchy and the return of political power to the American people, and for the miscreants who occupy D.C., those were fighting words posing an existential threat to their corrupt, cushy, totalitarian control over the nation.  Every J6 political prisoner, every parent threatened at a PTA meeting, every pro-life defender targeted, every MAGA-supporter fired, and every conservative censored into silence has paid the price.  Until the people submit to lizard rule, the beatings will continue.

Yet here we are six years later, and both President Trump and his supporters still stand.  His enemies cannot understand why.  They have sullied his reputation, placed him in legal jeopardy, and caused him great financial harm.  They have slandered his voters as racists, enlisted government agencies to endlessly harass them, and perverted the legal system to dole out political persecution.  They cannot comprehend why Donald Trump won't go away or why MAGA voters have become only more resilient.

The answer is simple.  It is the political lizards of D.C. who speak a foreign language, and it is Donald Trump whom the American people understand:

So to all Americans, in every city near and far, small and large, from mountain to mountain, and from ocean to ocean, hear these words: You will never be ignored again.  Your voice, your hopes, and your dreams, will define our American destiny.  And your courage and goodness and love will forever guide us along the way.

The American people were listening, and for six long years, they have watched the Uniparty and Deep State destroy the country, rather than cede power back to the people.  Even during that inaugural address, though, the president had an answer for those saboteurs: "Do not let anyone tell you it cannot be done.  No challenge can match the heart and fight and spirit of America."  Americans with full hearts, tremendous spirit, and formidable fight agree.  No contest worth the effort could ever be easy.

The price of handing over representative government to two parties secretly working in concert is the exclusion of almost all other Americans from ever serving or being heard.  To fire the federal bureaucracy and end the federal occupation, MAGA must have the final word.

NCIS LA finale info, X22, and more- March 10

Source: https://tvline.com/2023/03/10/ncis-los-angeles-cancelled-final-episode-release-date-spoilers/

NCIS: Los Angeles will get a proper sendoff from CBS, by way of the previously announced two-part series finale and a retrospective special.

In Part 1 of the finale, which is titled “New Beginnings” and will air Sunday, May 14 at 10/9c, the ATF seeks help from NCIS to investigate stolen military-grade weapons and locate a missing agent. Elsewhere, Callen and Anna continue to plan their wedding… Rountree’s sister interviews for medical school… and Sam encourages his father to take part in a drug trial.

One week later, in “New Beginnings, Part 2”– which will air an hour earlier than usual, on Sunday, May 21 at 9 pm —  the NCIS team continues that case with ATF, while Callen and Anna decide to pull the trigger on an impromptu wedding.

Might any past team members manage to get themselves to said impromptu ceremony? No returns have been announced, though there the buzz is that there a familiar face or two will RSVP.

As for TVLine readers’ No. 1 wish for the series finale — to see or at least hear from Linda Hunt’s Hetty again, after so protracted an absence — Gemmill in a recent interview stopped short of saying that Callen & Co. will embark on a mission to find their MIA boss. “But it’s put in motion,” the EP allowed. “We are going to have steps taken to resolve Hetty’s storyline in a way that I hope leaves fans feeling excited.”

Following Part 2 of the series finale, at 10 pm, there will be a one-hour Entertainment Tonight special titled A Salute to NCIS: Los Angeles. The Kevin Frazier-hosted retrospective will feature footage and interviews with cast members from the past 14 years, plus new interviews, favorite memories and behind-the-scenes moments.

“Wrapping up a series is always bittersweet,” NCIS: LA showrunner R. Scott Gemmill said in a statement. “We were blessed to have 14 seasons together, so bringing it to a satisfying end was extremely challenging after so many years. Fortunately, CBS was gracious enough to give us an extra episode in order to send off our characters in a way befitting their stories that hopefully the fans find both satisfying and hopeful.”

NCIS: LA’s farewell season will tap out after 21 episodes, while overall the first NCIS offshoot will have served up 322 total episodes.

--------------------------------------------------------

How am I feeling about this early info? Gotta say, it's quite nice of CBS to show some long needed respect to this show, especially after basically wanting it to end after this Season by dumping it in the 10 pm slot. And I'm sure the special will be nice, BUT, I'll only watch it if I'm pleased with the ending.

And yes, I'm still very sure there'll be some worthwhile Hetty content. It's just still early yet.

Here's the newsyou want to hear about:

A Handy January 6 Fact Sheet

Plenty of other falsehoods and misrepresentations animate the fable of January 6. But for those honestly seeking the truth, consider this a cheat sheet for future use.

In another example of Washington’s inexorable slide into banana republic territory, Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) took to the floor of the U.S. Senate on Tuesday to call for the removal of an American journalist.

“I don’t think I’ve ever seen an anchor treat the American people, and American democracy, with such disdain,” Schumer said during his seven-minute authoritarian tirade. “And he’s going to come back tonight with another segment. Fox News should tell him not to. Fox News, Rupert Murdoch—tell Mr. Carlson not to run a second segment of lies. You know it’s a lie.”

Schumer later reiterated his demand to a group of journalists who, rather than denounce one of the most powerful government officials in the country attempting to silence an influential member of the media, dutifully reported Schumer’s bleating without question.

Republican senators including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Senator Mitt Romney (R-Utah) joined the fray, echoing Schumer’s faux concerns over “national security.”

Clearly, it’s panic time. The White House, Congress, and the Democratic Party propaganda arm that is the corporate media realize their carefully engineered narrative about January 6 is imploding in real time. Which is why they’re accusing Carlson of “whitewashing” and “rewriting” the events of January 6. Anything less than total fealty to regime-approved talking points about what happened before and after that day now is considered a “threat to democracy.”

But facts are facts. And no amount of pearl-clutching by the hags on “The View” or threats made by U.S. senators can alter the reality of January 6. Between video recordings, witness testimony, court filings, and news reporting, the undeniable truth about January 6 cannot be willfully wished away even by the most skilled spinmeisters.

Here’s what we know:

  • Some people acted badly. A handful came ready for a fight while others admit they were caught up in a mob mentality that unfolded over the course of the afternoon.
  • The overwhelming majority of protesters did not act badly or violently. Not only do security footage and other video sources demonstrate that is indeed true, the Justice Department’s own data supports it. “Parading” in the Capitol, a class B misdemeanor, is by far the most common charge in the Justice Department’s sweeping investigation. According to an update published this week, 919 out of 1,000 defendants face trespassing charges. Of the 518 who accepted plea agreements, 385 pleaded guilty to misdemeanors and 133 pleaded guilty to a felony.
  • The most common felony is not “insurrection” but rather obstruction of an official proceeding. Fewer than 20 people face seditious conspiracy charges.
  • Roughly 100 defendants are accused of attacking police officers with a dangerous weapon. No one is charged with carrying or using a firearm inside the building.
  • Speaking of police, body-worn camera and independent video show outrageous misconduct by law enforcement. D.C. Metropolitan Police launched an aggressive and unnecessary offensive against the crowd assembled on the west lawn. Even though protesters were respecting police lines at the time, footage shows officers throwing stun grenades into and other devices containing rubber bullets into the crowd beginning shortly after 1:00 p.m.
  • Video and testimony by Capitol police officers at trial confirmed how that activity enraged the crowd. Other officers shoved women down stairs and shoved one man off the upper terrace balcony.
  • This conduct continued inside the building. Some officers shoved and hit individuals inside the Rotunda and other areas. A brutal scene in the lower west terrace tunnel unfolded as police used their batons to beat at least two women on the head resulting in bleeding and injuries.
  • Excessive force caused the deaths of four Trump supporters: Ashli Babbitt, Rosanne Boyland, Kevin Greeson, and Benjamin Phillips.
  • On the flip side, despite persistent claims even by Attorney General Merrick Garland and White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre as recently as this week, no police officers died as a result of injuries sustained on January 6. Officer Brian Sicknick is on video walking around after he suffered a pepper spray attack; he died of a stroke the next day. There’s no evidence the reported suicides of other officers after January 6 were related to the protest.
  • Further, the responsibility of sufficiently protecting the Capitol with enough officers fell to the Capitol Police board—staffed by the sergeant-at-arms for then House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and then Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. Former Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund repeatedly testified that he requested additional help including National Guardsmen days before January 6. Even as the chaos unfolded that day, House Sergeant-at-Arms Paul Irving and Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Michael Stenger delayed pursuing the proper authorization of the National Guard.
  • Irving told House Republicans that his staff as well as members of the House Administration committee began planning for January 6 weeks before the protest. Jamie Fleet, a security staffer for both Pelosi and the committee overseeing Capitol functions, told the January 6 select committee that he started preparations for January 6 in the summer of 2020.
  • When the building was breached at around 2:15 p.m., Congress was not voting to certify the electoral college results at the time, a common misperception. Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Arizona) were in the process of disputing the election outcome in Gosar’s home state, a process permitted under the Electoral Count Act. The joint session of Congress technically had been adjourned an hour earlier so debate could begin.
  • For all the wasted energy spent over the past two years that democracy almost died on January 6, the chaotic protest only delayed the certification ceremony for seven hours. Joe Biden officially was declared president at 3:00 a.m. the next day.
  • The surveillance video viewed by Carlson’s team has not been made available to defense attorneys, arguably in violation of defendants’ constitutional rights.
  • A separate trove of tapes that captured activity from the hours between noon and 8:00 p.m. was turned over to the FBI in early 2021 to use in its investigation. With few exceptions, all footage remains under protective orders. Defense attorneys consistently have complained that access to the full archive is constrained by the protective orders.

Plenty of other falsehoods and misrepresentations animate the fable of January 6. But for those honestly seeking the truth, consider this a cheat sheet for future use.

New paint design for ‘Next Air Force One’

  • Published
  • Secretary of the Air Force Public Affairs

President of the United States Joe Biden has selected the livery design for the "Next Air Force One," VC-25B, a design that will closely resemble the livery of the current Air Force One, VC-25A, while also modernizing for the 21st century.

While accounting for the VC-25B’s larger 747-8i aircraft, the VC-25B livery has three primary differences with the VC-25A’s livery. The light blue on VC-25B is a slightly deeper, more modern tone than VC-25A's robin's egg blue. Additionally, the VC-25B engines will use the darker blue from the cockpit area vice the VC-25A’s robin’s egg blue. Finally, there is no polished metal section on the VC-25B because modern commercial aircraft skin alloys don't allow for it.

A formal contractual decision for a VC-25B livery was not required until this year for Boeing to conduct engineering, certification preparation, and supplier selection activities for the program. The Air Force previously displayed a red, white, and blue livery for the VC-25B because it had been publicly expressed as a preferred livery in 2019. A thermal study later concluded the dark blue in the design would require additional Federal Aviation Administration qualification testing for several commercial components due to the added heat in certain environments.

The VC-25B Program will deliver a new fleet of aircraft to enable POTUS to execute the duties of Head of State, Chief Executive, and Commander in Chief. The aircraft will be uniquely modified to provide the POTUS, staff, and guests with safe and reliable air transportation with the equivalent level of communications capability and security available in the White House.

The VC-25B aircraft will replace the current VC-25A fleet, which faces capability gaps, rising maintenance costs, and parts obsolescence. Modifications to the aircraft will include electrical power upgrades, a mission communication system, a medical facility, an executive interior, a self-defense system, and autonomous ground operations capabilities.

VC-25B deliveries are projected for 2027 for the first aircraft and 2028 for the second aircraft. The Air Force remains postured to keep VC-25A available and mission-ready until delivery of the VC-25B.

China is Openly Infiltrating our Political System

China is Openly Infiltrating our Political System

And the American media couldn't care less.

The American media has been liberal for decades, but the utter disregard for the truth that pervades much of the reporting today is something new. With all the alarm over misinformation on the right, little attention has been paid to the much broader form of misinformation that dominant corporate media perpetrates today.
One of the biggest stories of our time is the way Communist China has co-opted so many leading American institutions and individuals. How is it that America, a country committed to human rights, is freely trading with China, a country currently operating slave labor camps? That’s a serious and important question, but it’s one the media barely addresses.

Many well-intentioned Americans believed that free trade would liberalize China and provide low-cost goods, ultimately helping American families. In reality, free trade fueled Communist China’s rise, minus the promise of liberalization. Moreover, these policies left America overly dependent on Chinese-made goods, including key products needed for America’s security, its health care and even, astoundingly, its military.

More broadly, the loss of American manufacturing has harmed many formerly thriving American communities and helped upend the American political system. It turns out that free trade theory may not work out when one party is a developed free economy and the other is a mercantilist system marked by corruption and slave labor.

In addition to the American leaders who botched these policies through well-meaning intentions, there are others who were economically or politically conflicted. Many American companies made billions by moving factories to China. Wall Street made even more by financing the whole thing. Some American companies and elite institutions were flat-out co-opted by Chinese interests. The Chinese Communist Party has an organized effort to influence American policymakers and business leaders. Most Americans don’t even know they’ve been targeted by Communist Party operatives. They are drawn in by the potential for financial gain or by a desire to bring the two countries closer together.

The Daily Caller News Foundation’s Philip Lenczycki is one of the leading American reporters covering the Chinese Communist Party’s influence operations in the United States. With 20 years of experience traveling frequently to China, six years living in China full time, fluency in Mandarin, a master’s degree in Chinese language and culture, sources all over China and as the top student at Harvard’s Beijing Academy, it’s hard to point to a more well-equipped reporter elsewhere in American media.

Lenczycki recently made two astounding discoveries, which he detailed in a series of articles. First, he revealed how California Democratic Rep. Judy Chu served for over a decade as the “honorary president” of an organization whose leadership includes several individuals who’ve belonged to alleged Chinese intelligence front groups. Lenczycki also revealed how Chu was named “honorary chairwoman” of an alleged Chinese intelligence front group back in 2019.

Second, Lenczycki exposed how Dominic Ng, CEO of East West Bank, who President Joe Biden recently appointed to represent the U.S. at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meetings, had been a member of at least two groups allegedly linked to Chinese Communist Party intelligence efforts.
Top U.S. leaders associating with groups linked to alleged Chinese intelligence efforts is, of course a huge story, yet the corporate media did not touch it.

Republican members of Congress called for investigations as a result of Lenczycki’s reporting. The Democrats’ response to all this was basically their standard playbook in 2023: ignore the facts altogether and claim the whole thing is driven by racism. When the facts aren’t with you, change the subject and attack the messenger. That’s not good behavior; in fact, it’s utterly juvenile, but it’s how politics often works.

Reporters are supposed to be different. They are supposed to search for the truth. They are supposed to ask tough questions. Of course, the legacy media did not do that. In reporting on the whole incident, corporate media outlets have yet to examine the actual facts Lenczycki unearthed. They instead summarily wrote his work off as “unsubstantiated.” Lenczycki’s reporting is well-documented, and, more importantly, it’s on the web for anyone to analyze. Any reporter who felt the need to further substantiate it could go to his articles, find links to the source materials and experts who commented, and do all the necessary substantiation. But not a single corporate media reporter did that. Why? They don’t want to get to the truth. They don’t like where it may lead. It’s much cleaner to call it “unsubstantiated” or “racist” and write it off. This is the same way they handled the Hunter Biden laptop story, the story of whether COVID came from a lab in China and so many other story lines that they do not want to explore for political reasons.

It’s important to note that Lenczycki never once alleged in his reporting that either Ng or Chu were knowingly doing the bidding of the Chinese Communist Party. He didn’t allege that because he doesn’t know if it’s true. What is true is that both parties have troubling ties to alleged Chinese intelligence front groups. Besides tarring those looking into these serious allegations as “racists,” both Chu and Ng have defended themselves either by totally denying any affiliations with these groups or by downplaying any ties as having fizzled out years ago.
There could be some truth to that, but these top American leaders’ mere associations with parties doing the bidding for the increasingly brutal Chinese Communist state is worthy of more scrutiny. This is doubly true in this case, where the subjects’ excuses don’t line up with all the available facts. And if it’s all innocent, then it seems really odd that these alleged Chinese intelligence groups are busy scrubbing their websites to try to retroactively cover their tracks.
The corporate media has not pressed Ng and Chu on any of this. Chinese Communist influence operations in America is not a story that interests them. Besides NBC News, none of the media outlets branding Lenczycki’s reporting as “racist” even reached out for comment — a journalistic norm that Lenczycki offered to both Ng and Chu numerous times without success.

The story of the Chinese Communist Party’s influence operations in the U.S. is in many ways part of the story of our time. America’s financial and political leaders put in place policies that helped China’s Communists at the expense of the American middle class. Many of America’s major media outlets were part of the problem. They took millions of dollars to run Chinese Communist propaganda for many years. Included among the news outlets that ran this paid propaganda were The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post and The New York Times. More recently, all the major D.C. newsletters — Axios, Playbook and Punchbowl — are on the Chinese dole. Semafor was even more bold: They enthusiastically announced partnership with a barely concealed Chinese influence group.

Maybe that explains why they’re all so uninterested in the story. Maybe it isn’t money. Maybe academic notions of racial intersectionality and “Asian hate” have paralyzed them into submission. In either case, this much is clear: China is aggressively targeting American leaders and institutions, and it is succeeding. That’s a huge story. We aren’t intimidated by the name-calling; if the legacy media won’t cover it, we certainly will.

Michelle Obama Is Not Coming to Save the Democrats

They have made their bed with Joe Biden and
cackling Kamala Harris and there’s no way out.

I love a good conspiracy theory. Aliens, ancient builders, Bigfoot—I will absolutely click on that headline and read the latest conspiracy, no matter how fanciful or ludicrous. Everyone has a harmless personal foible, right? And in the times we live in now, shadowy government conspiracies and UFOs are no longer just for “The X Files.”

My favorite new conspiracy theory goes like this: the Democrats know they are in big trouble for 2024. They have this addled, dementia-riddled, diaper-wearing octogenarian and his dreadful wife occupying the White House, and he’s become an embarrassment. These days he makes three to four hair-curling, cringey gaffes per week, falls up the stairs to Air Force One every time he tries to trot up them to project American strength and vigor, and has been credibly accused of passing gas in front of the Queen Consort of England. But Democrats can’t abandon him before the primaries because, well, Kamala. So Biden will announce he is running again but will withdraw sometime around the Democratic National Convention so as to clear the presidential field for . . .

Michelle Obama.

The stench of desperation is hilarious, isn’t it? That’s how bad the field of Democratic presidential prospects is. Democrats must be pretty frantic for someone to have conjured up and floated this rumor. A recent poll indicated 72 percent of Americans don’t want Biden to run again in 2024. Biden will be 82 shortly after the 2024 election. Is this Michelle Obama rumor supposed to give Democrats hope? To keep them from abandoning Biden because just wait, Michelle is waiting in the wings to save their party from Bad Orange Man, or even worse, Ron DeSantis?

Please. I’ll believe aliens taught Bigfoot how to make crop circles in Peru before I buy this one. Michelle Obama hates politics, hates voters, and hates Washington D.C., and not necessarily in that order.

She emerged from her privileged Martha’s Vineyard cocoon recently to recount in a podcast (about herself, naturally) that she cried uncontrollably for a half an hour on Air Force One when she left Washington, D.C., after Donald Trump’s inauguration. “Just straight, uncontrollable sobbing” from “holding it together for eight years” under the enormous, horrible, crushing burden of being the First Lady of the United States. Her story was one of struggle where living in the White House with staff to cater to her every need, traveling on her own ginormous government airplane to Japan and South Africa with her mother and her entourage, and enjoying eight years of wildly obvious throne sniffing media flattery as the Most Stylish First Lady Ever was just too much to bear.

And about those vacations? According to Judicial Watch, which obtained U.S. Air Force and Secret Service records in response to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request, the Obama travel expenses for family vacations cost U.S. taxpayers $114,691,322.17. That’s the Michelle I remember, the one who lived on grievance politics, took away the snack machines at my sons’ high school, and told me almost every day I was racist because I didn’t agree with her husband’s policies.

Almost eight years have passed since Michelle was finally freed from the prison of the White House. She has been quiet lately, working on a podcast and another book about her favorite topic—herself. She has homes in Martha’s Vineyard, Chicago, and the oceanfront plot where her husband is building a Hawaiian retreat where Tom Selleck’s boss used to live in in “Magnum P.I.” until the Obamas leveled it.

She travels to New York City to see the U.S. Open from box seats wearing $600 designer jeans and is seen leaving the swanky Pierre Hotel on the Upper East Side, where the presidential suite goes for $30,000 per night. She vacations in France with Bono, kayaks in Hawaii during the winter holidays, and wears thigh-high glittery $3,900 Balenciaga boots on book tours where she speaks for money about her struggles. She even wears her hair (well, someone’s hair . . .  we all know she wore wigs while First Lady) in long braids now, an ethnic hairstyle which we racist voters denied her while her husband served two terms as president. Americans “weren’t ready” for a black family and ethnic hair, so she chose instead to have “healthcare pass” and to wear her hair straight.

I don’t believe it for a millisecond. Michelle Obama is living her best life right now, the life she has always wanted and felt that she deserved (if her husband hadn’t been a community organizer obsessed with politics who didn’t make any money and forced her to support the family). She’s completely free of the restraint of politics. Now she can say whatever she wants about people she used to have to pretend to like. Polls name her consistently as the most admired woman in America. You think she’s giving any of that up to schmooze and take photos with donors, or hit the campaign trail in Iowa, or spend the night in one-star hotels in Pennsylvania? Not likely.

Michelle Obama still has the attention of an eager, supplicant media, the admiration of liberal women, and enough money to keep her in the lifestyle to which she obviously has become accustomed. She has even eased off the whole “Let’s Move” thing and references to her famous biceps. Now she discusses her menopausal weight gain in this “blessed” time of life. Her kids are grown, they are millionaires, and life is good. Face it: she does not look or sound like a woman who wants to be president.

And presidential politics ain’t beanbag. The kid glove treatment she received as the wife of the first black presidential candidate would evaporate if she were the candidate. We would hear all over again about the unintelligible college thesis, the no-show political spoils job, the surrendered law license, the curious absence of any photos of her pregnant with her children, the complete lack of any electoral office other than that of wife.

Haven’t we as a country already had enough of ambitious, unqualified wives trying to ride their former president husbands’ coattails into office? Don’t we prefer our presidents to have some experience and qualifications, and perhaps even to have held elected office? Would Americans reward her first foray into running for office with the presidency? I hope not, but in the era of Senator John Fetterman, it’s not impossible to limit what Democrats and a complicit media may endeavor to achieve.

Even so: does she, dare I say, have the balls to run?

This conspiracy is merely a good laugh full of schadenfreude at the horrible predicament in which the Democratic Party has placed itself. They have made their bed with Joe Biden and cackling Kamala and there’s no way out. And Michelle Obama is not coming to save them.

We Wouldn’t Need Tucker Carlson If The Jan. 6 Committee Hadn’t Put On A Partisan Show Trial

If we had transparency and a functioning press,
people wouldn’t need to turn elsewhere.

Thanks to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, Fox News host Tucker Carlson now has access to more than 40,000 hours of unreleased surveillance video from the Jan. 6 riot. It’s created quite a bit of consternation and anger in the media.

Of course, if the Select Committee on the Jan. 6 Attack, handpicked by Nancy Pelosi, hadn’t withheld inconvenient evidence from the public in the first place, then McCarthy wouldn’t have had the chance to give the Fox News host anything. Republicans have Fox. The Jan. 6 committee has virtually every other outlet.

Mitch McConnell is also outraged by Carlson’s framing of the surveillance video. Perhaps if the Kentucky senator had voiced outrage when the committee handed unfettered access to a former producer of “Good Morning America” and “Nightline,” so he could create a slick, selectively edited program that made Jan. 6 look like the September Massacres of the French Revolution, we wouldn’t be here. It says a lot about McConnell that he’s more upset by a media personality sharing videos than he is about Chuck Schumer, a government official, demanding a private company censor journalism.

“I could take footage from World War II, find a little piece of it, and convince somebody it’s the moon landing,” former Jan. 6 committee member Adam Kinzinger told CNN’s Anderson Cooper last night. “There’s footage of soldiers [in Vietnam] at their bases hanging out in Saigon,” Cooper responded. “… You can take video of anybody in the course of a day.”

You can. And you can also take footage showing soldiers in Vietnam abusing civilians to create the perception that most servicemen abused civilians. The “mostly peaceful” formulation, typically used by liberals to whitewash leftist violence, is shameful. And so is the partisan fearmongering surrounding Jan. 6.

It’s difficult for me to muster any sympathy for the nutjobs who entered the Capitol building. It’s implausible that most of them didn’t understand what they were doing was wrong, dangerous, or illegal, whether they were just milling about or banging on doors or vandalizing offices. Many, of course, acted in threatening and violent ways. It was a national embarrassment.

None of that makes the dishonest political revisionism of the Jan. 6 committee any truer. It’s clear the QAnon Shaman wasn’t moments away from overthrowing the republic and declaring Donald Trump the king of America. It wasn’t anywhere close to “the worst attack on our democracy since the Civil War” or the new Pearl Harbor or 9/11. Which is why Democrats conflate the actions of rioters with those of the thousands of people who protested the election results outside, the president who enflamed the crowd with conspiratorial rhetoric, and the politicians who were inside voting on certification. Wrong or right, conspiracists or not, the latter people did not do anything illegal.

Put it this way, the central difference between Jan 6, 2021, and the last day or two of May 2020, when Secret Service agents had to stick Donald Trump into a bunker for hours as a throng of “protesters” began overwhelming security at the White House, some throwing rocks and bottles and trying to break down barricades, was the effectiveness of the police.

Then again, QAnon Shaman, like anyone else accused of rioting, deserves a fair trial. If his lawyer is telling the truth, the defense had no access to video of cops peacefully escorting the man around the Capitol. We have no clue if that footage is exculpatory, but it is clearly relevant. QAnon Shaman was sentenced to over three years in prison, with another nearly three years of probation.

If Cooper were a member of a functioning press, he would have been grilling Kinzinger about his committee’s lack of transparency and denial of basic due process. Pelosi blocked members who could have asked for answers regarding security breakdowns or demanded the release of countervailing evidence or tempered the hyperbole and grandstanding that dominated the hearings.

Cooper knows that journalists “selectively” edit and cherry-pick video all the time. He knows that the Jan. 6 committee “selectively” edited and cherry-picked video, as well. Maybe seeing both narratives gives us a far better sense of what happened that day. There was a riot, not a coup d’etat. And the media should be elated that we have more footage for the historical record. Then again, that was never the point, was it?

A Permanent Wartime Economy

 A Permanent Wartime Economy

“Governments create money all the time. We do that for war.”

This is the argument for more money printing, and perhaps unlimited money printing, recently advanced by Professor Mariana Mazzucato on prime-time BBC.

Channeling Warren Mosler, the godfather of modern monetary theory, Dr. Mazzucato argues against “austerity”—by which she means any natural restraints on government spending. In order to spend, sovereign states need not “earn” tax revenue like a household must earn money, nor do they need to borrow.1 There is a third option: they can print new money at will and enjoy the profit of seigniorage. Just look at Germany, she says approvingly, which recently conjured up 100 billion by executive edict for the war effort in Ukraine!

She certainly is correct that governments print money to pay for wars. America was effectively born into debt during the Revolutionary War, and borrowed/printed money for every war thereafter.

But beyond that she is entirely and embarrassingly wrong. The fundamental reality is that more money does not create any new goods or services in the economy. Money is not wealth. Wealth is productive capacity; the ability to create actual goods and services. Germany and the European Central Bank can create euro stretching to the moon, but that will not produce a single missile or aircraft for the Ukrainians.

Actual production requires the allocation of real resources and real capital. Resource allocation requires choices, whether made by political edict or in the marketplace. In both cases there are inherent opportunity costs to not allocating those resources and capital to other uses. Politics doesn’t magically eliminate tradeoffs. Resources are scarce even when money is not.

A case in point, courtesy of economist Peter Schmidt: “During WWII, the Germans fielded an airplane that made every other aircraft obsolete—the ME262. Even though the German government faced no limits on how much currency it could create, it couldn’t conjure into existence the fuel the planes needed.” In fact, the Germans used oxen to put this most advanced fighter in takeoff position to save fuel!

One gets the sense that all of modern economics is dedicated to refuting Say’s law. The melding of economics and politics promises the proverbial free lunch, where demand creates its own production. Mazzucato is a worthy exemplar of this thinking.

An economist at University College London, Mazzucato wrote an oxymoronically titled book, The Entrepreneurial State. Not surprisingly, she urges greater “investment” by governments to innovate where the private sector supposedly cannot or will not. She is also a graduate of the New School for Social Research, an institution which truly lives up to its radical progressive history. One of its early leading lights, the noxious reformer John Dewey, was a particular bête noire in Murray Rothbard’s critique of postmillennial pietism. Of course, neither Mazzucato’s background nor her political views alone negate her arguments. But it is worth noting how the Left consistently elevates its radicals and how mainstream outlets like BBC are entirely comfortable featuring them. This only works one way. We cannot imagine a scenario where BBC interviews Per Bylund on the topic of entirely eliminating central banks in favor of private money. Yet Mazzucato’s MMT prescription for almost unlimited political provision of money is at least as radical relative to the status quo in monetary and fiscal policy.2

But money creation is not magic. It certainly does not create any new wealth, and in fact destroys wealth by directing resources toward inherently inefficient (nonmarket) uses. It benefits early recipients and the political class at the cost of higher prices and terrible distortions in the invaluable structure of production which makes the West so wealthy.

Progressives of all political stripes would happily put America and the West on a permanent wartime footing. Mazzucato and her contemporaries are political people, and politics is war by other means. Inequality, climate change, racism, transphobia, pandemics, and a host of other issues—none of which ever should have been politicized—are now tantamount to battlefields. War costs money, and magic economics wants us to believe national treasuries and central banks can foot any bill.

  • 1. Per Mosler, taxes are simply a tool to cool the economy when it "overheats." They pull money (and hence demand) out of the economy in inflationary periods and stimulate it (via tax cuts) in deflationary periods. From his paper “Seven Deadly Innocent Frauds of Economic Policy”:
Question: If the government doesn’t tax because it needs the money to spend, why tax at all?
Answer: The federal government taxes to regulate what economists call “aggregate demand” which is a fancy word for “spending power.” In short, that means that if the economy is “too hot,” then raising taxes will cool it down, and if it’s “too cold,” likewise, cutting taxes will warm it up. Taxes aren’t about getting money to spend, they are about regulating our spending power to make sure we don’t have too much and cause inflation, or too little which causes unemployment and recessions.
  • 2. And when it comes to showcasing women in the male-dominated field of economics, only left-wing women receive attention or airtime: Lael Brainard, Janet Yellen, and Stephanie Kelton, for example.
