BREAKING: McCloskeys Indicted by St. Louis Grand Jury

BREAKING: McCloskeys Indicted by St. Louis Grand Jury

Fox News reports Mark and Patricia McCloskey have been indicted by a grand jury.

The charges related to an incident that occurred in June, when hundreds of Black Lives Matter protesters marched onto a private street the McCloskeys live on. The McCloskeys went outside to confront the protesters. Mark McCloskey had an AR-15 rifle, while Patricia McCloskey had a semiautomatic pistol.

The couple contends that protesters broke through an iron gate, ignored a “No Trespassing” sign, and screamed threats of arson and rape at them, while protest leaders say that the march was peaceful and no threats were made.

Nine of the protesters were cited for trespassing a few weeks back, but the prosecutor dropped those charges despite the fact that video evidence clearly placed the protesters on private property.

The McCloskeys’ attorney, Al Watkins, minced no words in his reaction to the indictment.

“This is b——t,” Watkins told Fox News. “Hate to say it, but the state has a lot of problems with this one. And they transcend not just the evidence, but they actually are remarkably problematic from the standpoint of prosecutorial misconduct.”

Watkins is referring to evidence that the prosecutors may have altered at least one of the two firearms the McCloskeys used that day. It was reportedly an inoperable prop used in a trial, incapable of firing. PJM reported on this back in July.

At the request of Assistant Circuit Attorney Chris Hinckley, crime lab staff members field stripped the handgun and found it had been assembled incorrectly. Specifically, the firing pin spring was put in front of the firing pin, which was backward, and made the gun incapable of firing, according to the documents.

Firearms experts then put the gun back together, per Hinckley’s request, in the correct order and test-fired it, finding that it worked, according to the documents.

Crime lab workers photographed the disassembly and reassembly of the gun, according to the documents.

If all of that is true, it will come out in discovery and it would likely render the case moot. Missouri is a strong castle law state, allowing residents to defend their property with deadly force and with no demand to retreat. The law under which they have presumably been indicted mandates that the weapon used must be capable of rendering deadly force. The handgun, if the crime lab had to reassemble it as described above, was reportedly not capable of firing.

The grand jury heard one side of what happened with regard to that firearm, as the grand jury process does not include any exculpatory evidence or cross-examination, and based on the prosecutor’s word, also indicted them for “tampering with evidence.” Someone evidently tampered with it, the question is who.

This case is far from over. Both Missouri’s governor and attorney general have stated they would overturn it in one way or another. Attorney General Eric Schmitt (R) has moved to drop the charges, and Gov. Mike Parson (R) has promised them a pardon.

There may be no clearer case of partisan prosecution in the United States at the moment. The Missouri castle law is clear. The riots had already turned deadly by the date of the incident, which occurred on their private property. Just a few blocks away from where this incident happened, a protest flashed into a rioting mob that murdered retired police captain David Dorn. The McCloskeys had reason to fear for their lives that day. On the flip side, the protesters were clearly on private property they had no right to be on. Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner, a Soros-funded Democrat, has dropped the charges against the nine protesters who were cited for trespassing while pursuing charges against the McCloskeys.

Incivility, or a March Towards Civil War?

Article by DAVENJ1 in RedState

Incivility, or a March Towards Civil War?

Through rhetoric, actions, and a realignment of politics in America, we are at a point of maximum incivility which has many concerned that we are about to experience a second Civil War.  It will not be bloody military campaigns on battlefields in Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania, but no less a major upheaval in the country.  Recent polling shows that about two-thirds of Americans now believe a civil war is imminent with one-third showing some degree of support for political violence.

On the one side you have a group of people who portray President Trump as an despot up there with Pol Pot, Adolph Hitler and Benito Mussolini.  In reality, Trump is the consummate “outsider” who was elected President in 2016.  It explains his mannerisms, his demeanor, and his unfiltered rhetoric.  His opponents are not “Democrats” or “Republicans” per se, but the establishment in whatever form or its political party affiliation.

Who or what comprises the “Resistance?”  It is the Democrat Party, their willing dupe voters, the NeverTrump Republicans, an entrenched bureaucracy, or “deep state,” and the media.  Put them all together and you achieve a strange parallel existence that creates its own reality, facts be damned.  Trump is characterized as a serial liar (fact checkers actually catalog his “lies”), a huckster (the Emoluments Clause nonsense), or someone committing heinous crimes against humanity.  Many believe that Trump is personally responsible for the greater than 200,000 American deaths attributed to a virus from China (including his opponent, a senile career politician from Delaware).  Many believe the world will imminently implode if we do not rejoin the Paris Climate Accords.  Nancy Pelosi famously declared Trump an “enemy of the state.”

This translates to Hillary Clinton’s bold statement that Joe Biden should not “concede” the election should he lose.  Others have concocted visions of the military forcibly evicting Trump from the White House should Biden win.  With the recent news that Trump tested positive for the Chinese virus, some (many) could not hold back their glee in either “We told you so” scolding at best, or wishes of death at worst.  A man tests positive for Wuhan flu and it took seconds for the Resistance to rediscover the 25th Amendment.

When the haters took to Twitter wishing death upon Trump, they instituted a new policy and removed the offensive tweets.  But, did they permanently or even temporarily ban those tweeters?  Instead, one of their former CEOs fantasized about the end of capitalism and a firing squad.

We are told that “rightwing extremists” are the greatest threat to the Nation while videos of violence, looting, burning, rioting, and murder at the hands of antifa/BLM play in the background.  Remember the infamous “umbrella man?”  He was the alleged white supremacist instigating riots in the wake of George Floyd’s death.  This is the depth of the derangement.

Despite ample evidence that rightwing extremists are not behind the violence and chaos and equally ample evidence the Left is behind it, the media turns a blind eye in their convoluted reality.  They ignore, despite the mounting evidence, that a soft coup was occurring against Trump.  The dirt regarding the Hillary Clinton campaign and the outgoing Obama administration continues to pile up in a huge dung heap, but we are supposed to believe white supremacy is a threat to the Nation?

When incontrovertible fact is portrayed as conspiracy theory, the Left and their willing media allies are doing a great job of laying the seeds of incivility.  Further, the Right correctly complains about the upcoming election having seen the Democrat playbook being put into effect with calls for universal mail-in voting.  Yet, the Brennan Center for Justice- one of those Leftist “experts-” assures us voter fraud is virtually non-existent in America.

Georgetown University recently conducted a survey that found that 83% of respondents now believe that what was once politically verboten is now acceptable.  This means that violence or threats of violence is now on the table.   Whether Republican or Democrat, another survey found that roughly one-third of respondents now believe that political violence would be justified if their side lost the election.

To buttress those findings, as has been mentioned on these pages and others, gun sales are at an all-time high.  These figures are spurred by record first-time gun and ammunition buyers.  One supposes that both sides are loading up for an eventual conflict.  And should that conflict occur, who is to stop it?  Suppose Trump wins, Biden heeds Clinton’s advice, and a protracted election occurs after which Trump is declared a winner.  Will the Democrats and their foot soldiers like BLM and antifa silently slink away into the night?  Or will the scenes from Portland over 100 days play out in every major Democrat-run city or enclave?  Will these Democrats call out the police force to quell the violence?  Their record thus far suggests not.

To this writer, the sporadic violence in places like Portland, Seattle, and Chicago, among others where supposed police brutality and the narrative that white cops are somehow hunting down black suspects was the impetus for the violence is small potatoes compared to the upcoming violence over the results of this election.  It will not stop with rhetoric and speeches and calls for calm.

It will require some broken heads and, sadly, some deaths.  If Kenosha proved anything, it proved that no community is immune to the violence seen in major metropolitan cities.  The death count will not approximate that of the 19th century Civil War, but there will be death nonetheless.  The question is how many deaths and how many billions in dollars in damages will accumulate before an uneasy cease fire is declared.   Regardless, the hatred, animosity, and entrenchment will remain long after Donald Trump exits the scene, be it 2021 or 2025.

Trump drew a bold line in the sand between what made this Nation great (Western civilization and all it engendered culminating in “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”) and what the Left aspires to for this Nation.  We can only hope that the death count is relatively low, or that less of “our’s” are taken than of “their’s.”  I think that is the point at which we have arrived.

Trump leads by conquering fear. Joe Biden? Not so much

Article by Ethel C. Fenig

Trump leads by conquering fear. Joe Biden? Not so much

Franklin D. Roosevelt (D), who bravely declared at his first inaugural address as the 32nd president during the depths of the Depression in 1933, "We have nothing to fear but fear itself," spoke from experience, as 12 years earlier, he was stricken with polio, leaving him partially paralyzed.

Echoing his predecessor, President Donald J. Trump (R), another state of New York native, walked out of Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, D.C. yesterday after treatment for the Wuhan coronavirus, COVID-19, declaring:

I will be leaving the great Walter Reed Medical Center today at 6:30 P.M. Feeling really good! Don't be afraid of Covid. Don't let it dominate your life. We have developed, under the Trump Administration, some really great drugs & knowledge. I feel better than I did 20 years ago!

Once back in the White House, he added:

I stood out front, I led. Nobody that's a leader would not do what I did. I know there's a risk, there's a danger, but that's ok. Now I'm better, and maybe I'm immune, I don't know. But don't let it dominate your lives. Get out there, be careful.

Contrast their attitude to that of Trump's Democratic opponent, Joe Biden, who usually places a lid, the arcane term reporters use when a politician is done traveling for the day — 1:02 P.M. Friday; 9:20 A.M. Thursday; 9:22 A.M. Tuesday, and 8:34 A.M. Saturday.  Biden's early turn-ins provoked the Twitter set, professionally nervous Democrats (OK, bed-wetters) and, notably, Donald Trump to scratch their heads or rain down ridicule.

Although Biden does occasionally venture forth on the campaign trail, he more often hunkers down in his campaign bunker, where he tries to connect with his potential voters by reciting words seemingly prepared by others with little input from him.  And when he is campaign out in the fresh air, face to face with people, and needs to speak spontaneously when questioned by usually friendly reporters, his wife saves him, gently pulling him away.

Hmm, now who could better confront an enemy, be it a pandemic or North Korea or Hamas or China or Antifa, all of which do not follow rules, whether from the Commission on Presidential Debates or the U.N. or the Wuhan coronavirus or the U.S. government?  A president who has faced fear but doesn't allow it to conquer him or one whose wife has to protect him from friendly reporters?

Now go vote.  Fearlessly but carefully.

Who targeted the president?

Anyone remember this threat? Still think they were "kidding"?

Article by Sally Zelikovsky in The American Thinker

Who targeted the president?

I always trust my gut. Litigators and trial attorneys tend to do that.  When things don't make sense or add up but you don't have a smoking gun, you start nosing around with questioning and investigating to see if your hunch pans out.

Obviously, I don't have any proof that the recent COVID-19 infections of POTUS and FLOTUS, several Republican senators, and people working on his campaign and in his administration are truly random events or something planned, but it doesn't pass the "random cluster of infections" smell test.  Come on, admit it.  You are all thinking it, too.  I'm sure that, like me, you spent the weekend texting friends about your suspicions.

The virus appears to have targeted Republicans only and left Democrats unscathed.  Democrats are trying to characterize this as a Rose Garden or debate super-spreader — even though plenty of Democrats and Biden-supporters were at the debate and likely interacted with Republicans after the Amy Coney Barrett ceremony.  They argue that, as avid wearers of the mask, they are shielded from Republicans bearing COVID.  But if masks were ironclad, we'd all be immune.  People can still contract the disease in spite of masks, hand-washing, and social distancing — which are only preventive measures that minimize risk.  It is odd that in a town as small as Washington, D.C., only Republicans took the hit.

The timing is a second factor.  Key Republicans fell ill after the Barrett announcement, the debate, and Comey's flaccid testimony, and now we are full-blown into October — the final leg of the campaign.  We have Radcliffe's damning evidence that Obama, Comey, and Brennan were aware of Hillary Clinton's intent to frame Trump of colluding with Russia, and suddenly, Andy McCabe cannot do a Zoom appearance in the Senate under the pretext of fearing for his family's safety from contracting COVID.  Schumer, on cue, demands the cancelation of the Barrett hearings — all or part of which can be done remotely to prevent COVID spread.  Moreover, Hidin' Biden comes out of seclusion and hops on more planes in the last few days, flying to Michigan and Florida, than he has flown for most of September, when he made a only few local appearances in Delaware and Pennsylvania, flew to Cleveland for the debate, called lids on half the days in September, and did a post-debate lame train tour where he interacted with few supporters.

Yet Donald Trump, who, up until contracting the WuFlu, was doing back-to-back rallies in battleground states with overwhelming support from adoring audiences in the thousands, is suddenly relegated to Biden-style videos, seclusion, and waving from cars.  This is like being in a cage for someone who is as gregarious as Trump, who loves interacting with Americans.  One would think that Biden, at his age and with his vulnerabilities, would be even more cautious and reluctant to travel and interact with voters in the last weeks of the campaign — especially after a potentially close encounter with the virus during the debates and seeing what it did to the president.  And yet, as soon as Trump is sidelined, Biden is hopping on planes without a care in the world.

Finally, there is the fact that the most protected man in the universe, who has insisted on serving and interacting with the people despite the pandemic, refused to hover in an isolated bunker and managed to escape infection for seven months, suddenly gets a direct hit...again, in the final weeks of his campaign, interrupting the one thing the Biden campaign cannot generate: a succession of popular rallies.  We know that the transmission could have resulted from a lapse in procedure; after all, those who protect and interact with the president are only human.  But in an administration where enemies are constantly undermining the president, it doesn't strain an iota of credulity to wonder if those same nefarious forces didn't weaponize the virus and directly expose the president to it or use someone like Hope Hicks as a COVID bullet.

They've tried to impeach and remove him, force him to resign, discredit him, undermine his accomplishments, embarrass and ridicule him; they've wished him dead umpteen times; they've relentlessly threatened his life; and they've been clear they don't care about his family or his health.  Why not use the virus to their advantage?  While his security detail is adept at thwarting plots involving cars, guns, planes, bombs, and other visible weapons, there are myriad ways a virus can find its way to our president and other administration officials.  After seven months, it did — a month before the election, as he was ramping up his successful airport hangar rallies.  It's too perfect to be mere happenstance.

With a little contact tracing and sleuthing, I wouldn't be surprised if we find out that this was an arrow in someone's quiver and a doozy of an October surprise.

U.S. Attorney Responsible for Obama Unmasking Investigation Abruptly Resigns…

Well, this is interesting….  very interesting…

U.S. Attorney John Bash, from the Western District of Texas, was given the responsibility by AG Barr of looking into the illegal unmasking by Obama-era officials in July of this year.  Not only the illegal unmasking of General Flynn, but more extensive unmasking.  Today Bash announced his abrupt resignation.  “Abrupt” because he announced today, and he leaves on Friday. However, he does say he informed Barr last month:

SAN ANTONIO, Tex. – U.S. Attorney John F. Bash announced today that he will resign from the Department of Justice on Friday, October 9, 2020, at 11:59pm. U.S. Attorney Bash issued the following statement:

This Friday—eight years to the day after I first joined the Department of Justice—I will step down as United States Attorney for the Western District of Texas.

Last month I accepted an offer for a position in the private sector and informed the Attorney General of my decision. I tendered formal letters of resignation to both the President and the Attorney General this morning.

I am grateful to the President, Senator John Cornyn, Senator Ted Cruz, and the other members of the United States Senate for the opportunity to serve the people of Texas. I am also grateful to  former Counsel to the President Donald F. McGahn II, who gave me steadfast support throughout the nomination and confirmation process, and to former Solicitor General Donald B. Verrilli, Jr., for first bringing me into the Department in 2012. And I am honored that during my tenure as U.S. Attorney, the Attorney General has seen fit to entrust me with significant responsibilities and to appoint me to his Advisory Committee.

[…] The Attorney General has elected to appoint Gregg Sofer to succeed me as U.S. Attorney. Gregg is an inspired choice. He is a veteran Department of Justice attorney, serving first in the National Security Division at Main Justice and then for over a decade as a national-security specialist in our Austin office. In the latter role, he built a reputation as a dogged and tremendously effective prosecutor.

In 2018, I selected Gregg to serve as our office’s Criminal Division Chief, where he designed and implemented significant improvements to our operations, oversaw thousands of prosecutions, and provided me with invaluable advice on a range of important issues and cases. Since early this year, he has served in Washington, D.C., as Counselor to the Attorney General. He will make an excellent U.S. Attorney.

Attorney General William Barr offered the following statement:

I offer my gratitude to John Bash for his service as United States Attorney for the Western District of Texas. Since 2017, John has successfully led one of the largest U.S. Attorney’s Offices in the country. John has made significant contributions to the Department of Justice, including his service on the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee. I appreciate his service to our nation and to the Justice Department, and I wish him the very best.  (link)

John Bash is one of five known U.S.A.O.’s who were tasked to provide supplemental support to the John Durham probe.  Specifically Bash’s objective originated after the extensive unmasking of Michael Flynn was discovered; however, that objective was expanded in both scope and time as explained by AG Bill Barr on July 28, 2020.

At minute 01:40 of this congressional questioning by representative Jim Jordan, Bill Barr provides an outline of what John Bash’s role and responsibility was as assigned.

It would be highly unusual for a U.S. attorney to resign in the middle of a very important aspect of his investigative responsibilities as assigned by the Attorney General.

Something about this is not passing the sniff test at all…

The American People Need To Know What Joe Biden Knows About His Family’s Profits From China

Disturbing questions emerge from a joint Senate report on the Biden family’s dealings with America’s greatest adversary.

Given the grave threat posed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), especially near an election and in an era in which fears of foreign influence are at an all-time high, one might think revelations about the family of Democratic nominee Joe Biden cashing in on Communist China while he was vice president might be a “big [expletive] deal,” in the cellar-dwelling candidate’s words.

Yet the media and political class have completely blacked out these newly released facts. This was on display during the first presidential debate when Biden and moderator Chris Wallace called a “lid” on it.

Biden Family Secrets Exposed

The joint Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs and Finance Committee report on Hunter Biden’s business dealings with foreign powers, and their relation to U.S. government policy during the Obama-Biden administration, states the following:

Hunter Biden has extensive connections to Chinese businesses and Chinese foreign nationals that are linked to the Communist government. Those contacts bore financial fruit when his father was vice president and after he left office.

These ties went beyond the former vice president’s son. The report adds: “The records acquired by the Committees show consistent, significant and extensive financial connections among and between Hunter Biden, James Biden, Sara Biden … and Chinese nationals connected to the Communist regime and PLA as well as other foreign nationals with questionable backgrounds.”

The joint investigation details a stunning array of transactions that “paint a mosaic of the complex corporate structure that existed between entities linked to Hunter Biden, his associates, and his family and Chinese companies linked to the Communist government.” Many of the transactions were flagged for “potential financial criminal activity.” Such activity enriched Hunter Biden to the tune of millions of dollars.

As vice president of the United States, Joe Biden had an absolute obligation to know what his family members were up to, disclose it, and end it. This is not just because of the potential for corruption, but the myriad ways his family’s acts could imperil American national security. Indeed, as the report concludes, the dealings between the Biden family and China don’t merely “raise conflicts of interest concerns, they raise criminal financial, counterintelligence and extortion concerns.”

A Free Pass from Democrats and the Media

The unseemly reality of Hunter Biden enriching himself through positions for which he appears to lack any qualification other than his family name is the least of the issues here. Far more significant is that the loved ones of a high-ranking politician had deep financial interests with foreign adversaries, presenting a nightmare scenario in terms of the potential for exploitation.

If Joe Biden were seeking a security clearance, most everything in the Senate committee report and more would have to be reported. Presumably, these disclosures would imperil his odds of receiving one.

Since he is a candidate, it is up to the American people to do this vetting. This is why it was particularly troublesome that during the first presidential debate, he got a free pass on these issues. Twice, Hunter Biden’s connections with adversarial powers came up. The first time, the former vice president ignored President Donald Trump’s assertion about the unique investment opportunities Hunter exploited, seemingly based on his father’s dealings with Beijing.

The second time, the exchange went like this:

Trump: Once you became vice president he made a fortune in Ukraine, in China, in Moscow, and various other places.

Biden: That is not true.

Trump: He made a fortune, and he didn’t have a job. … Why was he given tens of millions of dollars?

Biden: He wasn’t given tens of millions of dollars. [crosstalk] It was all discredited.

Wallace: We’ve already been through this. I think the American people would rather hear about more substantial subjects. Well, as the moderator, sir, I’m going to make a judgment call here.

Trump: I know, but when somebody gets three and a half million dollars from the mayor of Moscow.

Biden: That is not true. That report is totally discredited.

Trump: Why did he get it?

Biden: Mitt Romney on that committee said it wasn’t worth taxpayers’ money. That report was written for political reasons.

Wallace: I’d like to talk about climate change.

Biden: So would I.

Does anything better depict the gap between Washington and real America than this back-and-forth?

Biden’s Record with China

Joe Biden cannot be allowed to shrug this off with a “C’mon man,” as he has in the past with respect to his son’s Ukrainian dalliances and their relation to the Obama-Biden administration’s Ukraine policy, the troubling centerpiece of the joint Senate committee report.

He has to be straight with the American people about what he knew about his family’s China business, when he knew it, what he did about it, and how it might have affected his duties and responsibilities. This is all especially important since Biden was the man in charge of the Obama administration’s China portfolio. If Biden truly was in the dark regarding these links, that is disturbing. If he knowingly concealed them, all the more so.

Over the course of his time in Washington, Biden has helped guide American foreign policy at the highest levels, first as chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and then as vice president. What accentuates the disturbing nature of these revelations about his family is the fact that throughout his career, Biden cheered China’s rise.

Joe Biden supported granting China permanent normal trade relations and the communist country’s accession to the World Trade Organization. Over and over, he served as an avatar of the political establishment’s integrationist and accommodationist approach to China, helping turn it into a global superpower. All along, he claimed this was good for America, even saying it wouldn’t threaten the livelihoods of American workers.

Biden helped make Communist China strong — again, while his family directly profited from it when he was in office — cultivating a relationship with Xi Jinping. The Obama-Biden administration was remarkably soft on China over its most grievous provocations, whether in terms of the catastrophic Office of Personnel Management hack, the militarization of the South China Sea, or its flouting of U.S. capital market regulations with impunity, gaining the imprimatur of the administration after lobbying Biden to ink a memorandum of understanding effectively normalizing its cheating.

Where Are the Russia Collusion-Mongers?

Meanwhile, even today, with Biden forced to toughen his rhetoric about China for the first time in his life — largely thanks to an opponent in Trump, who has engaged in an unprecedented effort to comprehensively confront the Chinese Communist Party — Biden still can only manage to call China a “serious competitor.” He dubs Russia, by contrast, an “opponent.” This is laughable given how much bigger, stronger, richer, and more dangerous is the former.

This raises another question: Where are the Russiagate collusion-mongers on Biden and China? Leave aside that the joint Senate report asserts that Hunter Biden received a $3.5 million wire from the wife of Moscow’s former mayor, who had allegedly received illegal construction contracts from her husband. Also ignore for a moment that Hunter allegedly sent thousands of dollars to Ukrainian and Russian citizens involved in the sex industry, some transactions of which might have been associated with an “Eastern European prostitution or human trafficking ring.” Why are the collusion-mongers silent about China?

By their silence and inaction, the collusion-mongers tell us they never actually cared about foreign influence, or at very best only cared about it as a political weapon. It was never about the merits. It was always about power. Part of that power concerned maintaining the China status quo from which the political establishment had so richly profited, and which the Trump administration has since upended.

We now know the extent to which the Biden family was a beneficiary of that China status quo. So once again, we must ask: What did Joe Biden know, and when did he know it?

CIA Director Gina Haspel Banking On Trump Loss To Keep Russiagate Documents Hidden

Haspel is hoping Trump loses his re-election bid so she can run out the clock on Russiagate document declassifications, multiple intelligence community officials told The Federalist.

Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director Gina Haspel is personally blocking the declassification and release of key Russiagate documents in the hopes that President Donald Trump will lose his re-election bid, multiple senior U.S. officials told The Federalist. The officials said Haspel, who served under former CIA Director John Brennan as the spy agency’s station chief in London in 2016 and 2017, is concerned that the declassification and release of documents detailing what the CIA was doing during the 2016 election and the 2017 transition could embarrass the CIA and potentially even implicate Haspel herself.

“Haspel and [FBI Director Christopher] Wray both want Trump to lose, because it’s the only chance they have of keeping their jobs,” one senior intelligence official told The Federalist. “They’re banking on Biden winning and keeping them where they are.”

The Federalist first reported last week that Haspel had emerged as the primary roadblock to declassification of materials showing that the U.S. intelligence community knew prior to the 2016 election that the allegations that Trump colluded with Russia were themselves the products of Russian disinformation. Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe released a declassified summary last week that disclosed that Russian intelligence officials were aware that former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton had planned to smear Trump as a treasonous Russian asset to distract from the Clinton’s e-mail scandal. As part of her operation, Clinton hired a foreign agent who was himself working for a sanctioned Russian oligarch to spread unverified smears against Trump. One of the key sources of collusion allegations peddled by that foreign agent via the now-infamous Steele dossier was suspected by FBI authorities of being a Russian spy.

“It’s far more important for Haspel to block any embarrassment of herself or her agency than to have full transparency and accountability,” another senior intelligence official told The Federalist. “She’s just hoping she can get past the election so the documents will never come out.”

“This is not a source protection issue, it’s an embarrassment issue,” the intelligence official added.

Officials also accused Haspel of repeatedly lying to the White House about the status of documents that are in the pipeline for declassification and release. These officials said that Haspel has consistently provided baseless excuses for her failure to produce certain documents, falsely claiming that she can’t physically locate documents, or that her agency doesn’t technically own them and therefore cannot release them.

“Haspel has repeatedly lied to the president about the status of documents to be declassified,” one intelligence community source said. “She will claim they don’t know where they are, or which agency technically owns them, and then we’ll find out she had them the entire time and just didn’t want them to see the light of day.”

“The frustration with Haspel is reaching nuclear levels,” one official said, noting that White House and top U.S. intelligence community officials have been taken aback by the ferocity of Haspel’s refusal to release documents.

The Federalist reached out to the CIA Public Affairs office for comment, but did not receive a response prior to publication.

Meet the Biden-Supporting General Deploying Military Grade Information Warfare Tools Against Trump Supporters

General Stanley McChrystal delighted the left and the war-loving neoconservatives today by joining his name to the ranks of military-industrial complex “national security” professionals supporting Joe Biden.

This development should not be surprising. While Trump enjoys overwhelming support from the military rank and file, the brass has been largely corrupted for some time. As the President himself pointed out, many of the Generals and national security bigwigs have their fortunes tied to the continuation of precisely the never-ending war policies that Trump successfully ran against in 2016.

General Stanley McChrystal is a certified military brass swamp creature deep in the bowels of the military-industrial complex. His specific business ventures are disturbing, even by swamp standards. According to a Fox News report, General McChrystal was involved in a venture that aimed to redeploy information warfare tools–originally designed to combat ISIS–against Trump supporters:

An anti-Trump Democratic-aligned political action committee advised by retired Army Gen. Stanley McChrystal is planning to deploy an information warfare tool that reportedly received initial funding from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the Pentagon’s secretive research arm — transforming technology originally envisioned as a way to fight ISIS propaganda into a campaign platform to benefit Joe Biden.

The Washington Post first reported that the initiative, called Defeat Disinfo, will utilize “artificial intelligence and network analysis to map discussion of the president’s claims on social media,” and then attempt to “intervene” by “identifying the most popular counter-narratives and boosting them through a network of more than 3.4 million influencers across the country — in some cases paying users with large followings to take sides against the president.”

Social media guru Curtis Hougland is heading up Defeat Disinfo, and he said he received the funding from DARPA when his work was “part of an effort to combat extremism overseas.”

After this article was published, the Post updated its reporting to clarify that Hougland was “using open-source technology initially incubated with funding from DARPA.” The Post originally reported: “The initiative is run by Curtis Hougland, who received initial funding for the technology from DARPA, the Pentagon’s research arm, as part of an effort to combat extremism overseas.”

Hougland explained in an interview with the Post that he was unhappy that top social media accounts often supported Trump, and had effectively defended the president in recent days from claims that he had suggested Americans inject themselves with disinfectant. [Fox News]

So here we have a former General involved in an effort to censor the President of the United States and his supporters, using information warfare technology originally intended to fight ISIS terrorists. This is neither the first, nor will it be the last such example of a former national security officer using tools designed to fight America’s adversaries against Trump-supporting American citizens.

Infamously biased anti-Trump Tech behemoth Google sponsors a project known as Jigsaw whose main purpose is to develop Artificial Intelligence capabilities to censor so-called “hate speech” online. Of course, hate speech is weakly defined, and almost always ends up casting a wide net. Inevitably, those censored tend to be Trump supporters concerned with law and order, fighting open borders, and ending America’s wars. The man who runs Jigsaw, Jared Cohen, is a veteran of Hillary Clinton’s State Department. Cohen made a name for himself in developing digital strategies to advance American national security objectives.

Jigsaw, a technology incubator within Alphabet, says it has developed a new tool for web publishers to identify toxic comments that can undermine a civil exchange of ideas. Starting Thursday, publishers can start applying for access to use Jigsaw’s software, called Perspective, without charge.

“We have more information and more articles than any other time in history, and yet the toxicity of the conversations that follow those articles are driving people away from the conversation,” said Jared Cohen, president of Jigsaw, formerly known as Google Ideas. [CNBC]

“Toxic” is, of course, a term of art used by censorious globalists to justify shutting down speech they don’t like.

Discussion in comments sections often devolves into an offensive and hateful exchange unless it is carefully managed. This has prompted some publishers to turn off the comments section on articles because moderating them can be time-consuming and difficult.

With machine learning, a computer system is programmed to learn from repetition. It takes in training data — essentially, example after example — until it is familiar enough to anticipate with a high degree of confidence the proper response for a given situation.

In this instance, Jigsaw had a team review hundreds of thousands of comments to identify the types of comments that might deter people from a conversation. Based on that data, Perspective provided a score from zero to 100 on how similar the new comments are to the comments identified as toxic. [CNBC]

In case there was any doubt about the political bias of this technology, the first use-case should offer a pretty clear hint:

Jigsaw worked with The New York Times and Wikipedia to develop Perspective. The Times’s comments section is managed by a team of 14 moderators who manually review nearly every comment. [CNBC]

And in case there was any doubt about Jared Cohen’s national security bona fides, the following passage should offer similar clarity:

Cohen’s directorate appeared to cross over from public relations and “corporate responsibility” work into active corporate intervention in foreign affairs at a level that is normally reserved for states. Jared Cohen could be wryly named Google’s “director of regime change.” According to the emails, he was trying to plant his fingerprints on some of the major historical events in the contemporary Middle East. He could be placed in Egypt during the revolution, meeting with Wael Ghonim, the Google employee whose arrest and imprisonment hours later would make him a PR-friendly symbol of the uprising in the Western press. Meetings had been planned in Palestine and Turkey, both of which—claimed Stratfor emails—were killed by the senior Google leadership as too risky. Only a few months before he met with me, Cohen was planning a trip to the edge of Iran in Azerbaijan to “engage the Iranian communities closer to the border,” as part of Google Ideas’ project on “repressive societies.” [Wikileaks]

So, in General McChrystal we have a former General in Afghanistan involved in a firm deploying information warfare tools designed to fight ISIS against Trump supporters. In Jared Cohen, former Hillary State Department official turned Google’s “director of regime change,” we have a man deploying military grade AI censorship tools to police internet conversation, with politically predicable biases.

These two troubling cases must be understood within the context of the undeniable corruption of large swaths of America’s national security bureaucracy–from the CIA, to the FBI, to the DOJ, to other top military brass. Over the past four years we have seen how each institution has been corrupted and repurposed–not to advance American national security interests, but to suppress expressions of populism and nationalism domestically. Ironically, while the national security establishment likes to accuse its adversaries of using weapons “against their own people,” increasingly corrupt elements of the national security state are doing just that—repurposing our vast security apparatus to suppress political expression and activity at home.

Perhaps the most disturbing example of this is the recent claim by the FBI and Department of Homeland Security that “white supremacy” is the biggest national security threat. True white supremacy is virtually non-existent in the United States, and any efforts to “combat” white supremacy simply amount to code-language intended to justify the use of the security apparatus to intimidate and silence conservatives, populists, and nationalists.

The case of McChrystal, his fellow general Mattis, and similarly corrupted individuals in the broader national security apparatus force us to acknowledge difficult truths. Just as Americans had to learn the hard way that corporate America has become fully corrupt with woke ideology, so must they now confront the reality that the same disease has thoroughly infiltrated institutions that Americans traditionally thought of as patriotic and conservative. This infiltration includes the police forces, the FBI, and even the Military, and it goes all the way to the top. As this process accelerates, we run the risk of having our country’s formidable security apparatus increasingly abused for political purposes–specifically to persecute and suppress conservatives.

Such disturbing developments remind us of the stakes of the broader political struggle in which we are engaged as citizens and patriots. We must come to realize that every single institution in the country has come under the control of forces that are utterly hostile to the interests of the American people. To acknowledge this reality with a sober and clear eye is not to give in to demoralization or defeatism. To the contrary, only with a clear eye as to the nature and scope of the challenge we face will we be able to successfully rise to a moment that calls for the very best in us to save our great, and greatly imperiled nation.
