How Twisted Must You Be to Justify Cutting Apart Kids?

The opinions expressed by columnists are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of Townhall

We look back on the primitive people of the past and sneer at their bizarre and monstrous atrocities – and rightly so. Even the civilized Romans recorded horrible acts by their elite – Emperor Elagabalus allegedly wanted to castrate himself and do some more cutting in order to become a Romanette, while Nero sliced the bologna off his boyfriend, a kid who was unlucky enough to resemble Nero’s dead wife. But here’s the thing – the Romans themselves wrote about this stuff recognizing that it was an atrocity. The Romans at least has a bit of moral clarity. But our savage elite celebrates the surgical disfigurement of disordered people, including kids. Our senile president sits with a male pretending to be a girl and cheers it on. Mutilation is a disgrace and it must stop.

Yeah, the word is “mutilation.” Chopping of penises and testicles, cutting off healthy breasts, trying to sculpt obscene parodies of male and female sex organs – these are mutilations. The Aztecs, no slouch in the atrocity department, would look at this in disgust.

“Top surgery,” “bottom surgery” – they know it is all an abomination because they try to hide double mastectomies and castration behind benign euphemisms like “gender affirming care.” It’s a lie wrapped up inside a deception. And our garbage ruling class think this is a good thing.

Oh, somewhere in their broken brains, they do understand that this is barbarity of the cruelest kind, so they always initially deny and obfuscate when confronted. “What? We don’t do gender-affirming surgery on minors! Why, just ignore our websites and videos where we brag about doing gender-affirming surgery on minors.”

But then, when exposed – after they call you a terrorist for letting people know about the horrors they are inflicting on sick and vulnerable people – they shift into, “It’s actually a good thing, this thing we were denying doing just a couple minutes ago.”

How twisted must you be to justify cutting apart kids?

We always hear about how history will judge us normal people when we refuse to give up our cars to please the angry weather goddess or reject the racial hierarchy the left asserts or otherwise defy the communists’ to-do list. But how do you think people in a hundred years – assuming President Crusty and his corps of borderline clinical morons don’t get us nuked over some border dispute in East Whogivesadamnistan – are going to say about this infamy? They are going to talk about us like the primitive ghouls our ruling class betters are.

History, please take note that some of us say “No.”

We say “No” to the idea of chemically ruining or removing perfectly good organs off little kids – or adults – who are suffering from mental illnesses in order to cater to their delusions. If you are a boy and think you are a girl, you are not 'unfairly burdened' with a scrotum. You have a mental disorder and you need treatment and compassion. A scalpel is neither treatment nor compassion. It is evil.

Read the heartbreaking stories of the ruined people who “transitioned” – that is, those whose parents either betrayed them by allowing them to be mutilated or those unwell adults who allowed themselves to be talked into it – and who now regret it. It’s the saddest thing in the world. This is not playing dress-up, where you can stop wearing a skirt tomorrow when you come to your senses. This is the permanent alteration of a healthy body into a cruel, misshapen simulacrum of the opposite sex. They are collateral damage in the left’s war on normality.

It must be outlawed and treated as the unholy infamy that it is.

Let’s be clear. This barbarity must be made a felony going forward and future butchers practicing after the ban must be prosecuted and sentenced to long prison terms. Mutilation, whether surgical or chemical, is never a treatment for a mental disorder. Not for kids. Not for adults. Not for anyone.

As for those who have suffered so under the law failing to define this barbarity as criminal, the Constitution bars ex post facto laws, so we cannot retroactively prosecute the butchers. But we can offer some justice. The victims must be able to sue the doctors who performed this kind of butchery for malpractice under current law and let a jury decide if this was okay. And legislatures – after outlawing the procedure – must extend the usually short statute of limitations for medical malpractice to at least 20 years for “gender affirming care” to ensure that those suffering permanent malformation can at least recover some money from the quacks and the institutions that allowed it.

Will the GOP legislatures stand up and do the right thing? Here’s the problem – so many of them are so terrified at the thought of being attacked for speaking out that they won’t do it. They would rather kids keep being mutilated than receive mean tweets on the Twitter machine. Often, it seems that GOP legislators have had their own bottom surgery. For example, the Oklahoma Republicans had a chance to ban this cruelty at one of their hospitals and did not take it. If you can’t say “No” to cutting apart kids, what the hell good are you?

There is no reason that every red state should not criminalize this surgical snake oil, and not just for kids. Adults too. Do not fall for the pseudo-libertarian nonsense of, “Well, they are adults and it is their bodies.” No. Let’s not pretend these are rational decisions made by heathy people. With kids, there’s always some Munchausen mommy driving the train. With adults, these are unwell and desperate people. Their mental illness is real. They really feel they are a different gender, and it is such a profound feeling that they are willing to go under the knife to try to relieve it. But they are not a different gender. Their feelings are real but they are also wrong. It is not compassion to pretend otherwise. They need to be treated compassionately, not to have someone try to brutally sculpt their body into a cruel imitation of their false self-image.

They say we hate trans people. That is a lie. We love them enough to want them to have all the mental health care they need to either cure them or help them live with their disorder. And it is a disorder. We must say so loudly and without equivocation. Males with it are not females, or vice versa, who are somehow “trapped in the wrong body.” Stupid clichés like that do not change the reality. The delusion created by their disorder is not real, and you cannot cut them into something approximating their false self-image. We need to speak those truths loudly and clearly.

The most vulnerable among us – both children and adults – have become a weapon for a left that sees their pain as a way to attack the foundations of society by this transgressive nonsense. The gender crap and CRT nonsense we see in places like schools are part of the same culture war offensive. Remember, to the left mutilation is a political statement, a demonstration of their commitment. They say, “Look what we will do in the pursuit of our objectives!” and then they pull out some bewildered teenage girl with a long Frankenstein scar across her chest where her breasts used to be and ask us to join in the applause. But the applause they seek is for themselves, because they have suppressed their own humanity so completely in the service of their Marxist Moloch that they are willing to allow this abomination.

No.

Enough of this shame on our society. Outlaw this barbarism. Allow the victims of gender phrenology to at least sue their tormentors. Republicans, this is the hill to fight on, and, not to die on, but to win on. If you GOP pols can’t sell the electorate on an anti-mutilation platform, time to for you to get a new gig.

Sometimes something is so wrong it’s almost hard to comprehend it. Your mind rebels at the enormity of the evil. Sadly, our trash elite has nearly managed to normalize this atrocity. But think back to an earlier time, like if someone twenty years ago had told you, “Hey, why don’t we allow children to have their breasts and genitals cut off because they feel like they are the opposite sex. Sound good?” You would drop a butterfly net over his head and drag him to the nearest booby hatch. You certainly would not nod along saying, “Yes, what a good idea.”

React like you would have reacted then, because the America of 20 years ago was right and this America, for tolerating this mutilation of the vulnerable, is beyond wrong.

America’s New Great Awakening

A majority of Americans distrust the media and view them as a threat. And as usual, the media seems utterly clueless that they are the darkness in which democracy dies.

Americans’ Great Awakening is now so well underway that even pollsters and left-of-center opinion writers are finally coming to understand the public’s hatred for a legacy, corporate media that has fully abandoned any pretense of being a common source for information. It has ripped off its mask to reveal itself as the partisan propaganda machine for the state narrative that it has long been undercover. It’s no exaggeration to say the media is the preeminent domestic threat to America.

As someone who spent 20 years in daily newspapers and has been working diligently for a generation to wake people up to the dangers of trusting the media, I’m dancing a rare jig of joy—though not without shedding a small tear for what could have been.

Take a gander at what Peter Savodnik, a left-of-center writer formerly of Vanity Fair and the London Guardian, wrote last week after the jaw-dropping Fetterman-Oz debate debacle:

From Russiagate to the lab leak theory to the riots in the summer of 2020 to the effect of school closures during the pandemic, reporters seem increasingly incapable of reporting honestly and comprehensively on the most important issues of the day. Last night, for anyone who was watching the debate with eyes wide open, that much was indisputable.

Savodnik is hardly alone as we see an increasing array of serious left-wing journalists being red-pilled about their industry and walking away, including former New York Times columnist Bari Weiss; Intercept co-founder Glenn Greenwald; Rolling Stone reporter Matt Taibbi; Vox reporter Matt Yglesias and even former magazine columnists such as the far-left Atlantic’s Andrew Sullivan, to name a few. Again, not a right-winger among them, but all see what the corporate media has become and at least have the integrity to publicly acknowledge it.

But what is essential in any Great Awakening is that a critical mass of normal people opens their eyes wide. Exhibit A that it’s happening is nothing short of what’s reported in the Washington Post about its own poll with Siena College:

As it turns out, 84 percent of respondents said yes, the mainstream media posed a threat to democracy, including 6 in 10 who said it posed a major threat. That was the highest percentage of any of the 10 options the pollsters presented—in part because it was one of the few options for which there was bipartisan support.

The last comment is an attempt at spin, but it only reinforces the reality that Americans of every political stripe are waking up to the threat that a partisan, radicalized, state-aligned media poses to a free society. It’s 84 percent!

Who could forget how the Washington Post, in the first year of Donald Trump’s presidency, self-righteously ushered in its new slogan, “Democracy dies in darkness”? Well, as it turns out, Americans believe democracy is dying in America, and they blame the media more than anyone or anything else. The Washington Post is a pack leader fulfilling its own slogan. And yet it is all but guaranteed that virtually no one at the Post or the rest of the corporate media has eyes to see what is slapping them in the face.

Self-reflection is not their strength.

Let’s take a recent in-the-news example of how this all works. Ubiquitous in the media is the phrase “election deniers,” which refers to Americans who question the veracity of official vote totals in states that radically altered election laws in 2020 ostensibly as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Given state courts ruled some of those changes were illegal, people have the right to question the outcome of close contests.

But Democrats and outfits such as the George Soros-funded, Hillary Clinton-advised Media Matters for America consider all such questions illegitimate and label all those who ask them “deniers.” (The obvious intent here is to conjure images of Holocaust deniers and somehow equate the two things in listeners’ minds.) If you do not religiously recite that Biden won the election and all was entirely on the up-and-up, you are a threat to democracy. And to ensure that message is pushed out in its entirety, the democracy-dies-in-darkness media kicks into action as the communications arm of the Democratic Party.

And so a Google search on any given day will return these sorts of headlines:

  • New York Times: “Election Deniers Running for Office”
  • Axios: “2020 election denial looms large in Colorado’s 2022 midterm”
  • NBC: “Election deniers advanced to November ballots in 27 states, report finds”
  • Politico: “Democrats locked in close contests with election deniers for key secretary of state posts”
  • Yahoo News: “[Washington state] Election Official Faces Election Denier”

But Americans know there were significant “irregularities” in the 2020 election. They understand much more than media elitists think.

Politico, for example, reports in its daily news blast that “election denialism” is significant: “60% of all voters say that President Biden won legitimately in 2020, compared with 33% (and 65% of Republicans) who say he didn’t win legitimately.” (As far as I can tell, Politico never used such terminology when Hillary Clinton said her election was stolen, and #notmypresident trended for a year after 2016.)

Arizona Republican gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake has repeatedly said, “Journalism has been replaced with propaganda.” She is right. But more importantly, a significant share of the American people now know it.

This Twitter exchange between a GOP Trump “war room” operative and an NBC reporter is pitch-perfect. In it, the two men are doing the exact same job, except one is honest as a GOP political operative and one is lying to people by claiming to be a fair reporter. Americans see it:

Even GOP politicians see it. Former Florida Governor Rick Scott, now a U.S. senator, broke the mold in 2010 when he rejected invitations from 17 state newspaper editorial boards, got none of their endorsements, and won anyway. Twice.

Now, some major Florida newspapers aren’t endorsing at all. Florida Democratic political strategist Steve Schale, who ran Obama’s Florida campaigns, sees newspaper endorsements as irrelevant. “Let’s put it this way, I hadn’t noticed if they had endorsed or not endorsed, and I’m a hack who generally lives and breathes this stuff,” Schale said.

Kari Lake and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis have continued breaking the code in dealing with the overtly hostile media: Don’t participate. They hold plenty of press gaggles, of course. But they hit back smoothly and confidently and give no pretense that they are dealing with objective journalists. More, please.

America’s First and Second Great Awakenings in the 18th and 19th centuries were solely Christian in nature, and they wrought dramatic changes in entire regions of the United States that lasted for generations.

What might this Great Awakening about our national media accomplish? It might be the biggest step yet toward returning the American government to the people, to be administered by the people and for the people.

Democrats Prepare the Spin for Their Coming Obliteration

Bonchie reporting for RedState

We are now just four nights away from election day as of this writing, and things could not be more contentious. Alright, that’s probably an overstatement because things can always get dumber in our political environment, but I digress.

Polling is showing a clear shift towards Republicans, vindicating those of us who told the doomers in August to chill the heck out. Summer polling is notoriously trash and the fundamentals have been heavily in favor of the GOP since the beginning.

Nothing can ever be certain, and turnout shifts defying history aren’t unheard of, but all signs point to a red wave of massive proportions on November 8th. That has the White House already preparing its spin on the coming obliteration.

I shouldn’t be surprised that’s the line Biden’s handlers are going to go with. It’s so transparently ridiculous and misleading, yet exactly in the wheelhouse of past claims they’ve made on a variety of topics. “Biden has cut the national deficit in half” they scream without noting Biden ran the deficit up in the first place. “Gas prices are down” they shout without noting they are way up compared to when the president took office.

Everything this administration says is premised on the assumption that you are an idiot, and in this case, the assumption is that you can’t do basic math.

Yes, past presidents have lost more seats than Biden will likely lose on Tuesday, but that’s an irrelevant statistic because it only indicates the size of the correction. You can’t know what that means in context, though, without knowing where the starting point is. The larger the deficit before an election, the more headroom an out-of-power party has to run up the total seats won.

The problem with that is obvious because what matters, in the end, is the size of the majority. Democrats did reasonably well in 2018, though they lost the senate and blew major races in Florida and Texas (gifting us Ron DeSantis). Yet, they only ended up with a 235-seat majority. That’s a far lesser majority than Republicans ended up with after 2010. It’s also a smaller majority than Republicans are likely to end up with when everything is made official this cycle.

Further, if Democrats also lose the US Senate this cycle, which is a high probability, then there will be no way to claim Biden did better than Trump in 2018. Any attempt to do so will come off as asinine. Still, you can expect the White House to go with that line no matter what happens. Democrats are not going to admit they screwed up and change course. Instead, they will do what they always do, which is to double down on their failing political message, insisting that “disinformation” and voters just being too stupid to know better cost them the election.

But what the White House does and what the press does will likely be two different things. I predict that Biden is going under the bus hard in 2023. They can’t allow him to be their next presidential nominee, and they know it. The problem remains that the radicals control the Democratic Party and will simply insist they didn’t go far enough to the left. Get ready for some fireworks.

Biden Says He’s Very Confident in the Election, Because Voting Public Want More High Inflation Policies to Continue (Video)

Yesterday Joe Biden said he is confident in the midterm election next week because the American voters love the high inflation economic policies he has initiated.

BIDEN: “And I find that — that the thing that gives me the most confidence is the fact that the policies we’ve initiated, people care about.  Now, they want more.  They write to me, but I don’t know anybody who’s really opposed to us”…

Biden Brags About Shutting Down Energy Plant After Energy Company Announces 64% Increase in Electricity Rates

During a speech yesterday, Joe Biden bragged about the example of his visit to a Massachusetts coal-fired plant that was forced to close due to regulation.  However, what Biden didn’t mention was the energy provider telling customers to expect a 64% increase in electricity rates effective November 1st.

BIDEN: …”I was just — and so we can accommodate that transition.  I was in Massachusetts about a month ago on the site of the largest old coal plant in America.  Guess what?  It cost them too much money.  They can’t count.  No one is building new coal plants because they can’t rely on it, even if they have all the coal guaranteed for the rest of their existence of the plant.  So it’s going to become a wind generation.

And all they’re doing is — it’s going to save them a hell of a lot of money, and they’re using the same transmission line that transmitted the coal-fired electric on.  We’re going to be shutting these plants down all across America and having wind and solar.”… (link

Massachusetts – […] National Grid said the monthly bill of a typical residential customer using 600 kilowatt-hours of electricity will increase from $179 last winter to about $293 this winter, an increase of about 64%. National Grid said the delivery portion of electric bills will basically remain flat.

“National Grid buys electricity on behalf of its customers from the wholesale power market through a regulatory approved process established 20 years ago. That process has served customers well over the years and provides flexibility for unforeseen events, like limited supplier response to solicitations. But things have fundamentally changed,” Helen Burt, the company’s chief customer officer, said in a statement. “Today, under a sustained, high market price environment, it is challenging to maintain affordable prices. Given that, we think it’s a good time to work with our regulators and other stakeholders to review the process and electricity supply dynamics in the region, with an eye toward reducing price volatility and maintaining a secure, reliable and resilient energy system for the future.”

The company also announced that its natural gas rates are expected to rise on Nov. 1. They said they have a pending proposal with the state Department of Public Utilities that would result in the monthly bill for an average Boston Gas residential heating customer using 115 therms per month of $278, an increase of $50, or 22%, compared to last winter’s rates.

[…] Over the border in New Hampshire, Eversource announced in July that electric rates would be doubling for many residents due to higher natural gas prices fueled in part by the war in Ukraine.

Eversource did announce Wednesday that it has submitted a proposal to the Department of Public Utilities seeking to raise its natural gas rates. They said their average residential customer using 126 therms of gas a month would see an increase of about 38%, or $86 on their natural gas bill over last winter. Those rate increases would take effect Nov. 1.  (read m0re)

Top House Democrat Jumps Off the Deep End Preaching Doom Prior to Election Day

Bonchie reporting for RedState

The days are continuing to fly by as the 2022 election approaches, and Democrats are becoming more and more unhinged. Some, including those in the White House, are already preparing their spin as the probable red wave approaches. Others, such as Jim Clyburn are melting down in other ways.

Clyburn recently appeared on Fox News Digital and jumped off the deep in a last-ditch effort to scare people into voting Democrat. After blaming Republicans for the bizarre attack on Paul Pelosi, an assertion not backed by current evidence, the House Majority Whip dropped this warning.

“This country is on track to repeat what happened in Germany when it was the greatest democracy going, when it elected a chancellor that then co-opted the media,” Clyburn told Fox News Digital on Thursday. “This past president called the press the enemy of the people. That is a bunch of crap. And that is what’s going on in this country.”

Right off the bat, Clyburn manages to completely mangle history in his assertion. Germany was not some thriving democracy one day only to be taken over by Adolf Hitler the next. In fact, Hitler was appointed chancellor in the midst of great internal turmoil in the country. He then used the threat of a civil war to seize further power via the so-called Enabling Act, which essentially gave him dictatorial powers under the guise of an emergency.

Now, let’s think about that for a minute. Which party has spent the last three years insisting that sweeping emergency powers be granted to politicians so they can “save” people from themselves? That would be Clyburn’s party, with the federal government still operating under a state of emergency for a virus that hasn’t been a major factor for most Americans since early 2021. That alone makes the congressman’s hysteria ironic at best.

Clyburn continued by insisting that it’s “different” when Democrats ruthlessly demonize Republicans as being a “threat” to “democracy.” He then downplayed inflation as a concern.

The president’s harsh rhetoric of Trump supporters is entirely different, according to Clyburn, because Biden is directing his attacks at a “philosophy” and not an individual.

When asked why Americans should vote to keep Democrats in control of Congress, despite record-high inflation and rising gas prices, Clyburn downplayed economic concerns.

“I think that people should be voting in their own self-interest. And their self-interest is much more than what you may or may not be paying for gas or a loaf of bread.”

Clyburn went on to suggest that the choice between Democrats and Republicans is whether to vote for democracy or autocracy, echoing President Biden’s Wednesday night speech.

To be clear, when Biden talks about “mega MAGA Republicans,” he’s not talking about philosophy. He is quite literally talking about individual people, a point driven home by the fact that the president has routinely broadened his definition to encompass essentially all GOP party members outside of Liz Cheney and maybe Larry Hogan.

As to the answer on inflation, it’d be hard to find a more tone-deaf response. Democrats have settled on this insane message that Americans should be fine with higher prices and a crushing economy in order to prioritize some nebulous, partisan protection of “democracy.” But all “democracy” means for a Democrat is holding onto power. They don’t actually respect the choice of the voters, otherwise, they wouldn’t gaslighting that the republic is going to end if they aren’t allowed to maintain control. That’s the logic of a tyrant, not someone who actually cares about “democracy.”

This entire schtick is just so tiring. Americans have real problems and they are going to vote based on those problems. They don’t care about yet another lecture on “election denial,” especially when Clyburn’s own party has a long history of dabbling in such. Asinine, offensive comparisons of the United States to Nazi Germany aren’t going to play well either.

4 Kookiest Cases The DOJ Pursued While Letting Pregnancy Center Firebombers Walk Free

Pregnancy clinics have been firebombed and vandalized since Dobbs, yet the DOJ has failed to announce the indictment of a single perpetrator.

It’s been 186 days since someone — whose name we still don’t know — leaked a draft of the Supreme Court’s Dobbs v. Jackson decision overturning Roe v. Wade, setting off dozens of violent attacks on pro-life pregnancy centers as well as churches. Pregnancy clinics were firebombed, threatened, and vandalized, yet the Biden administration’s Justice Department has failed to announce the indictment of a single perpetrator.

The DOJ has used the FACE Act — an unconstitutional abuse of power that the Justice Department has turned into an even more blatantly unconstitutional attack on the First Amendment — to target peaceful pro-life advocates. And even though the FACE Act ostensibly protects pro-life pregnancy clinics, not just abortion facilities, the law enforcement arm of the Biden administration has yet to publicly indict anyone who firebombed a pro-life pregnancy center this year.

Meanwhile, the DOJ has prioritized ridiculous-sounding cases that are reflective of our government’s administrative bloat. Whether you think some of these bizarre cases are worth pursuing at all, they certainly don’t seem to rise to the level of urgency that prosecuting arsonists who terrorize pregnancy clinics would. But for Biden’s politicized DOJ, they do. Here are a few of the kookiest cases the DOJ prosecuted while allowing the perpetrators of violent attacks on pregnancy centers to continue walking free.

WV Man Indicted for Buying a Ginseng Root Plant from Ohio

What’s more important than prosecuting political terrorists? Arresting a man who obtained a plant that was “illegally transported” across state lines, according to Merrick Garland’s DOJ. Was it a deadly, psychoactive plant, at least? Nope, it was ginseng, a plant that some claim “may boost energy, lower blood sugar and cholesterol levels, reduce stress, promote relaxation, treat diabetes, and manage sexual dysfunction in men.”

“American ginseng grows wild in shady, mature Appalachian forests,” local news noted. “It’s been used for hundreds of years by the Cherokee and in Appalachian folk medicine. More recently, demand for American ginseng has shot up with Chinese demand for it in herbal medicine. It can sell for up to $850 a pound.” (Sounds expensive, yes, but note that the well-known spice saffron goes for the equivalent of $2,366 per pound.)

For his alleged crime — which the DOJ announced on Aug. 26, 116 days after the Dobbs leak — 59-year-old Tony Lee Coffman of West Virginia faces a maximum of 30 years in prison if convicted.

DOJ Investigates a Massachusetts School for Not Accommodating Indigenous Mayan Language

In September, four months after the Dobbs leak, the DOJ announced it had investigated and subsequently reached a settlement with New Bedford Public Schools in Massachusetts after the school was accused of not sufficiently accommodating K’iche’, a Mayan language spoken in some areas of Guatemala. The Justice Department settlement forced the school to employ translators and interpreters of K’iche’ as well as “train all staff who communicate with parents” on the K’iche’ language. The DOJ would then spend time and resources to “review and provide feedback” on the school’s “proposed training materials.”

In addition, “The Justice Department will monitor the district’s implementation of the settlement agreement for at least three full school years to ensure that the district complies with its obligations,” the agency press release stated, calling such enforcements a “top priority.”

Ohio Woman Pleads Guilty After Selling Marbled Crayfish

Allison Spaulding, a 46-year-old Ohio resident, faces up to a year in prison and up to a $100,000 fine for selling an invasive species of crayfish. She’s charged under the Lacey Act, a conservation law passed in 1900 and significantly broadened since then.

“The Ohio Division of Wildlife added the marbled crayfish to the injurious aquatic invasive species list for Ohio in January 2020,” the DOJ press release explained. “[C]onduct [like Spaulding’s] will be prosecuted and punished,” emphasized Assistant Attorney General Todd Kim of the Justice Department’s Environment and Natural Resources Division.

There’s likely a compelling reason to limit the sale of invasive species, sure. But this case, for which the aforementioned press release dropped weeks after the Dobbs decision leak, doesn’t seem deserving of priority over hate crimes against pro-lifers.

DOJ Fines Kohl’s, Walmart Millions for Advertising Rayon as Bamboo

On the same day that pro-abortion radicals smashed in the windows of a pregnancy resource center in Portland, Oregon, and graphicly vandalized it, the DOJ announced that retail giants Walmart and Kohl’s would each pay millions after violating the Textile Fiber Products Identification Act. The government accused the companies of “advertising products as made of bamboo when such products were actually made of rayon and did not contain bamboo fibers,” and claiming those products “were environmentally friendly.”

“False environmental claims harm both consumers and honest businesses, and companies that greenwash can expect to pay a price,” warned Samuel Levine, director of the Federal Trade Commission’s Bureau of Consumer Protection.

Sure, companies should be marketing honestly, and perhaps the federal government should play a role in enforcing that. But you know what didn’t get a press release on the DOJ website with a threatening quote? Anything about bringing the attacker of the Portland pregnancy center to justice.

The DOJ’s Priorities Are Clear

It’s true that criminal investigations can take time. But it’s also true that federal law enforcement agencies have prioritized investigations that are politically expedient, even at the expense of pursuing child sex abuse cases, according to FBI whistleblowers. Meanwhile, the DOJ has shown it has little interest in protecting the rights and safety of pro-lifers, as it has abused the FACE Act to go after at least 22 apparently nonviolent pro-life advocates just this year.

The FBI refused to answer The Federalist’s inquiries last month as to whether it had “made any arrests related to the vandalism, firebombing, etc. of dozens of pregnancy resource centers and churches around the country since the leak of the Supreme Court’s Dobbs v. Jackson decision,” and the DOJ failed even to respond.
