Pelosi Says Independent Commission Will Examine Capitol Riot

Pelosi Says Independent Commission Will Examine Capitol Riot

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Monday that Congress will establish an independent, Sept. 11-style commission to look into the deadly insurrection that took place at the U.S. Capitol.

Pelosi said the commission will “investigate and report on the facts and causes relating to the Jan. 6, 2021, domestic terrorist attack upon the United States Capitol Complex … and relating to the interference with the peaceful transfer of power."

In a letter to Democratic colleagues, Pelosi said the House will also put forth supplemental spending to boost security at the Capitol.

After former President Donald Trump’s acquittal at his second Senate impeachment trial, bipartisan support appeared to be growing for an independent commission to examine the deadly insurrection.

Investigations into the riot were already planned, with Senate hearings scheduled later this month in the Senate Rules Committee. Pelosi, D-Calif., asked retired Army Lt. Gen. Russel Honoré to lead an immediate review of the Capitol’s security process.

In her letter Monday, Pelosi said, “It is clear from his findings and from the impeachment trial that we must get to the truth of how this happened.”

She added, “As we prepare for the Commission, it is also clear from General Honoré’s interim reporting that we must put forth a supplemental appropriation to provide for the safety of Members and the security of the Capitol.”

Lawmakers from both parties, speaking on Sunday's news shows, signaled that even more inquiries were likely. The Senate verdict Saturday, with its 57-43 majority falling 10 votes short of the two-thirds needed to convict Trump, hardly put to rest the debate about the Republican former president’s culpability for the Jan. 6 assault.

“There should be a complete investigation about what happened,” said Louisiana Sen. Bill Cassidy, one of seven Republicans who voted to convict Trump. “What was known, who knew it and when they knew, all that, because that builds the basis so this never happens again.”

An independent commission along the lines of the one that investigated the Sept. 11 attacks would probably require legislation to create. That would elevate the investigation a step higher, offering a definitive government-backed accounting of events. Still, such a panel would pose risks of sharpening partisan divisions or overshadowing President Joe Biden's legislative agenda.

“There’s still more evidence that the American people need and deserve to hear and a 9/11 commission is a way to make sure that we secure the Capitol going forward,” said Sen. Chris Coons, D-Del., a Biden ally. “And that we lay bare the record of just how responsible and how abjectly violating of his constitutional oath President Trump really was.”

House prosecutors who argued for Trump's conviction of inciting the riot said Sunday they had proved their case. They also railed against the Senate’s Republican leader, Mitch McConnell, and others who they said were “trying to have it both ways” in finding the former president not guilty but criticizing him at the same time.

A close Trump ally, Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., voted for acquittal but acknowledged that Trump had some culpability for the siege at the Capitol that killed five people, including a police officer, and disrupted lawmakers’ certification of Biden’s White House victory. Graham said he looked forward to campaigning with Trump in the 2022 election, when Republicans hope to regain the congressional majority.

“His behavior after the election was over the top,” Graham said. “We need a 9/11 commission to find out what happened and make sure it never happens again.”

The Senate acquitted Trump of a charge of “incitement of insurrection” after House prosecutors laid out a case that he was an “inciter in chief” who unleashed a mob by stoking a monthslong campaign of spreading debunked conspiracy theories and false violent rhetoric that the 2020 election was stolen from him.

Trump’s lawyers countered that Trump’s words were not intended to incite the violence and that impeachment was nothing but a “witch hunt” designed to prevent him from serving in office again.

People are boycotting Publix because a member of its founding family gave $300,000 to the Trump rally that led to the January 6 Capitol riots

People are boycotting Publix because a member of its founding family gave $300,000 to the Trump rally that led to the January 6 Capitol riots (msn.com)

  • People are boycotting Publix after heiress Julie Jenkins Fancelli was unmasked as a top donor to the January 6 Trump rally.
  • Fancelli is not a Publix employee but is set to inherit from the $8.8 billion founding family's fortune.
  • Fancelli contributed most of the roughly $500,000 total raised for the "Stop the Steal" rally, the WSJ reported.

People are calling for a boycott of Publix after the Wall Street Journal unmasked an heiress to the Southern grocery empire as the top donor to the Trump rally that led to the Capitol riots on January 6.

Julie Jenkins Fancelli, an heiress to the Publix founding family's nearly $9 billion fortune, has previously donated millions to Republican causes and candidates. On January 30, the WSJ reported Fancelli as having contributed $300,000 out of the roughly $500,000 total raised for Trump's now-infamous "Stop the Steal" rally.

Publix has a dedicated fanbase, but Fancelli's contribution to the rally was the last straw for many loyal customers, The Guardian reported Monday. On Monday, the hashtag #BoycottPublix was trending on Twitter, with many users expressing outrage and claiming betrayal over Fancelli's donation.

Fancelli's donation was facilitated by far-right conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, who himself donated $50,000 to the rally that led to the deaths of five people, the Journal reported.

After the riots, corporations raced to cut ties with former president Trump and to end donations to political candidates that supported Trump's attempt to overturn the election.

After the publication of the WSJ article, Publix rapidly distanced itself from Fancelli in a Twitter statement, and said it did not employ her.

Fancelli is still president of the George Jenkins Foundation, Inc., Publix founder George Jenkins's charity, which is not affiliated with the grocery chain. Since posting the statement on January 30, the Publix Twitter account - which previously posted around once a day - has been uncharacteristically silent.

This isn't the first time Publix has courted controversy over its political donations. It came under fire after Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis awarded the chain an exclusive vaccine distribution contract. This followed the Publix PAC donating $100,000 donation to his campaign - a spokeswoman for DeSantis said any implication that the contract was a reward for the donation was "baseless and ridiculous," per the Lakeland Ledger.

Leaders from predominantly Black communities throughout the state also criticized the contract, saying it deprived many Black Floridians of the chance to get vaccinated.

Archbishop Of Kansas City: Joe Biden ‘Should Stop Defining Himself As A Devout Catholic’

Archbishop Of Kansas City: Joe Biden ‘Should Stop Defining Himself As A Devout Catholic’

President Joe Biden has described himself as a “devout Catholic,” a description enthusiastically repeated by his press secretary and the media. Archbishop Joseph Naumann of Kansas City, who also serves as chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ (USCCB) Committee on Pro-Life Activities, however, said that the president’s open support for legalized abortion should put that label to rest.

Speaking with Catholic World Report, Naumann flatly said that Biden “should stop defining himself as a devout Catholic” while acknowledging that his abortion views stand in direct opposition to the Catholic Church.

“Mr. Biden professes to be a devout Catholic, yet is 100% pro-choice on abortion. How do you think America’s bishops ought to respond to this situation?” CWR asked.

“I can tell you how this bishop is responding. The president should stop defining himself as a devout Catholic, and acknowledge that his view on abortion is contrary to Catholic moral teaching. It would be a more honest approach from him to say he disagreed with his Church on this important issue and that he was acting contrary to Church teaching,” Naumann responded. “When he says he is a devout Catholic, we bishops have the responsibility to correct him. Although people have given this president power and authority, he cannot define what it is to be a Catholic and what Catholic moral teaching is.”

“What he is doing now is usurping the role of the bishops and confusing people,” Naumann added. “He’s declaring that he’s Catholic, and is going to force people to support abortion through their tax dollars. The bishops need to correct him, as the president is acting contrary to the Catholic faith.”

According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, abortion is a grave moral evil that cannot be approved or tolerated in any circumstance. In 2019, a Catholic priest in South Carolina reportedly enforced the church’s code of canon law by denying the then-former vice president the sacrament of Holy Communion due to his stance on abortion.

“Sadly, this past Sunday, I had to refuse Holy Communion to former Vice President Joe Biden,” Father Robert E. Morey of Saint Anthony Catholic Church told reporters. “Holy Communion signifies we are one with God, each other, and the Church. Our actions should reflect that. Any public figure who advocates for abortion places himself or herself outside of Church teaching.”

When asked about Morey’s actions, Naumann said that the priest was simply “following his conscience,” adding that Biden should not present himself for Holy Communion for fear of sacrilege.

I believe the president has the responsibility not to present himself for Holy Communion. When Catholics receive the Eucharist, they are acknowledging the Real Presence of Jesus, and also belief in the teachings of the Church,” Naumann said. “President Biden doesn’t believe in the Church’s teachings on the Sanctity of Human Life, and he should not put the priest in the situation where he has to decide whether or not to allow him to receive the Eucharist. He should know that after 78 years as a Catholic.”

When asked if he would ever give Biden Holy Communion, the archbishop said that he probably will never have to make that decision.

“I don’t think I’ll ever be in that situation; I don’t anticipate him coming to Mass in Kansas and coming up to me to receive Communion,” he said. “I do believe that his bishop has a responsibility to dialogue with him about this issue. What he is supporting is a serious evil. I don’t know the disposition of his mind and heart, but his act of supporting legal abortion is wrong.”

Former Philadelphia Archbishop Charles Chaput has argued that Biden should be denied Holy Communion. Cardinal Wilton Gregory of Washington, D.C., has already stated he would give Biden Holy Communion if he presented himself for it.

GOP lawmakers push Nancy Pelosi for removal of Guard protecting D.C.

GOP lawmakers push Nancy Pelosi for removal of Guard protecting D.C. (msn.com)

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told lawmakers Monday that a September 11th-style commission would probe the Capitol riot.

She told her colleagues of the need for the probe in a President's Day letter days after the Senate voted to acquit President Donald Trump of 'incitement of insurrection.'

'It is clear from his findings and from the impeachment trial that we must get to the truth of how this happened,' she wrote.

She said the outside commission was needed 'to protect our security, our security, our security'.

With impeachment now behind the Senate, the only looks back at the riot during the counting of the electoral votes are an internal security review she ordered and federal prosecutors who are rounding up individual rioters, charging some small groups with conspiracy.

House Republicans are pushing Pelosi on the need for a continuing National Guard presence in Washington, D.C more than a month after the riot.

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) says an independent Sept. 11th-style commission will probe the Jan. 6th Capitol riot© Provided by Daily Mail Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) says an independent Sept. 11th-style commission will probe the Jan. 6th Capitol riot

And Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, one of 43 Republican senators voting not to convict Trump, said the riot 'didn't seem like an armed insurrection to me.'

He told WISN radio: 'The group of people that supported Trump, the hundreds of thousands of people who attended those Trump rallies, those are the people that love this country. They never would have done what happened on January 6. That is a group of people that love freedom; that’s a group of people we need to unify and keep on our side.'

Rep. Lisa McClain, a member of the House Armed Services Committee, wants Pelosi to brief lawmakers on the lingering security presence, which has been estimated to cost nearly $500 million

The force rose in size to 26,000 National Guard forces in the days after the January 6 riot and leading up to the inauguration, amid what top homeland officials said was a rise in the threat assessment amid ongoing risks.

A contingent of 5,000 troops is expected to remain until mid-March.

'Myself and several of my colleagues have asked Nancy Pelosi for a briefing as to why do we need these troops here, and we have received zero information, zero,' said McClain in an appearance on Fox & Friends Monday.

She hit Pelosi for failing to provide lawmakers with more information.  She called it 'extremely concerning' that troops could be in the region through the fall.

'Just tell me why. I feel like there's a boogeyman under my bed,' she told the network. 'Just explain to us why we have the National Guard troops,' she said.

'It's amazing to me that she can do this without any disclosure, without any information and just continue to spend money with no briefing,' she said, adding: 'I would rather put those National Guard men and women to help my constituents in my state help with the distribution of the COVID relief vaccination.'

Her complaints came a day after the Senate voted to acquit President Donald Trump of 'incitement of insurrection,' in a trial in which Democratic managers played jarring footage of the MAGA mob rampaging the Capitol. Some members of the mob were even shown talking about doing harm to Pelosi herself, while others were shown chanting 'hang Mike Pence!'

Among the issues raised by House managers was why guard forces were not immediately deployed after the breach. The MAGA rioters breached the Capitol while Congress was meeting to count the electoral votes making Joe Biden president.

Pelosi referenced Capitol security in a President's Day letter to colleagues, where she again called for a probe of the events of Jan. 6. She has implemented other measures, positioning magnetometers outside the House chamber and establishing fines for lawmakers who refuse to go through them, after several GOP members refused to honor the rules.

'Now, as always, security is the order of the day: the security of our country, the security of our Capitol which is the temple of our democracy, and the security of our Members,' Pelosi wrote.

She referenced an internal security review being overseen by retired Gen. Russel Honoré about the riot and its aftermath.

'It is clear from his findings and from the impeachment trial that we must get to the truth of how this happened. To protect our security, our security, our security, our next step will be to establish an outside, independent 9/11-type Commission to 'investigate and report on the facts and causes relating to the January 6, 2021 domestic terrorist attack upon the United States Capitol Complex… and relating to the interference with the peaceful transfer of power, including facts and causes relating to the preparedness and response of the United States Capitol Police and other Federal, State, and local law enforcement in the National Capitol Region,'' she wrote.

'As we prepare for the Commission, it is also clear from General Honoré's interim reporting that we must put forth a supplemental appropriation to provide for the safety of Members and the security of the Capitol,' she said, without putting a price tag on it.

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) also called for the return of Guard forces. 'The National Guard answered the call at a critical time but its mission is now complete. It's time to reopen the Capitol grounds to the American people,' Cotton wrote in an op-ed. 'It's time to send home the troops.'

Texas officials scramble to administer 8,000 COVID vaccines after power loss

Health officials in Texas are scrambling to use more than 8,000 vaccine doses before they expire after the harsh winter storm hitting the state knocked out the power of the deep freezers storing the vaccines.

Two Harris County public health officials told ABC News that their facility that stored the Moderna vaccine lost power early Monday morning and a backup generator also failed. The freezers that kept the vaccine at its containment temperature were among the affected equipment, they said.

In response, county officials put a plan a place to "expedite" allocation of those vaccines to locations where there were large groups of people, and that didn't require too much driving, and with appropriate medical personnel on site to administer the doses.

The locations identified were Ben Taub Hospital, LBJ Hospital, Methodist Hospital, Harris County Jail and Rice University.

The state has been hit with power problems all weekend following a winter storm that dropped several inches of snow and brought temperatures to below freezing. Power outages in the state have impacted at least 3.6 million customers as of 5:30 p.m. ET.

The Harris County Judge was slated to provide more details about the emergency vaccine administrations Monday evening.

Curtis Ellis, a former Trump 2016 campaign advisor and policy director with America First Policies, has passed away.

After a bout with cancer, Ellis passed away on Sunday night. He is survived by his twin brothers Rick and Paul Ellis, as well as his beloved Maxine Albert.

Mr. Ellis, born in 1954, worked throughout his life to guarantee fair treatment for American workers, specifically holding the Chinese Communist Party accountable in recent years for hollowing out American towns and cities by stripping manufacturing jobs away.

Mr. Ellis was one of the most robust voices in opposing America’s membership of the jobs-killing Trans-Pacific Partnership. In many respects, the entire renegotiation of NAFTA – leading to a better deal for American workers – could not have come without Mr. Ellis’s wise counsel, and watchful eye.

More recently he became a fierce fighter on behalf of President Donald J. Trump and often took the Republican Party to task for concerning itself more with markets and money than people and families.

According to his family, some of Mr. Ellis’s final sentiments revolved around the importance of love and family as the heart of the United States of America.

Keen for America First policies to continue to guide the Republican Party, one of his final articles before his passing, states that Trumpism will save America: “Whoever embraces the philosophy of Trumpism owns the future. More will come into the fold. Can we say the same about the Democratic Party’s ideology? Will the Biden coalition survive without the Orange Man glue that held it together? Unlikely.”

Mr. Ellis’s close friend, radio host John Fredricks, wrote on Monday: “Curtis Ellis RIP. Now confirmed by his family Curtis passed at 7:27pm. Curtis and I were joined at the hip, he was a warrior in our movement. I feel like a part of me is gone without him. We love you, Curtis. You fought to your last breath.”

Tributes poured in from friends such as Maura Moynihan – daughter of the late Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan – as well as General Robert Spalding, entrepreneur Greg Autry, and reporter Jack Posobiec.

Friend and fellow CCP hawk Stephen K. Bannon said on his War Room: Pandemic show on Monday morning: “Curtis Ellis had been fighting for the American worker for decades.”

Speaking about Mr. Ellis’s impact on geopolitics, Bannon mentioned that when the Chinese Communist Party is finally toppled, the freedoms of ordinary Chinese people will be owed, in part, to Curtis Ellis.

Joseph Ahearn, who worked with Mr. Ellis at America First Policies, told The National Pulse: “Curtis was a most decent man. He was a patriot, forever loyal to his country and the policies that would advance the cause of our nation. He was a brilliant mind and a true New Yorker. His writings on the complicated relationships involving Sino-American geopolitics always had a persona similar to Breslin or Hamill. He was also a great mentor to those all those he worked with and he will be missed to all those privileged enough to have worked with him. May he rest in peace.”

Mr. Ellis previously served as a special advisor to the Secretary of Labor in the Trump-Pence administration and on the Trump-Pence transition team. He served as founder and executive director of the American Jobs Alliance, an independent non-profit promoting “Buy American and Hire American” policies.

Mr. Ellis had decades of experience in broadcast, print, and online journalism as a reporter, writer, producer, and communications expert. He produced stories for NPR, NBC, HBO, and CBS’s 60 Minutes. He also wrote for publications including the Financial Times, AARP The Magazine, Us Weekly, and TIME magazine. Mr. Ellis served as a radio talk show host; worked as a media liaison for the New York State Senate Central Staff; and held a senior staff position in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Ellis, an inspiration to authors and editors at The National Pulse alike, was a true giant of America First policy, and a hero to us all. He will be missed in his absence, but celebrated through action, every day.

It’s Was One Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Week For The Democrat Party

We witnessed five catastrophes worsen for Democrats,
all in the course of one week.

It has been one tough week for the left.

Impeachment for political theatre was squashed, the Never Trump Lincoln Project further imploded when it was reported its leaders knew about the sexual harassment allegations against co-founder John Weaver, and the petition to recall California Gov. Gavin Newsom D-Calif. reached 1.5 million signatures to likely trigger a special election.

The Donald Trump Charlottesville rhetoric lie was debunked again, and now, Gov. Andrew Cuomo, D-N.Y. is facing bipartisan flack from lawmakers after a Freedom of Information Request (FOIA) request showed as many as 9,000 COVID-19 infected patients were sent to nursing homes under his directive, resulting in one of the nation’s worst COVID scenarios.

Trump Gets Acquitted Again

On Saturday, former President Donald Trump was acquitted in impeachment proceedings for the second time in two years, 57-43 in the Senate. It was the outcome anyone practical knew was coming for weeks—and one that only adds fuel to the left’s endless and compulsive disdain for the 45th president.

While seven Republicans and two independents voted to impeach Trump with the Democrats, they still ended up 10 votes short to achieve the grand number of 67.

Those in favor of impeachment tried to push the unsubstantiated narrative that Trump incited the violence at the Capitol on Jan. 6, regardless of the fact that The New York Times documented people were already rioting 20 minutes before his speech even began.

Impeachment may be over—crossing our fingers unless Democrats in Congress unconstitutionally try yet again—but the left’s perpetual obsession with Trump will not end. The blue check marks on Twitter were having a difficult time coping with the expected news on Saturday.

The Lincoln Project Is Totally Screwed

In January, journalist Ryan Girdusky broke a bombshell story in The American Conservative about Never Trump political action committee (PAC) The Lincoln Project’s co-founder John Weaver. Girdusky talked to dozens of young men who alleged Weaver of sexual harassment and misconduct towards young conservatives and abusing his power. A week later, Weaver resigned and admitted to the mounting allegations.

On Friday, Steve Schmidt, co-founder of The Lincoln Project and a former senior campaign advisor in 2008 to John McCain’s presidential campaign, also resigned. Schmidt claims to have known about Weaver’s misconduct and made his release on Twitter.

“I am resigning my seat on the Lincoln Project board to make room for the appointment of a female board member as the first step to reform and professionalize the Lincoln Project,” Schmidt said.

According to several Lincoln Project employees, leadership at the PAC was briefed on 10 of the allegations against Weaver in June 2020. The organization thus intentionally concealed this information.

Now former employees at The Lincoln Project have demanded immediate release from the non-disclosure agreements signed when Weaver was at the company, to inform the public about more details. Schmidt also came under heavy scrutiny after going on a rampage on Twitter and inappropriately posting screenshots of a direct message conversation between co-founder Jennifer Horn and a reporter from The 19th working on a damning story about the anti-Trump organization.

California Governor Recall Intensifying

The petition to recall California Gov. Gavin Newsom reached 1,509,000 signatures on Friday—the minimum needed to lead to a special election. By March, the recall effort has to have received 12 percent of signatures from Californians, which will then be vetted by the California secretary of state.

The Federalist’s Western Correspondent Tristan Justice and Staff Writer Jordan Davidson hosted Rescue California campaign manager Anne Dunsmore on “The Federalist Radio Hour” on Friday.

This is a citizen movement, this is not a political movement,” Dunsmore said. “We’re pursuing a political process to fix the problem for sure, but this isn’t a Trump versus Biden thing.”

As discussed on the podcast, the intensifying of the recall effort comes after tyrannical lockdowns Newsom instituted in California throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, endlessly shifting goal-posts. Newsom was found hypocritically dining at The French Laundry in December of last year, days after “pulling the emergency brake” on state reopening implementation plans and instituting new lockdown rules.

The Republican National Committee donated $250,000 to the recall efforts, as Newsom looks more and more probable to defend his rule to voters quite soon.

Charlottesville Hoax Gets A Nail in The Coffin

Since the Charlottesville, Va protests in Aug. 2017, Democrats have continually pushed the false narrative that President Trump said there were “fine people” on both sides, referring to white supremacists. This has been debunked many times by non-leftist media sources, and was justly given the national attention it deserves on Saturday during the impeachment trial by lead defense attorney David Schoen.

After the clip that corporate media used to manipulate the public, Trump says the following: “You have people, and I’m not talking about the neo-Nazi’s and white nationalists, because they should be condemned totally, but you had many people in that group other than neo-Nazi’s and white nationalists…”

“Destroying the Charlottesville “fine people” hoax,” Donald Trump Jr. tweeted, “Make sure you watch this all the way through and see if it aligns with what the media told you Trump said. Hint: IT WON’T Today’s media is a disgrace.”

So much for the left’s infatuation with calling Trump a racist because of this purposeful editing botch.

Cuomo Finally Getting The Bipartisan Shame He Deserves

What conservative media outlets have reported on for months is finally being accepted by those on the left. Gov. Andrew Cuomo, D-N.Y., sent as many as 9,000 COVID-19 infected elderly patients back to nursing homes, which led to high rates of deaths in his state among the elderly.

On Friday, Cuomo’s top aide released a statement acknowledging that the office delayed reporting on fatality data because of concerns that it was “going to be used against us.” A court order and New York state attorney general report showed in the last few weeks that the total nursing home fatality rate is one-seventh of all residents living in nursing homes in the state. 15,000 died in total.

In August, President Trump was vocal about Cuomo’s mismanagement of the COVID-19 pandemic. “Now AP estimates that the real Cuomo number of people killed because of his total incompetence is 11,000, not the 6000 that was originally thought!” Trump tweeted.

Nonetheless, leftists sided with Cuomo and assisted with his coverup, all to oppose the bad orange man. Now, though, Democrats are waking up to his incompetence. Several Democratic New York senators signed a joint letter to strip Cuomo of emergency powers and state Sen. Jessica Ramos D-N.Y. sent a separate letter.

“At a time when we need New Yorkers to trust their elected officials the most, the governor and his administration knowingly chose to lie and play politics with New Yorkers’ lives,” Ramos wrote, the same day the New York GOP congressional delegation sent a letter asking the Justice Department to investigate obstruction of justice in Cuomo’s blocking of the nursing home investigation.

“BREAKING: NY GOP Congressional delegation is calling on @TheJusticeDept to open Obstruction of Justice investigation into Cuomo/his admin. They covered-up the true consequences of his nursing home policy & now it’s being reported they withheld info to block a DOJ investigation!” Republican state Rep. Lee Zeldin tweeted.

We witnessed five catastrophes worsen for Democrats, all in the course of one week. One only wonders how bad it will continue to get as the ill results of COVID lockdowns continue to become impossible to ignore.
